Bhansali is a fan of Raj Kapoor cinema and this movie was somewhat a tribute to Raj Kapoor cinema with Ranbir was mesmerisingly charming

Incidentally, Raj Kapoor also did a movie "Chhaliya" inspired by the basic plot of White Nights juxtaposed with the partition narrative. That movie solidified the quintessential Indian tramp image of Raj Kapoor, so adapting White Nights for Ranbir 's debut and the multiple Raj Kapoor references were more than conscious decisions. Also, Ranbir's full name is Ranbir Raj Kapoor.

True never watched OSO but saawariya always intrigued me. i was 3 when it came out, since god knows when, i strongly since maybe 2020 now wanted to watch saawariya. i just remember the visuals as some fever dream as i watched it as a child and my parents obv dont appreciate it as much so they are surprised why am i so besotted by this movie mann i even payed the extra 100 rupee rent on prime

@28:45 Most of the sex workers looks older because in White Nights the character was so lonely and sad that from his point of view everyone was looking very old except for the girl who was waiting for her lover but in the movie Ranbir's character was made happy go lucky so it kinda looks off

I saw both Saawariya and Om Shanti Om first day in this order. I liked Saawariya but haven't seen since. I didn't likes OSO and haven't seen that since as well. I bought the world of Saawariya, that was not an issue for me. Whereas in Om Shanti Om I just couldn't get over the fact (for the rest of movie) that SRK's father hits earlier SRK by accident and didn't remember his face and never thought his son is same as earlier SRK. That was just too stupid.

I understand that people love the ostensible OTT beauty in Bhansali’s movies when it’s so eye catching and on the nose waiting to hammer you at a high pitch but i just can’t respect it. Yes the shiny thing will catch your eye and enthrall you but it’s definitely making you stupider as a viewer when it’s soo cultivated, highly constructed and created perfection that’s even beyond fantasy but equally lacking in showing the depth that it’s trying to claim. I imagine i’ll like Saawariya more than the others because I really liked Khamoshi but i’ve been terribly underwhelmed by every other SLB film, and especially Black which was copied frame by frame from an old black and white movie. He just fucks historical periods because he doesn’t care about history unless it’s beautiful, so i’d rather he didn’t set his stories is any real time period - he should be barred frankly. But even more egregiously he just fails to show mutual love that’s real and instead portrays an imagined reflection of love in his tragedy-loving imagination - unless it’s unrequited
