This was shaping up to be an epic B-side to the 2006 USC-Texas title game at the Rose Bowl, but for McCoy’s injury. This was also pretty much the end of Texas football as a power

@@markrobertson2196No doubt in my mind Texas would have won this game. Texas almost came all the way back after trailing 24-6 with an inexperienced true freshman QB Garrett Gilbert on the biggest stage. Alabama ended up winning because of freshman mistakes resulting in turnovers. Texas had the better team that year in my opinion. That injury at the start changed the whole game. And if Colt plays I think it would’ve gone entirely different. But yea sadly we’ll never know and can only speculate.

@@chuyozuna2398now the script has flipped. In 2023 these 2 teams would meet on a Saturday night in Tuscaloosa and Texas would beat them marking Texas to be back once we saw what they did the rest of the year and this would be where you can clearly see alabama dynasty was over. I been saying it was over since October 2021 when they was scraping by teams they would normally have beat by halftime and now to top it all off over 100 percent confirming that the dynasty was over Nick Saban announced retirement on January 10, 2024 2 days after the Michigan vs Washington national title game and 9 days after Jim Harbaugh’s Michigan beat them in the rose bowl CFP semifinal. Exactly 2 years ago from the day Saban retired (January 10, 2022) I was at my grandpa’s apartment in Sunnyvale, California with family watching Georgia beat bama for Kirby smart’s first natty and that was also the first time since losing to South Carolina in 2010 that bama lost a game to a SEC East opponent and the way it looked I always stood true to my statement saying that night is the night that bama died and as we know now it’s true.

What this showed is that Colt McCoy was a frail waif of a QB, and that following kick off TX would play VERY DIRTY... that launch off the feet to hit the Bama return man trying to make a catch was dirty as hell... that was a cheap shot on a defenseless player looking for the ball... they did that KNOWING they could take a hard dirty hit and maybe steal a possession. Shows the total lack of class and character of the TX coaching team... Glad they lost playing that way.

Not having Gilbert ready to go. Hell, I'll go so far as to say if Colt was really that dude, he would've played through the pain. I don't think Vince Young would've allowed Mack to take him out of the Natty and he faced a far better defense than Colt.

There were so many things Texas did wrong in this game. Mack should've taken a knee before halftime you're down 17-6. Knowing you can move the ball considering all the points they left on the field in the first half. Then @3:08 in the fourth quarter NO ONE picked up Eryk Andrews blitzing off the corner causing that fumble. But, what happened, happened starting the Alabama run. Maybe now Texas is on the road back but I remain super skeptical of Sark and those players as they don't seem to have that mental fortitude. I think they win tomorrow but stub their toes a couple times in epic fashion. This particular game was tremendous but has a huge "what if" factor to it.

Mack Brown's poor coaching killed them in this game. Let's be real here. The score is deceiving as hell. Texas was driving down 24-21. It took a late up-picked-up blitz. Which I blame on Mack. To beat them. The Texas offense was rolling "no pun" in the second half. This game should've ended with Texas on top 28-24. To the victor goes the spoils. I'm just glad I was there to watch Texas kick Alabama's ass last season.
