========= 1648 (English) LYRICS ==========
While Europe speak of peace, all other battles cease
There’s a man who aims for more than he can reach
Blood,
All over
Prague
On fire
Burn
All of Bohemia set ablaze
Stand on their own
The road to the city has been blocked
Denied
(They’re denied)
To enter the gates
Though they tried
(Though they tried)
When Prague was called to arms
They fought them on the bridge
Their freedom was at stake
Stand and fight, the city is burning
Königsmarck lost, stopped him at Karluv Most.
Stained by blood, their brothers die side by side
Did what they could
Died where they stood
Their city has been besieged, all hell on Prague unleashed
As the cannons crush the walls, the city shakes
Fear
Is spreading
Hate
Increasing
Death
And pain is all that Sweden brought
Rise and strike back
The walls of the city has been breached
Reclaimed
(They’re reclaimed)
On that very night
Unsustained
(Unsustained)
They did it on their own
They fought them on the bridge
Their freedom was at stake
Unconquered city on Vltavas shore
Start of the conflict and end of the war
Unconquered city on Vltavas shore
Is protected by its people
And thirty years ago the war begun
It has returned to where it started
========= Historic Fact ==========
Europe had grown tired of war by the summer of 1648, and after much deliberation, peace talks in Westphalia had reached their final stages, but not everyone agreed. The last major clash of the Thirty Years’ War happened in Prague, where it all began. Sweden took the opportunity for a last assault on Bohemia to loot Prague Castle.

This song always gives me chills. Imagine being around in the Thirty Years War (or really any war before the invention of the automobile). The average person likely had not traveled five miles away from their home, living and dying there for an entire lifetime. It was all you knew, and as far as you were concerned, the world revolved around that one place. Now imagine your village or city was being besieged, even worse if you were losing... that was your entire world crumbling before you. I imagine the resolve to fight like hell would have been much more vicious, because if it fell? You had nowhere to go. No other home, probably no family outside, didn't know what was beyond the woods and fields. Everything was there.

Guys, maybe it sounds banal, but thanks. In this difficult time for the whole world you continue to delight your fans with absolutely amazing songs. With you , the world understand that there's no light and dark side in any conflict. You show, that each side has it's own heroes and it's just great. From Russia with love! P. S. Sorry for mistakes P. P. S. Please, make song about 28 panfilovites, this WW2 story is really interesting.

It is amazing! As always. I hope someday you will make a song about Hungarian history. It was one of the most influental country when it was austro-hungarian empire. And now it's unknown and forgotten. I love your music and I wish you the best! ☺️

True that there have been many battles fought in Hungary...Liegnitz, Mohi...all of those sieges where they turned back Mongol or Ottoman (and some where they didn't..)...Attila, of course, though I understand some Hungarians revere him and some revile him. Titusz Dugovics who threw himself and his enemy off the ramparts to save the fortress...Count Miklós Zrínyi IV's story is a Sabaton kind of one, I think. Lots of stories of bravery in the face of overwhelming odds to protect their communities and country.

I think, that banners in borders of the scene should represented country - "Lion from the North", "Carolus Rex", "Carolinear's prayer", "Ruina Imperialy" - Swedish banner (Torn for last), "1648" - Bohemian banner, "Gott mind unst" - Prussian, "killing ground" - Saxonian, "Poltava" - Russian, "Long live the king" - Norwegian. And "Lifetime of war" - no picture, just corridor full of banners for EWERY state, that fighting in that war (all Europe, except Montenegro)

Interesting turn of events how the same people that defied the emperor for seeing him as an oppressor decided at the end he was the lesser of two evils and end up being seen as bringer of peace and stability

What I respect Sabaton for is its historical truthfulness. Still, they are a Swedish band and I think it is still difficult for them (as well as other people who love their country) to write songs in which Sweden is either put on the bad side, like in "killing ground" or simply loses, like in "Poltava" or in "1648".
