I'm impressed, you are one of the few you know their facts about this great ship. You remember seeing the torpedo plane, that's what really did the Bismarck in. The torpedo destroyed the ruder so the ship couldn't escape. In the end it was the crew that sank the ship and of the 2,000 crew members only 115 survived, very sad.

There was actually a german U-Boot (U 556) present at the final battle of the Bismark, but it didn't have any torpedos or enough fuel left, so it couldn't do anything and the crew had to watch the Bismark sink. It was also noticed by the british ships, so they had to stop saving the crew of the Bismark.
@cytorakdemon
@cytorakdemon 2 жыл бұрын
Something extra tragic about that. When U-556 was christened, it didn't have a band, so Bismarck lent their's. Captain of U-556 said in response to this generosity, he would make it his personal mission to assist the Bismarck whenever possible. When Bismarck was being attacked and scuttled, U-556 could only watch and record what was happening due to being out of torpedoes.

Thank you to World of Warships for creating the amazing battle scene for this video. All the ships and fighting were created using CGI, then used Live Action actors placed into the scene. This is just one example of some of World of Warship's amazing battle scenes they can make. BTW- World of Warships is a free to play warship game. You can see more of the Bismarck in their mini documentary too called Naval Legends. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bXycc32eodljsNE

I'm such a huge fan of history, especially WW2 naval history, probably a bit too much - I have built and painted over 200 1/700 scale model ships so yeah, a bit of an obsession, lol. There was a sister ship, the Tirpitz. Beside of that... the Bismark was the highest advanced battleship at that time. The Torpedo Bomber of the UK were from the first World War. Imagine attacking such a ship with nostalgic planes. And having success. It's like winning the first Iraq war from the perspective from the Iraq.

maybe this is already written down there: the bismarck was send to the north atlantic to attack convoys. the bismarck was together with a ship called something like prince idk...they had been followed by the hood(and maybe another ship), the everything to the british marine, kind of a legend to the british ppl...so then it finally came to a fire exchange and the bismarck one-shotted the hood...then this message spreaded like a fire in GB and so the britains send everything they had got to revenge the hood....they had also an aircraft carrier like in the video with planes from WW I. i dont really know exactly but they had the ability to fly that low so they cant get hit...one of them could hit the bismarck with a torpedo at the rudder, so the bismarck, on its way to the german-occupied french for repairings, couldnt steer anymore and was driving targetless.. the bismarck was still able to not sink...but i think the germans didnt want to get the bismarck into enemys hands, so the germans helped the bismarck to sink...sexism fun fact: a ship is everytime female named....on the bismarck the german called her "he", with the reason that a ship that strong could never be a female...thats also why he sings for example "his guns have gone silent at last"

A little late, but a fun side fact nonetheless. When the Bismarck and battlecruiser Prinz Eugen were engaged by british battleship H.M.S. Prince of Wales and battlecruiser H.M.S. Hood, flagship of the Royal Navy, Admiral Lütjens, who was in command of the Flotilla, didn't want to return fire but move on because he prioritised getting to the open Atlantic. Captain Lindemann, commander of the Bismarck, held fire at first, but then radio'd "Ich lass mir doch nicht mein Schiff unter'm Arsch wegschießen" ('I will not have my ship shot out from under my ass') and returned fire against the Admiral's direct orders, sinking H.M.S. Hood just a few minutes later, which caused basically the whole Royal Navy to go on a hunt for Bismarck.

Unexpected was that HMS Prince of Wales who participated on hunt on Bismarck was sunk the same way like Bismarck. Destroyed in Pacific by couple of torpedoes launched by japanese planes.

Surprisingly Bismarck was highly advanced for it’s time where it utilized an automated fire control system where all of the guns can be synced to a range finder, or maned individually, however the systems weren’t reliable unfortunately, and as to how it lost to pre ww1 biplanes was in part due to the faulty fire and control systems, the lack of experience against enemy aircraft whilst on a boat from the crew and their ammunition, where unlike most planes which were made from wood or aluminum, the sopwith camel biplane was made out of, wood and canvas, where due to the Germans lack of airburst rounds, which are set to explode via a timer, which works well when you have the range, ie five seconds for half a mile and so on and the shell would explode sending shrapnel everywhere, however it only has a blast radius of a few meters and by that time the plane would be out of the blast zone, the other alternative was impact ammunition where when the tip of a round hits a solid object with sufficient force would cause the round to explode, however due to the biplanes being made out of canvas ie the stuff used for painting, the impact round simply flew straight through the wings and out the other side and unless it was a direct hit to the engine then they were close to useless, leaving the poor guys trying to shoot down the planes with auto cannons like the twenty and forty mm cannons and any other small arms on board, as for the final fight, that lasted over eight hours, surviving several torpedo hits and constant fire from two battleships, four cruisers and two destroyers if I’m correct, all the while the Bismarck still floated, and after eight hours of being a non stop shooting target either two torpedoes destroyed her or the crew scuttled their own ship

if you want more cinematic videos with Sabaton try "Christmas truce" (well known event) or "to hell and back" this deals with PTSD and drug addiction in a horrifying realistic manner, still, sadly very much reality for many soldiers returning from battle, it has been through history. perhaps an animation? the animated STORY video of "Night witches" or "No bullets fly", Night witches is heroic and powerful females while No bullets fly is heroic and about humanity and chivalry during war. for a live performance, I would like to see your reaction to "en livstid i krig" live from Göteborg Sweden, it is in Swedish but there are subtitles (not perfect but they get the message across).

The actual film footage of some of the battle is amazing. I don't know how far away the ship was that had someone filming, but those cannon's are so loud, it's unreal. These guy's have really gotten me back into history. Especially WW1 and WW2 history. I've even bought a couple of coffee table book's. One for each war. The WW1 book is really detailed. I don't actually remember learning anything about WW1 when I was in school. It was mostly WW2 and Vietnam. My dad, he was an MP in the U.S. Army, and was stationed at Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin from '63-'65,and he served on President Kennedy's honor guard when he came to Berlin and gave his famous speech.

Bismarck and Tirpitz were not the only Battleships that were Beasts Made Of Steel. Yamato and Musashi of the Imperial Japanese Navy were larger and powerful then Bismarck and Tirpitz. Bismarck was over 50,000 tons with 15 inch Naval Guns, Yamato was over 72,000 tons with 18.1 inch Naval Guns.
@fjoergyn
@fjoergyn 9 ай бұрын
here just a bit more information The "Bismarck" , and his sister ship "Tirpitz", were the 2 largest battleships ever built in Europe (250 meters long, 36 meters wide, and displacing more than 50.000 tones) and they were the pride of the kriegsmarine (Germany's militari navy) during Ww2. The "Bismarck" set sail in May 1941 to reach the Atlantic and destroy merchant convoys, but he was intercepted by the British and during a brief fight, destroyed the former flagship of the British fleet and pride of the Royal Navy, the worldwide famous battlecruiser "Hood", by penetrating her armor and detonating her aft main ammunition magazine and killing all 1400 members of her crew except for 3 men, and heavily damaged the battleship "Prince of Wales". This enraged the prime minister Winston Churcil who ordered all his ships in the Atlantic to abandon their operations and destroy the Bismarck. In total more than 40 ships participated to the hunt, making it the biggest naval hunt in history. Meanwhile Bismarck, who had received a hit during the first battle, was leaking fuel and was trying to reach the French port of Saint Nazaire, in occupied France, for repair. After 3 days of playing cat and mouse with the British, Bismarck was attacked by airplanes launched from the aircraft carrier "Ark Royal" and hit by a torpedo in the stern, which jammed his rudders during evasive manuvers, meaning that he was forced to sail in circles, just a few miles away from reaching air cover. In the end battleships "King George V" and "Rodney", along side the heavy cruisers "Norfolk" and "Dorsedshire" fought the already doomed battleship and, during the following 90 minutes completely destroyed it. However, despite having all his guns destroyed, and having received more than 400 hits (out of the 2800 shells that the British had fired at it) his armor was still mostly intact and the ship was still afloat. So the british launched another 4 torpedoes and he disappeared beneath the waves. After inspection of the wreck however it had been discovered that the torpedoes did no significant damage thanks to the battleship's excellent armor, and that Bismarck had been scuttled by his crew (although it should be noted that many historians believe that it would have eventually sunk due to the damage received). Of the 2200 men that served on it, only 114 survived. Copy, props to @willghezzi Small funfact, the 105mm Air defense on the Bismarck was too fast to hit the slow airplanes, was too modern on those days.

One of my grandfathers (he joined the Wehrmacht in 1938 and fought in Poland, France and the Soviet Union) said years after the war, when my uncle learned about the war at school and asked questions: "You can't imagine the time. before Hitler came, Germany was on the ground, many politicians at home and abroad had ruined our country, no elected government lasted more than a few months and it often looked like revulution. When Hitler came, a lot of people thought it couldn't get any worse than it already is.... they were all wrong".

Awesome tribute to the Bismark, What you may not know is that the Bismark could not be sunk by the British, the armour was too thick. Unable to steer or fire and being bombarded with shells for nearly a week. The order was given to scuttle the Bismark as not to be taken by the Allies, and later proven by examining the wreck and how the front guns were dislodged.

The truth is that most engagements in the Atlantic tend to be ignored or overshadowed by their pacific counterparts mostly because it has more to do with the Americans and that the Atlantic theater doesn’t get talked about especially from our side of the UK, and it is rather pleasant to see someone outside of Britain who knows a bit about the Atlantic theater or the European theater in general where the Americans tend to get mixed up as either the British or Americans, the British gets sidelined pretty heavily, such as in Africa where British, Canadian, Australian, Indian and African troops were sent there to deal with the nazis, all the while the Australians and Indians deal with the Japanese and I bet my pension that most people would never know what force H is or what it was and if you do know then my hat goes off to you.

Edit: Some songs I’d love see you react to - a soldier of 3 armies - Rourkes Drift - Resist and bite - Carolus Rex - night witches - no bullets fly - to hell and back (about Audie Murphy) - the last stand - winged hussars - seven pillars of wisdom - 82nd all the way - fields of verdun - dreadnought - the valley of death - soldier of heaven - the attack of the dead men - Versailles Every one of these songs is 🔥 as is usual for Sabaton, and the history behind them is amazing. I understand that the "history wrote from the winers" but Bismark sinked by the germans saylors cause Ludendorfs orders was that the ship should not fell in the hand of the allies The way kriegsmarine build Bismark was mainly for defence (44% of his weight) and it was absolutely imposible to sink it even if the french and british navy try together all day . The bad lack for Bismark was that at the battle near to the Denmark strait with the HMS Hood and the Prince of Wales the PoW was hit the Bismark in the rotor so Bismark start losing speed and oil and Lutiens (the commander) has to choose between return in Norway from the same way he come to the Denmark strait or to go in occupied France for repair and Lutiens choose France so when the Bismark was on the run from basicly the hall royal navy , near France the Force H was found them (because of the biplanes of the aircraft carrier Ark Royal) and the biplanes start to attack till the rest of the unit come . Bismark lose almost all of his oil , has no power , has no rotor long ago , so 2nd commander Ludendorf (possibly because Lutiens was dead after the battle with force H) give the order to tho those that couldnt survive to start sinking the ship and same time to those who could survive to abadoned Oh!...Also a small "hint" , Bismark was the biggest battleship in the WW2 in the european side , but Japan build more huge battleships to beat us navy in the Pasific battles , and also the Bismark is (i think) the first ship called as male cause most of the ships till that time called as females Great reaction , nice groove you have , keep going

Another generally overlooked fact about the Bismarck class battleship is that's essentially an enlarged, more powerfull Von der Tann class *battlecruiser* . I know the line between the battlecruiser and the fast battleship had been blurring ever since the very fast superdreadnoughts of the late antebellum but the Bismarck had, especially in it's armour scheme (not thickness mind) and architecture as well as gun distribution, elements of the late war Von der Tann BCs. Also note that Germany while it had impressive ships as individual vessels and a pretty dangerous doctrine for an enlarged "cruiser war" of commerce raiding the Kriegsmarine never even remotely had the capacity to face the Royal Navy in a standup fight... cue the submarine campaign... Best regards Raoul G. Kunz

9:30 The pun of the "Iron and blood" is connected to the fact that Otto von Bismarck´s motto was "Iron and blood", as he built up the nation after the French-Prussian war on this basis. So the fact that those people were sinking on board of Bismarck meant that they were both literally and figuratively sinking on "iron and blood".

There were 2 ships like the Bismark. Fortunately, the sister ship was never used. After the Bismark sank, the sister ship was upgraded and was therefore stronger than the Bismak. The sister ship was sunk in a fiort with aerial bombs. Luckily the meletärs only saw the money that the ship cost. Even the Bismark was difficult to defeat, now you have to imagine that both ships would have fought side by side. cruel thought and disgusting.

The Bismarck is my favorite real life ship. It wasn't as large as the Yamato(the largest battleship ever built) but it was the most technologically advanced vessel afloat at the time. Not to mention the toughest. The brits threw everything they had at it for 4 and a half hours and couldn't sink it lol

Hi Evy, I am german and in my late fifties, so I know the story behind the song but I'm very impressed with your level of knowledge, I will not say for your age, because many older people think the younger generation knows nothing, but for you being not german. Maybe I can pique your interest in some bands that are also history related (not to the level of Sabaton off course), if you do not already know them. 1. Ad Infinitum Their first Album Chapter I is about the french revolution, the second Chapter II: Legacy is about Vlad the Impaler aka Vlad Tepes aka Vlad Dracula. 2. Serenity Their leader/singer/songwriter is in fact a history professor at a uni in austria so he writes a lot about historical persons and events. He seings also in a band called warkings for who Melissa Bonny, the lead singer and songwriter of Ad Infitum did some guest vocals, so maybe that was the inspiration for Melissa to come up with her ideas. 3. Ex Libris Dutch prog metal Their latest Album Ann is a concept album about three different historical Anns. First is Ann Boleyn, the second is Anastasia Romanova and the third is Anne Frank. Greetings from Germany

Again nice insights and reaction! The (Kriegs)marine is in my opinion one of the most noble armed forces that are out there in any time of history, but the dritte Reich should have focused more on the Luftwaffe to this time (and other parts to not sabotage themselves so to say) and the outcome would have been quite a different one. That said, what is your favourite EvyTheFox: Bismarck or Yamato?

Oeef hard one! The japanese had sone very clever strategies during the war! The Battle of Okinama (US attacking Japan on the island of Okinama) is one of the most spectacular stories during the war imo. The Yamato is in numbers more impressive, but the Bismarck stories hit closer to home

Great reaction! Don't apologize for stopping the video though... people who don't like that shouldn't watch reaction videos, they should just stick with the original one. One minor thing, you missed (like almost all reactors to this clip) the fact that the skipper of the vessel Sabaton went on, still had the compass with the coordinates where the Bismarck sank. You see in the clip the captain engraving them into a compass, thus tying in the skipper of this vessel into the story

Sabaton is an interesting band. Not often that metal, or any band for that matter, have such a concern for history. That plus their music makes them one of the Very few Metal bands I have any interest in. The other's basically being Rammstein and Schwarze Engel. Another WW2 Kriegsmariene themed video of theirs you migth find interesting is "Wolfpack". Pretty obvious what that's about. Youre reactions are amognst the most entertaining on the tube. For a whole host of reasons but your knowledge and inquiring mind as chief amongst them.

Some minor corrections from my side: the biggest rival of the Kriegsmarine was the British Royal Navy, not the French, even in WW1. And the Reichsmarine was the interwar marine of Germany, in WW1 it was called Kaiserliche Marine. ^^

@tigeriussvarne177

@@EvyTheFox Sorry, but from all I know and researched, the french navy was never a consern, because: if you conquere the ports and mainland, you dont have to take care of the navy. But if you want to invade the UK, you need to control at least the British Channel. That's why the UK sank parts of the French Navy after Germany took over and Vichy-France was formed. I like to talk about history way to much, and your reactions are so much fun, thank you. ^^

Interesting facts 57ships,8 submarines, 2876shells and 6 torpedoes and bismarck was still floating untill admiral lutjens or lindeman gave order to sink it because they were shooting at them all the time an he said that he would rather see bismarck on the bottom of ocean than in hand of british, so it was battleship which royal navy was not able to sink.
