If you decide to take a deep dive into sabaton, I can promise you WILL end up in tears. Always let the video play out as theres always something at the end, if you react to "Christmas Truce", do the official music video for a very special guest vocal at the end, for "no bullets fly", it's the animated story again lots of surprises at the end of that one. "Christmas truce" (official music video) is a must as someone suggested. Just make sure you listen through the credits. You will hear a voice singing which I think you will enjoy. And also "En livstid i krig" live from Gothenburg. Use the subtitles because it is in swedish. It´s amazing "1916" (official music video) It´s a Motörhead cover. "Swedish Pagans" , live from Wacken open air 2019. The use both stages at the same time. One with former members and one with current members. And Tina Guo on cello

I wpuld also suggest comparing Sabaton's version of Christmas truce to the version by Tommy Johansson. Joakim sings it like he is IN the action and is angry that tomorrow he will have to fight against his friends, whilst Tommy's version is more a lamentation from a survivor of at least one moment when the soldiers fighting turned into brothers. And of course, as Tommy is the lead guitarist of Sabaton he kind of covered himself, to to say.

In the start of the video, You see an older Man in an office with many pictures of Bismarck and personal medals. This Man has the Compass. He takes Sabaton to the spot the compass shows and what they witness is the Ghosts of the saga of the Bismarck story. [Through the mist a ship is taking form.] The first battle is Bismarck vs Prince of Wales, a British Battleship. Their also was another British ship that you don't see. The HMS Hood. A Battlecruiser as big and powerful as Bismarck but with less armor. Bismarck and her escort, the heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen blow the Hood to pieces and Prince of Wales is Badly damaged. The Last battle is TWO British Battleships, HMS King George the 5th and HMS Rodney along with two British Heavy Cruisers HMS Norfolk and HMS Dorsetshire. The Scene were the Man is engraving the Coordinance in the compass, He is Bismarck's Captain. Ernst Lindemann. Later when mortally wounded he gives that compass to the sailor and the sailor abandons ship. he is one of only 110 Men picked up by the British out of a crew of over 2,000. Then you see that old Man looking at the compass again. HE is that sailor who survived. In real life, his Father was the last surviving crew member of the KM Bismarck. Always research a Sabaton video BEFORE watching it. It really helps.

Sabaton, the Metal community’s resident war historians. They are a magnificent live band largely because their songs promote a ton of audience participation. If you continue to dive into their music I guarantee you will laugh, cry and be inspired. Songs like “Christmas Truce” and “Price of a Mile” really bring up the strong emotional response. They also do an absolutely amazing cover of Motorhead’s “1916” the video for which includes a great little tribute to Lemmy.

You're the first reactor I have seen (and I have seen a LOT) to pick up on the fob watch and the connection between the fishing boat captain and the cabin boy. Also, can say from 1st hand experience, Sabaton is at their best watched live in person, but that energy doesn't come across on live recordings at all. You're better off looking at the official music videos to get the history kick too.

Excellent reaction. Sabaton music videos have high production values and are usually shot on location, not in the studio using a green screen ("Soldier of Heaven" is the exception since the logistic of shooting on top of the Alps is insane). All of their songs are historically accurate and tell tales of the sacrifice, honor, and courage of individuals and groups overcoming the cauldron of war. Sabaton live performance have insane production, immense energy, and incredible crowd interaction. If you are interested in history, I highly recommend the Sabaton History Channel, where the backstory behind the song is discussed by Indy Neidell, a historian and documentarian. BTW, Joakim has no vocal training and never intended to be a singer. When Sabaton was formed he was the keyboardist and brought several songs he had written for the band to consider, and they asked him to sing them so they could get an idea of the melodies. Sabaton did not have a lead singer, and they asked him if he would sing 'until they find one.' As Joakim said, "They never did. Lazy bastards."

Bismarck and the efforts the Royal Navy went to make sure it was sunk boggles the mind. Especially that it was a canvas-covered Bi-Plane that dropped the fatal torpedo that damaged its rudder. If they'd not succeeded, the course of the war could have been very different. And none of those planes got shot down either!

Sabaton definitely has some excellent music videos. "Christmas Truce" and "No Bullets Fly"(the animated story video) will leave you in tears. "Lady Of The Dark" is another really good one(again, the animated story video would be best). "To Hell And Back" and "Uprising" are also fantastic songs, but I would recommend finding videos of them performing those songs live because the crowd REALLY gets into them. :) Oh, and if you want the spiritual successor to "Bismark", check out "Dreadnought"

The watch case was given to the young survivor from the Bismarck as you saw , the captain of the boat they were playing on was that young survivor , that was the reference they were making . The captain of the vessel the band was playing was the son of a Bismarck survivor, his father was supposed to be in that role but he sadly passed away before shooting started. Captain Ernst Lindemann was loved by his crew and he was to one scripting the coordinates on the pocket watch/compass.

Yes, Most of their songs are about Military History. They tell the story without taking sides. Formed in 1999, lead singer Joakim Broden and bassist Par Sundstrom are the primary songwriters, nad the 2 original members left. Chris Rorland and Tommy Johansson on guityar, and Drummer Hannes van Dahl (Floor Jansen's husband) complete the current lineup. A 2019 stand alone single, the video was made in conjunction with Wargaming, the company that makes the World of Warships game. Joakim rolls his "R's", what is sounding like a Scottish brogue to you. I think he does that to make English pronunciations easier for him. Btw, he pronounces his name more like (Yo-a-kim). You can hear him say it on the band's KZbin history channel, either he or Par co-host most episodes with Indy Neidell. The name painted on the boat the band went out in is Primo Victoria. That's the name of their first album released, the title track is about D-Day at Normandy. The captain of that boat is the son of the last survivor of the Bismarck. 114 survived from a crew of over 2200. Bismarck had sunk the British battlecruiser HMS Hood, only 3 survived of almost 1500. About Joakim's rolling "R's", he grow up in a part of sweden that has rolling "R's", so I guess its just easier when you sing/talk in a foreign language to go back to ones roots of pronunciation. Great reaction! I must welcome you to this rabbit hole of Sabaton. You have quite a jorney to take on. I already see that you have several suggestions in the comments so I leave that. You were absolutely right about the compass and the inscription. But one interesting thing about it is that the older man in the beginning is the real son to the sailor that survived and brought the compass from Bismarck. It should have been the sailor himself to shoot the video but he sadly died shortly from starting the filming, so his son took the part instead. Sabaton is very meticulous with the details. The video itself is a collaboration between Sabaton and the game developer World of warships, and it is sure top notch! Seeing forward to see you react to more Sabaton!

The difference between most power metal bands and Sabaton, besides their songs mainly being about war/history, is that Joakim's voice. Unlike most power metal singers who have a higher/saprano or mezzo-suprano range, Joakim is more of a baritone range. Don't get me wrong, his voice is as amazing as the best of them, but it's unique.

I found Sabaton a year and a half ago and fell in love. Joakim's voice is incredible, Tommy sings and rocks that guitar, Par Chris kill in and Hannes is amazing on the drums. Their songs are all about people of moments in military history and are just moving. Their songs get you either fist pumping or teary eyed. 1916 cover, Christmas Truce, Night Witches, Red Baron, Last Stand, Resist and Bite, The Attack of the Dead Men, Stormtroopers, Soldier of Heaven and so many more. Very important they highlighted the torpedo bomber in the video. That hit on the stern of the Bismarck sealed its fate since it jammed the rudder during a turn and left it circling instead of able to run to friendly forces.

One of my favourite Sabaton songs. Love the "iron and blood" reference to Bismarck's famous speech in there, too. Plus the video is of course amazing, which is a general truth for Sabaton. They are also one of the greatest live bands I've ever seen. My recommendation in that regard: *Primo Victoria* live from Woodstock 2012 in Poland. Absolutely mindblowing show in front of a huge crowd.

Sabaton is one of my absolute favourite bands of all time! I've seen them live 9 times and counting and there is only one band I've seen live that beats their live show and that is Rammstein! The "compass" links the Sabaton to finding Bismarck. Noted that when Bismarck is sinking, the main character (young marine) with the "compass" in his hand was successfully rescued by British sailors. At the same time, the old man who steers the Sabaton boat is also holding the compass, this suggests either he is related to the "young marine" or he is actually the "young marine" who brought Sabaton to the sinking position of Bismarck, the mighty battleship he had once served.

The band published a "making of" to this video. ALong with showing the effects and sets, it also shows how they filmed the boat-stage. Yes, out at sea, but also with two trailing boats pointing garden hoses at the band.

For me, the "fun" part of the story of the _Bismarck_ is the Polish destroyer that had escaped to Britain, that was operating with the Royal navy. She would dash into gun range and bang off a few rounds then dash back out, all the while transmitting _"I am a Pole!"_ in the clear over the radio.

2:15 I absolutely love this shot from the video. It is, honestly, my favorite moment in the whole thing. 5:51 Singing is one of the most effective ways of communicating information humans have. There is a reason so many mnemonics involve rhyming, and song is just rhyme set to music. Sabaton were formed in Sweden by Par Sundstrom (bass) and Joakim Broden (vocals) in the late 90's ... Broden is a keyboard player and initially joined in that capacity and apparently Sundstrom like his vocal abilities, so he made Broden the lead singer. Sabaton recorded their 1st album 'Metalizer' in 2002... but had to switch labels and recorded & released their debut album 'Primo victoria' in 2005... The theme of the band was historical battles from that point onwards. 'Metalizer' would finally be released in 2007 after the album 'Attero dominatus' in 2006. Sabaton's 4th album 'The art of war' in 2008 became a fan fave, based on the writings of Sun Tzu. Sabaton's popularity in Europe on tour kept growing as the 5th album 'Coat of arms' was released in late 2009. In 2012, Sabaton endured a split as early band members split, leaving Broden and Sundstrom as the only original members... Chris Rorland and Thobbe Englund (guitars) joined around this time and released the 6th album 'Carolus Rex'... Sabaton eventually came to North America to tour -they would focus on the American markets for the next decade as their popularity kept rising. Hannes Van Dahl (drums) joined in 2013... People now know him as the husband of Nightwish vocalist Floor Jansen. By 2014, the active touring across the world paid off as Sabaton's 7th album 'Heroes' was released... it charted at #99 in the US... #59 in the UK... #3 in Germany... #1 in Sweden. Sabaton played Japan for the first time in 2015. Their record sales were purely fueled by their touring and internet promotion w/ no mainstream media promotion. 'The last stand' (2016) would chart at #63 in the US... #17 in UK... #43 in Canada... The tour would be Sabaton's biggest to date, but guitarist Thobbe Englund would leave in 2016 after their 8th album... Sabaton is amazing! I saw them in concert a year ago in Pittsburgh and wow what a show! When they come back to the US you need to see them. "Last Stand", Soldier of Heaven", "1916", Gott Mit Uns", "Primo Victoria" , "Attack of the Dead Men", "Great War" (among many others) are all awseome.

lead guitarist you saw in the guitar solo is Tommy Johansson who also have his own band named Majestica, Tommy also have a KZbin channel where he makes Covers of other songs, He have an amazing voice as well....also, the drummer in Sabaton is married to Floor Jansen who is Nightwish lol

At one point you see an American made PBY airplane which is historical. After the sinking of the HMS Hood the Bismark escaped detection until a PBY given to Great Britain via Lend Lease spotted it. Little known is the fact it was flown by an AMERICAN giving lessons to the British on how to fly it when it was sent on a long distance flight to search.

Swedes tend to roll their Rs when speaking a lot as well. Maybe not that much in the capital Stockholm. But there is a lot of rolling Rs in Gothenburg and the further north in Sweden you go. Sabaton is from the middle part of Sweden and that's where you can start to hear it in their accent.

so with the bismark in the video you see several major things. bismark shooting and sinking the Hood. then later that biplane dropping the torpedo hitting the rudder causing the bismark unable to steer. then the ship firing torpedos at point blank range after the rest of the fleet destroying pretty much everything on deck.

In the video, Bismarck doesn't shoot and sinking the HMS Hood.(Clearly a King George V. Class, and the only thing sinking in this video is Bismarck)

just from what I remember about the Bismarck, it was sent out to cause chaos and destruction on British convoys in the atlantic. The British navy sent some battle cruisers (fast poorly armoured ww1 ships with big guns) one being the biggest the Hood, the Bismarck destroyed it with in a couple of shots hitting the ammo and killing all but 3 sailors. Unable to catch the Bismarcks speed the British were allowed to fly through Irish territory from the Ark Royal to torpedo the Bismarck and managed to hit the propeller causing it to turn in circles and the slower British navy managed to converge and sink it

The Bismark sunk the Hood from so far away that the Hood's crew watched their fate coming for half an hour before they were hit.

Technically none of these torps did enough damage to sink the Bismarck. There is pretty good video footage of the torpedo hits, they didn't managed to get thru the inner armor belt. But it doesn't matter bc the Bismarck's superstructure and armament was just a piece of scrab metal

On a side note the Bismarks Captain Ernst Lindemann actually referred to the ship as a He which is unusual as the convention had always been to refer to ships as She.

Also keep in mind that they went well above and beyond with the accuracy of the video. The Swordfish pilot that gets that hit and looks frustrated, is because he hit one of his own ships. It was foggy, dark, and total chaos during the final moments. The conning tower of the Bismark being hit, the list to port, even the final explosions onboard while she was sinking. It blew my mind. I knew Sabaton did their best to sneak in some dates, and things, in effect being really good history teachers, but this one video was truly phenomenal with the details packed in. They couldnt mention the cat since it would have taken away from the tone and gravity, but the cat was rescued from the Bismark, and remained on a British ship, the HMS Cossack until it sank, but the cat was once again rescued, and then that ship, HMS Ark Royal also was sunk, and the cat again rescued. He was dubbed Unsinkable Sam, and spent the rest of his days in the UK, on dry land. Anyway, they did record this, out at sea, in the cold, rain, miserable weather, which in itself is metal, true metal.

You can learn so much history by listening to Sabaton songs, for example I never knew about the battle for Castle Itter (where Germans and Americans fought side by side) until I listened to The Last Battle, and I never knew about the battle of Osowiec Fortress until I listened to Attack of the Dead Men. Unfortunately they haven't made many videos of this quality to go with their songs, but as others have said, Christmas Truce is one that they have, and it's awesome and heartbreaking at the same time.

"Uprising" and "Screaming Eagles" are two other really powerful songs with absolutely great videos to them. Dabaton in general makes great, informative music, but these two have the best music videos besides Bismarck in my Opinion. "Uprising" is propably gonna make you cry.

Uprising in Warsaw is my favorite of their live performances. It's a song about the Warsaw fight against German invasion in WWII. Heck, ALL of their songs are great. Take your pick.

The wreck of Bismarck was discovered on 8 June 1989 by Robert Ballard, the oceanographer responsible for finding RMS Titanic. Bismarck was found to be resting on her keel at a dept of approximately 4,791 m (15,719 ft), about 650 km (400 mi) west of Brest. 48°10′N 16°12′W

As a HUGE history fan and metal fan this song is a top 5 for me. The Bismarck was a legend and the story of the allies sinking it is even more legendary. This song is more emotional than romantic songs.

Sabaton are the history teacher you did not know you needed, they are neutral when it comes to the stories in war and shine a light on actual heroism regardless where it came from. This way they avoid glorification of war, and instead focus on the human aspect during those times, in this video the captain scribbles the coordinates into that silver compass and gave it to the young sailor who was picked up from the sea, this also hints at the fact that the captain went down with his ship. (there's a lot to that story, far more than i can list quickly and accurately) You have plenty of great songs to discover with this band, and your knowledge of history and events will get a refresher course as well while checking out more Sabaton ;)

4:00 It didn't just leave in 1940. :) The navy took the ship out to sea without telling the boss that they are taking the ship. Because the boss was too afraid to let the ship out because he was afraid that big ships are too big of a target, and bring shame to their country when they sink. When the ship sunk, Hitler first heard the news that it sunk from the radio from the British celebrating it.

Fun Fact the Bismarck is a beast, the rudder got hit by a torpedo, and just sat sail in cirkels. If you look up how much it took to sink that ship. Its quite impressive. British guns lobbed 2,876 shells at the ship, hitting it up to 400 times, yet it stayed afloat. A torpedo volley, though, broke through, sinking the Bismarck in four minutes on May 27. The ship took 2,131 lives with it. The British ships Rodney, King George V, Norfolk, and Dorsetshire all fire on the Bismarck

Sabaton + working out is literally a match made in heaven. Even if I'm dead tired in the morning and I need to push extra reps the energy from songs like 'No Bullets Fly', 'Bismarck', 'Winged Hussars', 'Hellfighters', 'Hell & Back', 'Devil Dogs', 'Dreadnought', 'Attack of the Dead Man', 'Night Witches' is just unapparelled. It does not want to make stop the pump one bit, just keep pushing my limits - it's crazy how effective their music is at not only teaching you about history, not glorifying war and giving proper respect to those who fought/died in war.
