The old fishingboat captain is the son of the last survival of Bismarck, who died the year before this song released. The pocket compass, brought with him from B shows the position of the wreck.

The name painted on their boat is 'Primo Victoria', the name of their first album released. The title track is about D-Day at Normandy. This video was made in conjunction with Wargaming, the company that makes the World of Warships game. Yes, the Kriegsmarine ships were referred to as 'He'. The HMS Hood was mentioned in the radio broadcast at the very beginning of the video. More Sabaton, try 40:1 or uprising, live at the 2012 Polish Woodstock festival.

No, Bismarck was the only ship referred to as "he". From what I know, it was Hitler's preference that the captain adopted quite happily; no idea how others thought about it. Other than that, yep, fully agreed :)

In the beginning of the video they open the car door and you can hear the old school radio say ".. battleship that blew up the mighty battlecruiser Hood...", so they might not mention it in the song or show it in the video but they do mention it in the video.

In the beginning of the video, when it first open fire, it is against a ship with a very distinguished gap. That is the Hood that was sunk by Bismarch. Then they try to escape to the Atlantic with the Allies on their heels......

@@jonaslinhage9503 I thought that the ship they shoot at in the video was Prince of Wales, to me it does not look like the pictures I have seen of the Hood.

The Hood is mentioned in the beginning when the band gets out of the car old radio audio is played.

In the video they even payed attention to show the Canon towers falling / sinking before the Bismarck himself. These turetts were not bound and attached to the Bismarck. They were loose put on the parts of the ship so they were able to move freely. In the video you see them detatch when the Bismarck sinks. After the Bismarck was discovered the towers were found about a mile apart because they fell first. It's so sad.😔

Great reaction. I remember listening to Jonny Horton songs in my youth. My favorites were Sink the Bismark, Battle of New Orleans, and North to Alaska. Sabaton songs are epic, heroic, tragic, and awe inspiring. Their concerts are insane, and their videos are cinematic masterpieces. They go all out in everything. For Race to the Sea, they filmed up to their waists in a mine lake, ruining a set of instruments in the process. They have collaborated with gaming companies on songs like Kingdon Come (Manowar cover), Steel Commanders, Primo Victoria and with Yarnhub for animated story videos. Almost any Sabaton song is worth listening to. thanks and keep rocking🤘🤘🤘

In Germany, ships are always referred as "she" There is this myth going around that Bismarck was an exception and called a "he", but as a German with quite a bit of interest into WW2, I have never come across an actual mention of the Bismarck as a "him". Edit: Of course, with German grammar, it is a _lot_ more complicated than just that :) Because this goes only for cases, where you refer to a ship by it's name, "and then the Bismarck went down" (und dann sank _die_ Bismarck) - in this case, "the" (die) is female "and then the battleship Bismarck wend down" (und dann sank das Schlachtschiff Bismarck) - now it is the _Battleship_ ) and "the" (das) is a thing. "the cruiser Prinz Eugen left the Bismarck" (der Kreuzer Prinz Eugen trennte sich von...) - now the the is referring _Cruiser_ which is male (der) Yeah, German language, bloody difficult even for us natives :)

The captain of the Bismarck only ever referred to it as a "he" and supposedly even corrected Hitler when he called Bismarck a she. So it is a he as far as I care considering the highest authority on the ship called it as such in reports and personal diary. The survivors of the Bismarck even seconded this, notably Müllenheim-Rechberg. If you haven't come across a mention of it as a "him", you clearly didn't look that hard into it.

The Bismarck was referred to as he / him. It was one of the two ships that formed the Bismarck-class. The Bismarck himself and his sister ship the Tirpitz.

They probably didn't mention directly the HMS Hood probably they wanted to respect the tragedy that happened in the battle of the Denmark strait where the HMS Hood blew up and sunk in less than 4 minutes broken in half and only having 3 survivors out of 1200 (more or less)

You should look closer to the beginning of the Video. When Bismarch first open fire, it is against a ship with a very distinguished "gap" behind the commando biridge and the second chimney. That is unmistacibly the siluette of the Hood that was sunk, and then later they set course to the Atlantic with the Allies on their heels..... Sabaton never miss a thing. They are professionals at what they do.....

The Bismarck was sent out without Hitlers permission you can imagine how pissed he was. And when the Bismarck sank none of his people told him. He learned about it from the English news. I would not want to be near that guy when he learned about in any way shape or form (not to mention that I never would have been in the first place). But imagine the rage...

To answer your question about the He or She thing. So Admiral Lutjens who was stationed on Bismarck did refer to the ship as a He. And even encouraged others under him to do the same. However theres no other documentation stating others did as well. In fact many reports show Germany refer to Bismarck as a She as well. So Bismarck was called a He by one man, but overall Bismarck and other German naval vessels were referred to as Shes like other nations.

Well, in Russian language all ships are "he", "she" is for submarines
