The band are talking. "We need something special for the outro." Hans picks up the phone "Honey, what you doing? Need your help for a bit." My great grandfather lived long enough for me to know him. He was a major in the German army during WW1. He told us he gave orders to never fire on Christmas Day. He said "It was the only orders he never regretted." Even if he did get in trouble for it.

Part of the history on this: this was in the first year of the war. Before the Germans introduced poison gas, before the U-boats started unrestricted attacks on ships, before the Paris gun started shelling Paris, and before Zeppelins bombed London. Up to this point there could have been peace, but the war escalated and hatred was sowed.

The end credits (yes it is sung by Floor) are taken from the separate official orchestral version of this album called "The Symphony to End All Wars". Sabaton has released the last 2 albums, Great War (2019) & The War To End All Wars (2022), both are about ww1, as 3 different versions: 1st is the normal "just the metal songs". 2nd is the History Edition with a spoken intro for the topic before every song. 3rd is the Orchestral version. In that one, all the songs are re-imagined as orchestral pieces. There is no "Sabaton" in it. No Joakim singing or Pär, Tommy, Chris or Hannes playing their instruments. Instead they have violins, flutes, cellos etc., choirs, and in some songs Floor Jansen. The songs in this version don't really have words as such, the singing is more like it is in these end credits. Hannes is the blonde getting blown up and 1st out of the trench. For pronouncing Hannes the Swedish way, Joakim says it 3:03 and Pär says it 6:22. As for Joakim it's different from the spanish way. It's more like you-akim. For the "right way" you can see Joakim saying it himself here: Joakim Brodén | SABATON Answering The Most Asked Questions On The Internet kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJSbpKmmm9RomtE It's also quite nice, funny and informative thing to see anyway :) btw. This one might be also interesting for people: My Story As Metal Frontman #2: Joakim Brodén (Sabaton) kzbin.info/www/bejne/f365pGudlqlkjM0

just love your perceptive comments and your humanity that comes through. his voice and the whole delivery/production is perfect for the job at hand . to ram our face into what we do to each other sometimes sometimes ,so we can't look away. riveting .it's like a primal scream coming out of him "LOOK WHAT WE'RE DOING TO EACH OTHER ;STOP FOR GODSAKE " THESE GUYS ARE ON A MISSION TO BRING SOME SANITY BY GETTING US TO LOOK AT WHAT WE DO. and from that get a lot more serious about finding a better way to sort our differences so for a start these soldiers ,who were trying to mind their own business don't get dragged into it .
@mileshill7196

Every soldier who participated in that truce had infinitely more courage than the monstrous leadership that put them there. After the Christmas truce, the leadership on both sides swapped out personnel because their soldiers no longer wanted to fight their “enemies” in the other trench. Instead, they saw them as what they were: people just like them. That’s dangerous thinking.

This one pulls at the heartstrings and the fact that the command on both sides didn't want this story to get out because they were afraid it would humanise the enemy and they would lose fighting spirit.

They were right. Industrialized killing can only happen when you see the enemy as 'the other', less than human. Kinda like what's happening now in the US. So many 'others' ...

This happened across the entire front, only a few units didn’t participate on the western front. The secrecy was for the civilians. Soldiers already knew the enemy was just a guy, not some propagandized monster. Civilians needed to keep believing the propaganda or else the War couldn’t keep going, which was important to those in charge at the time.

IIRC, the piano part isn't "Oh Holy Night" but "Carol of the Bells" with minor chords (instead of the uplifting major ones). Great reaction, but don't be afraid to share a tear or two with us: getting emotional on this video is just proof you're human (and of a good kind, also.) 👋🇮🇹🖖

Yes, but not just minor (I believe COTB is already in a minor key). It’s an inversion of Carol of the Bells. Basically they took the melody and reversed it for the main theme.

Welcome to the world of Sabaton. All their songs have a historical fact behind and they are masters in storytelling. I recomend you react to the Sabaton song "Soldiers of Heaven" next time. A sad story about the White War when forces from Austria-Hungary and Italy fought in the Alps. Many of these soldiers frooze to death or were buried by avalanches. Their bodies still lies there, preserved in snow and ice for more than 100 years now. Great reaction dude. Hello from Sweden, home of the Vikings, Sabaton and Floor Jansen 🙂🤘

As a fan of this group, there are somes songs to réact: - No bullet Fly (the best one with Bismarck), the official animation clip: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqTPgGBpfMyYpLs - Night Witches official animation clip : kzbin.info/www/bejne/a4qzoGuwedCpr5Y ATTENTION, for No bullet fly and Night-Witches animated clips, there are 2 version. you definitly have to take the longest one to have the context therwise you will not understand the depth of the music - "Fields of Verdun" (official clip, very powerful, deep voice) -"Sparta !" Here, there is no clip, but Fanmade with the movie 300 did the job: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYrUp6eEn8l_frc - "Shiroyama", the last stand of the Samurai. Very emotional but here, there is no clip too. A fan made a very accurate video with the movie "the last samurai": kzbin.info/www/bejne/d16ckIeLpb57mMU very accurate - "Rise of Evil", Hitler's rise to power: Again, no clip but a fan use somes extract from the movie "Rise of Evil" on the same event, so it's very very accurate to take his music vidéo: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6KUY2Opf8qcqbs It's a very good selection with very good video clips which are the most in line with the lyrics when there is no official music video Peace !

You have a very nice reaction! Hannes is the drummer, and Floor was the singer at the end. Joakim mentioned that the tune came from "Carol of the Bells." I love to read the fans' posts, as I learn a lot there too. It seems that after the truce, many soldiers did NOT go back to fighting each other. There is a book, Silent Night, The Story of the WW1 Christmas Truce, by Stanley Weintraub. They aimed their guns into the air when they shot, so they wouldn't hit their new friends. I read that many of the Germans flatly refused to fire again on their friends. Of course, the royals who started the war, and who heard about things in their mansions while drinking champagne and eating caviar, the royals and their commanders didn't want the war to stop (though the soldiers who started fighting in August 1914 were told they would be home by Christmas). So the tragedy is that the soldiers were reassigned, or moved to the eastern front to fight the losing battle against Russia. There is some indication that some of them were shot for treason. I'm glad that you mentioned how inspiring the story and song is, to inspire people not to make the same mistakes, to find ways other than war. Too many people watch this video and remark that we will always have war. Well, I don't think that has to be true. Like Charles Dickens wrote in A Christmas Carol, keep Christmas every day. btw, Tommy Johansson's A Christmas Carol with his great band, Majestica, is a must for you to hear, if you haven't already:)

Just subbed, love your reaction style. Mostly I appreciate that you're not afraid to talk over the video. I appreciate and understand why reactors pause, both to help avoid copyright issues and to express their thoughts - but I really love the way you just speak up when something hits you.

Sabaton's Christmas Truce is my favourite Christmas song of all time and also it has other meanings for me. In WW1 where I come from in England we had our own Regiment, it was the Hertfordshire Regiment named after the county where I live. The 1st Battalion of the Hertfordshire Regiment was actually on No Man's land on Christmas 1914 with the German soldiers celebrating Christmas. The other thing is that the Rugby Union Club that I am a fan of is London Irish Rugby Union FC, who are named after a British Army Regiment called The London Irish Regiment who were also on No man's land on Christmas day 1914, they were the Regiment that had the football that was used in the famous football match between the British and the Germans. The actual football survived WW1 and is in the London Irish Regiment Museum and can be seen today. British Sabaton Fan 💂‍♂️💂‍♂️💂‍♂️💂‍♂️🇬🇧🇬🇧🇮🇪🇮🇪🇸🇪🇳🇱💙💛🇺🇦🇺🇦

One thing that non-Swedish speakers are unused to is how we often put the stress on more than one of the syllables in a word or. That there is a stress on both the Yoh and Kim part. They often say "Yoh-a-KEEEEM", with a "long" stress at the end, rather than a short kim (like in the name Kim). It's often easier for them if they see the name split up. Like it's a double name. Like "Yoh a Kim". Then it tends to be easier for them to pronounce Kim the right way. In the name Hannes the stress is only on the HA-part like HA-ness, though. Pär is like the word "pair".

Up & down the front line agreements where made with the British,French and germans the British held a few different matches nobody kept score but one match a British priest kept score and he was the Referee the germans won 3-2 🙂 still a beautiful thing tho Also the soldiers who took part in this event both sides asked for transfers to different sectors because they exchanged their gifts and played football they couldn't kill there enemy after getting to know them so a lot put in transfers so they wouldn't see each other again.
@Wolf-ln1ml
@Wolf-ln1ml 2 жыл бұрын
I don't think they _asked_ to be put on different sectors... From what I've read, they simply were assigned to different parts of the front exactly because the generals were afraid that they would refuse to fire at the now humanized "enemies" (and many actually did refuse, or deliberately kept missing). In some cases, the German soldiers were even transferred to the Russian border as a punishment...

A lot of the soldiers could not bring them self to actually fire at the other side after this, aiming to the side instead of hitting their target. The sad part is that the generals and leaders did not take kindly to this so some of the soldiers were sent to even worse battlefields as punishment.

Swedish Metal rules! If you want more Swedish Metal i suggest you checks out Arch Enemy. They are an big Melodic Death metal band and they have an female growler/singer. Songs like Nemesis, The World is Yours and The Eagle Flies Alone are some good ones to start with 🙂
