You mean Motörhead, this is a cover of Motörheads 1916 but that doesn't matter much because you misheard that. It says "and that's how it is for a soldier". If you listen to the rest of the song they make it clear that every soldier is forgotten, as in "and now no one remembers our names" which is the point. Meaningless death for absolutely nothing.

Don't forget that this is a cover of a Motorhead song, so in this case, the words are Lemmy's. Sabaton covered it in their style, of course, and brought in other historical references/people from other songs they have done. The girl from the alley during the solo represents Night Witches, the convertible they walk past is from Sarajevo, being the car Franz Ferdinand rode in, and there's plenty more. So, the song was written from a British perspective, but Sabaton widened it to other soldiers. The 'Hun' in this probably represented the Germans.

A truly horrifying thing to recognize about the first World War, is that no one really knew what they were walking into. Because there really was no war like it before it. The massive, blighted killing fields, the most common way of attempting a breakthrough was charging fortified positions with numbers (with the stormtroopers being the most successful attempt at subverting that method). Giant rolling clouds of sickly colored gas killing and crippled thousands at a time, and giant metal behemoths that were just as terrible to be inside as they were to face. World War 2 had its own brand of horrors, with no war truly like those two. And may we never get anything like either one

I saw them perform this live in Leeds on the first night of the tour, and it was so emotional. So let's raise a few glasses: to Birmingham, birthplace of metal; to Lemmy (RIP); to Sabaton; and to those who sacrificed so much. My wife's grandfather was one of those who lied about his age - he was only _14_ when he went to the Front! He got out alive, thanks to some amazing luck: he was wounded and taken to a field hospital, and his own father was there at the same time. He swore a lot when he saw his son, then wrote to his wife back home explaining the situation. She in turn sent evidence of their boy's age to the War Office and they pulled him out. After he came home he never spoke to anyone in the family about his experiences. Lest We Forget.

"The Hun" is what the Germans/Austro-Hungarians were called by the Brits during the WW1, to make the enemy be considered more barbaric, associating them with "Atilla the Hun". While the Huns did occupy Eastern Europe, very few Germans have significant traces of Hun DNA.

Stalin supposedly said: The death of one man is a tragedy. The death of millions is a statistic."...He was wrong, the death of millions is a million tradgedies, each devetating the life of countless people, never let numbers numb you to reality, as the quote by Lemmy states after the song itself, in the UK (and MANY, MANY more places) there wasn't a single family, workplace, village, town or city or even individual who didn't know someone who had died in WWI...a million deaths means the painand suffering for so many more, enver let cold numbers disguise the suffering they try to hide. As a different Sabaton song states "Always remember a fallen soldier!" I love this song and this band and to all those who have fallen in the line of duty Thank you for your sacrifice and may your example inspire us all to make sure the day when no-one has to die at the hand of another comes and comes as soon as possible, that is our duty that is how we can pay our debt to the fallen back!

Very somber reaction. Thank you! The "Hun" is a derogatory term the allies gave the Germans in both world wars. The original Huns where a barbaric tribe that lived around the area of Germany nearly 2000 years ago. The Allies called the Germans "barbaric Huns" for propaganda.

the real sad thing is that, when you think about it, the assassins of Archduke Ferdinand (which was the cause of WW1) are also offhandedly responsible for WW2. if it weren't for them, Hitler may not have done what he did and started WW2. it was because of his resentment of the results of WW1 and the Treaty of Versailles (as well as the obvious treatment of the Jews as he blamed them for pretty much everything that went wrong both past and present) that he did what he did. if the assassination had never happened, all of that may have been avoided.

Did you notice the Aussie flag? Sabaton knows their shit, Australia had the highest casualty rate per population than any other nation in WW1. 60 thousand killed with a population of only 5 million at the time, 10's of thousands more wounded, gassed and with PTSD that took their own lives or died from their wounds after the war that were not listed on the casualty list from the war. As a child I remember seeing men that were missing hands, legs or feet up at the local shopping centre in the 1970's. Lest We Forget. So thanks Sabaton for being better historians than the actual historians from the UK or America.

The other, often overlooked perspective, is that WW1 was a war fought using old warfare tactics, relatively "close (musket) range" w/ the introduction of modern long range automatic weapons. Personally, I prefer Motorhead's version. W/ all due respect to Sabaton, Lemmy captures the emotion of a naive 16yr old who left home to become a man, only to lie dying, frightened, wishing to be in his mother's arms one last time. Sabaton's version sounds like a viking warrior proudly, fearlessly, fighting to the death, ready to die on his shield.
