Wars are part of our live, we like it or not. I will never, ever approve war crimes, it's a shame for any nation and it's blameworthy. The same time war shows the thrue face of every man. I ‘m Pole and never accept invasion of my country in 1939 but the same time I’m for all brave and honorable soldiers fighting. I’m far away from war apologets, but only in extreme situations we are able to judge who’s around us. Many times I hate all those false smiles and comments. Too many people like to put stiletto to your back just becouse, wthout any big reason, just to earn another cent. Respect for all brave and honorable soldiers and shame for all criminals. Hopefully all of you guys understand me well.

My great grandfather was polish soldier in Egypt, Africa and Italy. I have at home his cross for Monte Cassino, my second great grandfather in 1944 was sended to Stutthof camp, he was last from 100 legally freed prisoners from this sick shit. I dont remember who but one person in my family was in Wehrmacht because of Volkdeutsch list... if parents would not let send him to army they could die.

@Umberto Ferrari The majority didn't vote for it yes. It's hard to say what the majority people where thinking inside a facist dictatorship. Especially after the fall of the dictatorship when it became super despised as the evil's it was doing, not so much suddenly became known, but had those with the iron fist of political correctness generally removed. However, the denial of reality still continued to a large extent. It reminds me of the abortion advocates. They know exactly what abortion is, but they refuse to believe it, because they choose evil.

@Umberto Ferrari That sounds very accurate. Yes, the Nazi government did become very popular in power. Having said that, it was still a facist dictatorship, so many of those who wanted to speak out where too scared, or more too comfortable with their lot in the system. Also, the Nazi propaganda fueled stress of loosing the war and facing Soviets reprisals and also, but to a far lesser extent, western allied reprisals, notably from the French and concentration camp liberators, would also b3 a major factor in the suicides. But yes, the Nazi party did, and needed to, become extremely popular in order to put what they needed to into place for public support of the war and the extremely racist policies.

The movie Mein Fuhrer portrays what I'm talking about very well, it's a bit of a dramedy but it shows how Himmler and Göring may have been plotting against Hitler. For example, he was convinced by them to shutdown the SA and kill Röhm, under the notion he could challenge his power, but that's exactly what a manipulator would do, convince him that someone else is untrustworthy so they don't even consider the possibility of the accuser being disloyal. Hitler's original plan was to deport every Jew other than specific freemason or communist political prisoners but Himmler convinced Hitler otherwise, which that movie specifically references. I'm also not a neo-nazi, I have Jewish relatives and grew up celebrating passover with them, please don't take this as entirely in defense of Hitler because I definitely have disagreements but I can't help but admit I agree with a lot of what they did up until the night of the long knives. I also like telling people I firmly believe Nazi Germany's drug policy (which was nothing), working at a smoke shop it gets some good reactions. I specifically have a problem with freemasonry and communism to be frank and as an American it bothers me knowing every country we've invaded banned Freemasonry prior and most people don't even know the nazis persecuted freemasons, the general of the Japanese military specifically said in a public speech that the reason they invaded China was to stop freemasonry from spreading communism, I digress. And when I call Hitler an 'idiot' it is largely in the English slang use of the word as a general insult and less a stab at his actual intellect. Which he was quite intelligent. But the state at the time just seemed to do all they could to shoot themselves in the foot over and over and over and it was the regular everyday person who had to pay for it all in the end. And that is how my Opa felt about it too. So much destruction and loss, all for goals which have largely been achieved by the EU and NATO in the decades since, via regular diplomacy. The song is actually about the battle of Breitenfeldt where king Gustav II Adolf of Sweden had a great victory, but I can see why it could've been misunderstood because of the fact that "gott mit uns" was used by the wehrmacht and is in german.

this song was written for tell the history of the army of the swedish empire controlled by king gustav II in the 30 years war in germany in 1630 against the catholic army of the sacred roman empire. the motto of the swedish king himself in the battlefield it was " gott mit uns" ( god with us ). this motto it was also used by prussian empire and saldy, by the soldiers of the third reich.

And the result is very visible: Almost all sections of the German army behaved very violently in Poland. The Wehrmacht commited way more warcrimes than regular armies. The occupation of European countries was left to the Wehrmacht and horrific in most cases. And I don't think most other people than the Germans and Japanese would follow all kinds of questionable orders so blindly. You say 'for the most part' they weren't nazis, I don't think you are grasping just how popular Hitler and nazism were for the German people during that time period.

We will never see men like that ever again. Don't get me wrong I respect our troops in this generation but technology has spoiled our military now days. Just image the rush, fear, the need for survival, when tanks rip open a tree line behind them hundreds of soldiers come running from behind. Machine guns, artillery, and actual dog fights, not none of this hitting from 2 miles aways with radar and missiles, REAL SKILL of the fighter and machine....

The Jolly Johnson If you look at warfare pre- Industrial Age before the 1800s it was more honourable and less insane. Although I highly respect the troops of the world wars we should be glad we don’t have to fight in these conditions anymore.... (well hopefully not) But yeah I agree the Wehrmacht were a different breed, soldiers back then were another level
