As the new album, "The Last Stand" came out today, I thought I'd combine one of my favourite songs from the album with one of my favourite war films, both of which tell the story of the 9th Company of the 345th Independent Guards Airborne Regiment of the Soviet Red Army, defending Hill 3234 in Afghanistan from an outnumbering enemy force.
DISCLAIMER: I do not OWN neither the song, nor the film, all materials used in the video belong to their rightful owners.
This is but a humble tribute to an absolutely awesome band and a fantastic film.

Just in case anyone's wondering, the numbers for the real battle were 39 Soviets against about 450-650 Afghanistan and Pakistanis. 6 Soviets dead 29 injured. About 200-250 dead Afghans and Pakistanis

@@ОттоБисмарк-ч6м perhaps concentrating near Kiev was a bad idea, but take into consideration 3 things - a) Soviets desperetaly wanted to set up a stable frontline seeing how they were being pushed hard; b) the Russian command was pretty fresh seeing how they were either new guys from the purges or Communist commanders who usually only had 20 years of service (since 1917) and c) the attack was very unexpected - Heeresgruppe Mitte (forces north-east of Kiev) were pushing the Reds in Moscow direction - the original plan - and the decision made by Hitler during the plan to encircle Киев crippled the idea of a quick rush to Москвы. I'm not even sure if the РРКА was able to withdraw over half a million troops without serious gear loss or creating an opening for Panzerwaffe to exploit.

That's called reverse propaganda; you promote a lie based on fake numbers so that when people try to find if its true or not, the truth weights even more into the message. Like for example, a thousand civilian germans died incinerated during the bombing of Dresden in WW II.

Listen, “Gioconda”, but honestly why are you going to Afghanistan? You could have been sitting at HQ, drawing. You have a talent. You wouldn’t understand. Simplify it. Simplify it? There, see the tank? Beautiful, isn’t it? Such power and nothing unnecessary. Not one line. Weapons are the most beautiful things humanity has created throughout all of its history. And? There was this artist during the renaissance, Michelangelo. He was once asked how he creates his sculptures. He answered: “simple, I take a stone and remove everything unnecessary”. Understand? Beauty is when there is nothing unnecessary. Nothing out of place. And at war there is only life... and death. And nothing unnecessary. War is beautiful.

The film "9th Company" incorrectly describes the events. No one abandoned the soldiers. They were at the top of a mountain. When the enemy advanced on the height, the Soviet troops did not have the opportunity to quickly assist them. The helicopter landing party could have been destroyed on approach. The planes could not bombard due to the close proximity of the opposing sides and low cloud cover. But help came. The command took all possible measures to provide assistance, and the guys who went to help their own also took all possible measures.

@@lukastanojevic2750 At some point it's true. Slavs were like bullied kid. Slavic tribes always were one of the most peaceful and welcoming tribes in whole Europe. They never liked war, so when enemies came to their land, they always tried to hide or make some kind of deal. When someone came to them without war, they always grabbed everything good they had at home (most delicious food, drinks and etc.) and tried to meet guests with ''bread and salt''. Then, in 966 one nordic guy (literally viking) traveled to Kyiv Rus'. His name was Rurick. He killed Askold and Dir (guys who were rulers of small part of rus'). Then he conquered all other slavic tribes, teached them how to demolish everything on their way and united them under one flag. Should i tell you what happened when Rurick died and actual hardcore motherfucker (Igor) came to power? This mad lad attached wheels to boats and charged walls of Byzantina (*EASTERN PART OF ROMAN EMPIRE)*, and well...ROMAN EMPIRE had shield of Igor on their gates and had to pay money to Rus'. That's where story of absolute awesome bullshit began. If study history of slavs...

For those not familiar with military talk allow me to put this into perspective. Yes 6 were killed while 28 were wounded. Wounded translates to not combat effective that can be anything from being knocked out, losing hands, mental breakdown any sort of injury incapacitating the soldier that he cannot fight. This means 11 guys were holding off the Muj in those final critical hours because keep in mind this fight lasted 12 hours so I don't bitch at the movie too much with what it showed because you'd be surprised how many of those guys on screen could have lived when you get medics there quick.

39 paratroopers with the support of the regimental artillery not only held out against 200 (according to some - 400) of the Mujahideen more than 12 hours, incurring minimum losses, but also forced the latter to retreat. Yes, that's right. In the film "9 Rota" the battle for hill 3234, missing, to put it mildly, not shown quite reliably. However, we will not judge this too strictly. It's still a movie. According to the film, only one person survived. Actually killed 6 people, various injured 28 people, 9 of which are heavy. All Marines of the 9th company during the battle at height 3234 were awarded military awards - orders of the red Star and red banner. The commander of the calculation of large-caliber machine gun Junior Sergeant VA Alexander and private AA Melnikov was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union (posthumously). All the Mujahideen who attacked the height of 3234, were dressed in a black uniform, which has a black-red-yellow stripes on the sleeves - a distinctive sign of the detachment "black stork". According to the encyclopedia, under this name the division of the Pakistani fighters saboteurs hid. It was created in 1979 to counteract the Soviet troops entered Afghanistan. At different times it was under the leadership of Amir Khattab, - I-Islami Gulbuddin Hekmatyar and Osama bin Laden. By the way, the latter also joined the battle at the height of 3234 (photo of the event - in the article) and was even wounded. According to other data, under this name people who have committed serious crimes before Allah were hidden. These include murder, theft, etc.Atone for their guilt in these cases was allowed only by their own blood. During the Afghan war, Europeans were seen among the participants of this unit. Most often, they traveled in jeeps, Isuzu, at the rear of which was mounted a heavy machinegun Fim Director Bondarchuk Jr.-lying scum

How haunting, that soldier's observation on the "beauty" of war. It's a shame, maybe it's because I'm not a soldier, but I find life beautiful because of the complexities inherent in it. Everything is unique in its own ways and contains all the basics plus a thousand little complexities. War, to me, though I am considering a career in the military, seems meaningless in comparison and ugly. Hawkeye on MASH once said, "They say war is hell, I disagree. Hell is where all the most awful people in the world go. In war, nobody is spared. So, therefore, war is worse than hell."

Ironic how the movie shows most of the company killed for more pathos, while only 6 died irl. Normally you would expect a film director do the opposite to glorify an army, but russian mentality seems to be more focused on the concept of sacrifice for the country, not normal battle glory

You have to admit. His explanation of war isn't that far off. Sure there is all these complexities in the military and structure. But in battle it all comes down to who lives and who dies.

We Russians are proud of our soldiers, they protect not only the Motherland, but mainly their family and relatives. You think that Captain America or the Hulk will save you. We Russians have real HEROES, and you only hate us because of this.

Stars and Stripes beats hammer and sickle look it up. For a better answer look at which country ( the Soviet Union) is no longer on the world. Yes they did push the German army back to Berlin but remember Finland I thought Russian were good in the winter but I guess not and Afghan and remember it’s lossless and victories but mostly both. I bet u also remember the millions that Stalin killed

@FishladYT For you, people of the west, our heroes and soldiers are just "bloody commies", "better dead then red" and etc. You will never understand what russian mother's felt, when their sons gave their lives for country and later that country found them guilty because of this war. All your interest is a capital/money.

I love it when the Taliban walks slowing in closed formation from the 18th century across open terrain against fortified positions with machine guns.
