From Wiki. Pilecki and all others sentenced in the show trial were rehabilitated in September 1990. He was awarded the Order of Polonia Restituta in 1995, and he received the Order of the White Eagle in 2006, the highest Polish decoration, On 6 September 2013, he was promoted to Colonel by the Minister of National Defence

@@mr.nugget1217 Yes. But he was awarded after he died because when he died Poland wasn't independent (occupied by communists from russia). So independent Poland honored him after soviet union colapsed.

My Metal Maffia friends, thank You for reaction to the song and History chapter on Witold Pilecki :) There is another reason for the line "who knows his name" - after the WWII Poland was under communist occupation and talking about WWII heroes was forbidden, unless you mentioned them as traitors. Some of the Poles never heard of his bravery until 1990s when communist rule was overthrow and historians got free access to many documents from the WWII period. Meanwhile in the west allies tried to appease Stalin after WWII and mentioning unjust executions would be counterproductive to their politics etc. His name was not known neither in Poland nor to the outside world for many years. Thank You Sabaton for honoring col. Pilecki and thank You for doing what You do with music from around the world :) Happy New Year!

Well, that's true, that the name was replaced by number, but also Witold Pilecki went to Auschwitz under a false name, with documents that he found in the apartment in Warsaw. He was sent to Auschwitz as Tomasz Serafiński. What's more interesting, after escaping from the camp, Pilecki ended up in a small town called Nowy Wiśnicz (where I live) and he was referred to the deputy of the local army unit. It turns out that this deputy is the same Tomasz Serafiński, whose documents were taken by Pilecki. It was just a coincidence that they had even met.

Part of this clip is a fictionalized documentary title Pilecki I don't know is there a English version of it. Hollywood was trying to obtain rights to create movie about him but his family told them to go and poun sand because they was planning to change his nationality.

Nice reaction,but don't compare the US army to this Polish hero,Poland was fighting for its survival,while the USA has never been attacked and people there never had to fight for the right to live on that land,at least not in recent history. USA has a strong history of illegally invading other countries,just as Nazi Germany invaded Poland back then,so you can see how it seems disrespectful to me. Anyway,I will leave a like.

@@MettalMaffiaOfficial I know, I just often get triggered when someone present US army as the good guys, I was bombed by them as a kid, they killed 4000 civilians including 45 children in my country and never answered for it. My father and thousands others also died from depleted uranium from their bombs. Have a nice day.
