Makes it more awesome when you know that King Albert I of Belgium did actually fight on the battlefields in WWI as an actual commander. They did get to fight shoulder to shoulder with their king while the Queen worked as a Nurse. A king who fought in such battles, what a sight that would have been.

I cried listening to this song last night bc it's so bittersweet. I didn't exactly know what to expect with this song topic because while I knew a bit about the topic, I didn't know how a song about it would go. I must say this has been a real sleeper hit for me. It's both a sorrow and a triumph simultaneously. Belgium holding and breaking the dam to be sure the advancing germans wouldn't take everything from them alongside their King has this heraldic, courageous quality while still having a mournful, determined edge in the tone and words. The chorus even has this gushing quality to it like the river, both vocally and with the guitars. The drums have that crash of water on rocks with the cymbals producing trickles of sound in support. The video is very fitting. And the song itself feels practically omniscient in light of recent world events. P.S. I have to ask tho, my guys, did y'all put Pär on a box?

My grandfather was part of the 🇨🇦 forces and the liberation of Belgium in WWII and many other significant events in the war. The few stories I was able to learn from him are horrific. Especially the ones of soldiers, on both sides, committing gruesome atrocities of war. Some to "avenge" the barbaric methods of cruelty committed against their fellow brothers in arms. Some for various other reasons, or even no reason at all. These along with all stories from this time in history need to be remembered forever. Thank you Sabaton for what you do. Yet another awesome song. It's hard to believe that I only learned of this band because of my history teacher. I should have discovered this much sooner. I do have a question though. Since you do songs in both Swedish and in English, yet the languages are very different from each other (I still hold that only a person who grew up with Swedish could possibly pronounce some those vowels properly). I was wondering how you manage to keep the same/similar rhythm to your songs when the two languages have very different cadences, syllables, and patterns of speech. I'm probably not wording that very well. Hell, the only reason I'm even attempting to learn Swedish despite me being notoriously bad at languages, is because you guys are awesome and one can't help but fall in love with the language as well as the songs.

As a Swede with several international friends i can say that Swedish is a bitch to learn so good job and good luck going forward. Also regarding the lyrics, the differences in the languages can be overcome with a mix of vocal freedom (dragging a word out or tweaking the pronounciation just a little bit) and just plain FEEL of the song. The songs convey an emotion about the story being told and as long as that emotion remains the same you have done a good job. Also, some songs on the Carolus Rex album are even written from differing perspectives depending on whether they are in swedish or english, 1648 is from the Attacking swedish perspective in the swedish version and from the defenders perspective in english. :D

Moreover, he refused any collaboration (unlike the French), which is why he remained a prisoner throughout the war and the Germans had to place pawns to run the country. As a citizen of Nieuwpoort, Belgium, where the floodgates of the Yser were opened and part of the Battle of the Yser/Race to the Sea took place, this makes me proud to hear Sabaton memorialize and spread the often forgotten and rich history of my region and country! Nieuwpoort never was a city that would make it easy for invaders to take, as history shows. We fought of the French, invaders from other current Belgian cities, the Spanish, and the Germans. Belgium may be a small country, but contrary to what the Germans thought, our ancestors were no 'chocolate' soldiers! And while I'm no fan of royalty, King Albert 1 has my utmost respect, he was a true Knight/Soldier king of the Belgian people.
