The story goes that Charles the V couldn’t pay his soldiers and they decided to raid and pillage Rome, which at the time was unheard of due to Rome being a Holy City. Due to the fact that the soldiers were Protestants and blamed the Catholics for the war they attacked the Holy City of Rome, the 189 were Swiss guards who gave their lives to protect the Pope and the city. Their legacy is lived on today as, if I remember correctly, only the Swiss are allowed to guard the Pope and new members are sworn in on the 6th of May.

no, it's not only the Swiss that are allowed to guard the Pope. They are the last line of defence, true, and are a few selected with probably the most strict parameters of any military force in history (they must be swiss citizens, roman catholic, between 18 and 30, unmarried, at least 174 cm tall, or 5'8'' for imperial users, and be part of the swiss army. other than that their number is limited to 100), but their number is way too small to guarantee the Pope's safety, so when he's in the Holy See his safety is mostly provided by the italian police force, intelligence agency and the special forces, while on one of his travels the security is provided by the nations where he's residing

@@Moribax85 Well no thats wrong - the swiss guard is the only one protecting the pope - the police is protecting the crowd thats a difference - the swiss guard also has elite training they dont only have spears lets put it like that

@@kingofrivia1248 I suggest you inform itself before calling someone wrong: the swiss guard is mostly ceremonial, but still retains some active roles, such as bodyguards. The problem is they're too few, they can't provide enough protection in the face of tens of thousands people, they would be too much outnumbered, so when in the Holy See they're assisted by the Corps of Gendarmerie of Vatican City, when abroad by the local police or military force. And no, they don't receive any elite training, just the basic training from the Swiss Army and a specialistic training in VIP protection and extraction. Check your facts buddy

One of very favorite bands, and the best history teachers around. Check out their history channel where they explain the event and how the song was made super interesting. The Swiss Guard still celebrate this date as each year new officers are sworn in on the date of the massacre of their members saving the Pope. Great reaction and yes Sabaton will wake you up!!! I see you guys are following the Nightwish trace....since the drummer of Sabaton (Hannes Van Dahl) is actually married and have a kid together with Floor = The singer of Nightwish...so yes these 2 groups has real good connestions :-) ...and Floor is from time to time joining them in recordings and some liveshows too....And both of these bands has real good connections with 2 other great bands - Amaranthe and Apocalyptica...who are also from Sweden (Apocalyptica are from Finland). If you want to see something amazing from Sabaton live....Just go to their legendary concert at the Woodstock festival in Poland and listen to "Uprising" and "Ghost Division"......According to the festival and Sabaton themselves there were over 600 000 people there- the last day of the festival watching!!!! Its almost hard to believe . But you can understand about how many when you see the drone filming....

Great reactions, I just started watching your reaction and love them. I have two suggestions for you: 1 “En livstid i krig”. Live in Gothenburg with subtitles (as it is in english. The entire public sings along and it is so epic. 2 “40 :1” live at woodstock. Thats also an epic one with over 500 000 people in the crowd. And then there is many more!
