My history-obsessed 14-year-old absolutely loves Sabaton. We rocked them on a boys' trip this weekend, and even as a near 50-year-old father of three, I cannot get The Last Stand out of my head. I don't know how many middle-aged fans the band has, but they can count at least one more. Bravo, gentlemen.

Since Charles V, ruler of the holy roman empire couldn’t pay his troops they mutinied and forced their commander to lead them towards Rome where plunder was plentiful. Fun fact, the german soldiers were called "Lanzichenecchi", from the italian word "Lancia", which means spear, because of the very long spear they carried. Those soldiers werent imperial soldiers, but mercenaries, and thats why they mutinied. On the other hand, even the Swiss Guard was made out of swiss mercenaries, but instead of surrending while being outnumbered, they decided to gave their life for the Pope.

Ok I did some research on "The Stand of the Swiss Guard" as its called. It is true that they swear in new recruits on that day, May 6, to honor those who died. However, you dont get people excited about joining your group by telling them all about the ultimate sacrifice they might have to make. You dont shy from it, but dont lead the conversation with "you might die like these guys did". However, this song is inspiring, emotional and a good tribute to the brave men who gave their last to protect that which they held most important.

I finally made it out of all the comments. I wanted to say I live on a farm and a big one so I take my dogs on a walk every day and then I put my headphones in and listen to 28 of my favourite sabaton songs and just listening to your songs makes me always so proud because I sut not know there are still bands that play about music. Whell also thanks for all the great songs

Everyone in here talking about the Crusades and taking back Jerusalem when the song is actually about the Swiss Guard protecting the Pope from an army of dissident knights and soldiers.

The song doesnt fit the crusades tbh, the only thing they resemble it to is the heaven parts, they dont realise the pope exists I suppose

To be fair, the Swiss Guard today never have faced a real threat like those in 1527 so they won't understand the true emotion of this song.
