Also France and "defeated" don't exist in the same sentence... unless "Defeated" is preceded by "got"! France couldn't beat a cold! or Germany, Or Vietnam, Or the English, Or the Russians! Oh and the Scotts where beating the English until the French showed up to "help", they got slaughtered the next battle. 3rd world African nations are actively throwing the French out as we speak! I am convinced France only exists as a nation as people view attacking it as bullying a retarded child! Remember Japan defeated 2 Chinese invasions, seized Korea off the Russian Tsars after crushing the Imperial Russian military in battle, Conquered China, seized most of Asia off the British and Yanks forcing the 3 major super powers of the time ,USA, UK and USSR to resort to NUCLEAR BOMBING to defeat a nation that had been in the damn feudal age until 1870! For you slow pokes in the back, Japan went from the DARK AGE to Nuclear age in 75 years, or achieved the same development in 75 years as took the west 2 to 3 HUNDRED years! Then again Both Asia and the Middle east had great schools of science and medicine while Europe still thought that rubbing your own shit in your wounds was a good idea.

Saigo Takamori was the last. His Samurai attacked until no man was alife at 24. September 1877. Died for their Honor. Fought with sword a modern army.

Ive only discovered Sabaton recently and I really enjoy their music. Idk if its my imagination but a handful of their songs sound like TV show intros which makes it more fun for me

This film is based on the Satsuma Revolt, however none of the battles shown in the film went anything like in real life. For starters the battle in the woods where the imperial soldiers are defeated by the samurai never happened. The first battle was at a place called Kumamoto Castle, and the samurai made the mistake of thinking the imperial conscripts were 'green'. After two days of fierce fighting they pushed the samuari back, until an imperial army of reinforcements arrived which forced the samurai to flee. Two more battles ensued, one at Tabaruzka, which the samurai outnumbered the imperials 1-2, and still lost, and a second battle at Mount Enodake. This time the numbers were in the imperials favour, having seven times the men. Most of the samurai either surrendered or committed suicide. The final battle took place on a hill called Shiroyama. By then only 500 of the original 20000 samurai remained. The samurai fought all night, and wouldn't surrender even when only 40 of them were left at the end. It was a glorious, if somewhat doomed revolt. In the film they make out that the samurai relied on just swords, but in reality they also used firearms and artillery in the revolt. In the end however, nothing compares to well drilled and logistically supported infantry.

The Gatling guns were real and the Internet says that the remaining Samurais with their leader dead did a Suicide charge at the Imperial force of Japan which they got gunned down by Gatling guns of the Late 18 Century

'The Last Samurai' is loosely based off the Satsuma Rebellion of 1877. Ken Watanabe's character, Katsumoto Moritsugu, is based on Saigo Takamori. Unlike the film, Takamori did work for the Meiji government. While he desired to have no ties with the West, he did seek to modernize Japan's military. The samurai were an ever shrinking Class. A remnant of a bygone era, that the People viewed as no longer needed. For that Takamori feared that his kind, his family, would be lost. Unlike the film as well, when the Rebellion began, Takamori did use modern firearms. The only reason he stopped is due to having no more ammunition. The film's final battle is also based on Takamori's final battle at Shiroyama. Like the film, the Samurai numbered around five hundred, and they did charge and engage in hand-to-hand fighting with Imperial troops. For awhile the Samurai held until Takamori was shot and mortally wounded. Also like the film, he committed seppoku, and an aide cut off his head. With no leader, no ammunition, and surrounded and outnumbered, the remaining forty Samurai launched a final charge towards enemy lines. Like the film, they were all brutally cut down. In real life the Battle of Shiroyama was pretty one sided. The Imperial troops possessed modern rifles and artillery, they also had gunboats that conducted a night long bombardment of Takamori's camp before the battle. In the end, all of the Samurai were wiped out. The head of Takamori was recovered and buried. The Emperor later pardoned Takamori. Today there are shrines dedicated to Takamori in Japan, and he's revered as a hero, a keeper of the Old Ways.

anyone who hasn't looked into the real event's that inspired this song and movie is doing themselves a disservice it was an incredibly complicated series of events that lead to this and there were a ton of reasons it happened ranging from class warfare, authoritarianism, American colonialism and a deeply rooted and respected culture at odds a desire for the wealth and power that came with modern methods of commerce and warfare. It's a story with backstabbing betrayals, assassinations, last stands of martyrs battles won that defied all odds ending in a massacre willing walked into on nothing more than principles and a respect for their culture and history and the hopes the fight would carry on even with their deaths. In some ways it did in others it didn't but either way it was an event and conflict that changed Japan forever and arguably the seed that lead to pearl harbor and the Japanese declaring war on America.

Но весь фокус в том, что когда астронавта геодезиста оттерли от каналов связи, с помощью шаманских методик разместив его несколье севернее, то он задумался как бы отправиться с местным племенем несколько южнее, но вот каким то образом разделение труда привело к товарно денежным отношениям, которые привели к воровству, и самому главному шаману пришлось убить первого вора каким то непонятным физическим методом лишающим доступа к кислод роду, шаман обвинил астронавта в том что не разбирается в основах физики и новых формах правления, а народ в это время подумал зачем нам старый шаман, а геофизик не стал отвлекаться от инженерных расчетов на простое быдло, не способное даже понять для чего нужны чертежи

Изначально - копьё и алебарда. Меч - это как у пистолет у офицера, застрелиться. Все солдаты делали копьями, поэтому бой выглядел иначе.

Great song, great movie, but if I can''t help myself to notice that the Imperial Army (the modern one, in blue) armed with excellent long range weapons: artillery and rifles (rifles, mind you, not the old type smoothbore muskets) shot a few salvos then advanced towards the samurai army, losing their range and accuracy advantage and giving the samurai the chance to slaughter them in edged weapons close combat, a type of combat in which the samurai excelled? Truly, this doesn't make sense...

@@hangmen1230 Well, first of all it is a movie, so it has to be dramatic and have epic close combat scenes, so there's that... but regarding the fact that they might have been reloading, usually, that style of tactics required at least two rows of soldiers, and while one row aimed and fired the other row was reloading. The system was quite effective actually, in providing constant fire.

Странно кажется таким знакомым. Как будто фильм сделанный по книге. Где иностранец попадает в Японию. И становится самураем не помню автора. По-моему книга называется самурай. Если я конечно ничего не путаю. Но вряд ли сильно в этом ошибаюсь. Кто знает точно. Напишите прав ли я хоть немного. Please пожалуйста если вам нетрудно будет.

Uh The Satsuma Domain did have modern weaponry, their schools have emphasis on firearms and artillery, quite modern ones too. The Last Samurai just ignores that, and the fact they're the ones who are against the Shogunate in the Boshin War

Ok, my Korean is a little rusty, but are you saying you want to live sometime in 1880s in Japan? While the idea sounds cool, you would probably die or kill people from the amount of modern diseases you could be carrying and the older diseases that the people back then are carrying. You would not be alive to enjoy the period for long.
