...the films never seem to grasp that the Romans fought as a single unit with segments. Key to their success had always been 8 men fighting as 1, 80 men fighting as 1, 480 men fighting as 1 -then it gets more complicated. But when their shield cohesion was broken, they all knew they'd loose so staying as a unit was always their aim. In the films you see them fighting individual combats, but, if they were to win they'd never do that.

This reminds me of a book A Clash of Eagles by Alan Smale in which the Romans stay united and are an empire into High Middle Ages (1200s). They discover Hesperia (North America) and are attempting to halt Genghis Khan from invading Europe. I the Caesar King ain't working for ancient Rome or any organization or group, but think about this, how can you encode only the one fourth of things or beings and then you call that complete total ?
