The brightly colored planes were a real thing in WW1. There wasn't much need for camouflage and it helped to be recognized to avoid friendly fire from the air and ground. Jasta 11 was famous for having very brightly colored planes, which earned them the name "The Flying Circus." It was an encouragement for the men on the ground to see their allies in the air and also struck fear in the enemy when they realized who they were up against.

The screaming colours of the planes is historical accurate, cause there was no use for camouflage. But the own troops on the ground could identify them very easy, and for the other pilots it was easier to spot the own ones as well

They earned the name "The Flying Circus." 1 cause of the bright colors they painted their planes and 2nd cause the unit was moved many times from 1 area to another. the colors also helped ID the pilots (as to be credited with a kill you needed to have witnesses and Proof) and help during dogfights and from ground fire to prevent friendly fire. it also scared the crap out of rookie pilots who had to face them. and Snoopy was shot down a few time by him lol there also are a few good movies about him,and he pops up in some tv shows

I'm pretty sure that last flight was a suicide run to die like a warrior. Kaput, broken could actually refer to himself that he couldn't handle it anymore.

He was and is so well known, that Snoopy had a Dog Fight ( xD) against him, and during the Vietnam War, several F-4 and F-111 Fighter Squads made own, non official Crew Patches with the red baron theme. In todays german Air Force, there is a Fighter Squadron named after him, JG71 Richthofen, having a bright red "R" as Insignia

From what I know, there was 2 uniquely colored planes, Red... the red barons ofcourse, and a Purple with Kurt Wolff.. Otherwise, yellow was quite common from what I know... I think those two was the only once that was 1 toned.... there was probably alot of 2 toned aircrafts...

It is correct that he and his squadron pained their planes red just to intimmidate the allies who would fight them coz all knew that a red plane meant an ace. Their commanders didnt agree to this but they had no say coz the pilots actually owned their planes themselves. In the end though the tactics they were using, hed fly low and pull allies after him and then his squadron would swoop down from behind the sun and attack, he actually went to low and came into range of ground fire ahd was one of those who killed him

Only Richthofen had a full red plane, many pilots of his squad only painted some parts of their planes red to show the enemy that they are Jasta 11, they are called flying circus because the pilots had painted their planes in bright colors

There's also another good reason as to the brightly colored planes: it was for friendlies to easily distinguish other friendly planes when dogfighting, since friendly fire was quite common when all the planes look similar. Richthofen had painted his plane red so that his squad always know where he was at all times.

You know, you did something right, when your enemy gives you a state funeral with all military honors..... kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4i7dGSVe8epsJo “- Achilles: You're still my enemy in the morning!!!" - Priam: You're still my enemy tonight. But even enemies can show respect.”

"not the typical..." its like riding a horse, right? Manfred von Richthofen was a Cavalry Officer before he joined the air corps, so its obvious ;)

Never listened to them before but that was pretty cool... I'm old school Metal and have always been drawn towards lyrics with substance...positive messages, history, classic literature etc...Iron Maiden has many songs like that and I guess you could say the British side of the aerial war with their song "Aces High"...I actually watched a live video of "The Red Baron" and a documentary about him after watching the video you guys posted. Thanks...I learned something today... Ever seen Snoopy do his imitation of the Red Baron ? I'll post links if you wanna check it out...Peace

Great animated story video, but for me the song is just mediocre & I like Minniva's cover more, so I'm at 8.0 with this one. P.S. One of the best snipers that ever lived, the Finnish Simo Häyhä, managed to kill over 500 Soviet soldiers in three months during the Winter War between Finland & the Soviet Union. The Soviet soldiers called him the "White Death" & he didn't even use a scope for aiming his rifle. He also used to eat snow so that the enemy couldn't see his breath in those cold winter months.
