ya this video is about the battle of liri valley AKA the battle of monte cassino in itally in febuary of 1944 when elite german waffen ss and fallschrimjager paratroopers held the monistary of monte casino ant the liri valley, this battle was importaint to the allied victory because the liri valley had the only road where tanks and supplies could push into rome

Speaking of little less sad things: A bear called Wojtek took part in this battle, carrying ammo for Polish divisions. He was adopted by the soldiers of General Anders in Persia and walked with them all the combat route, guarding weapons storages and supplying in ammo. They did not intend to use him that way but he began to wear boxes of ammunition himself. Today 22th Artillery Company Procurement has logo with bear carrying missle.

@Linken1212 - as 17 in 1939-43 your grandpa HAD to be volunteer to SS. if he was captured in Stalingrad and survived, he HAD NOT to wear SS uniform. so it is very possible he knew why to change it. and btw - in Stalingrad there were not elite SS divisions. but ofc like on all frontline there were some "sondercommandos" responsible for killing civilians.

@JoeRingo118 a small detachment of the 33rd Charlamagne French volunteer unit defended the Reichstag, there were 3 primary SS divisions in Berlin, the 33rd. the 14th Ukranian Galica division, and 1st LSSAH defending the Furher bunker

During the Battle of Monte Cassino suicide attacks took place. Polish soldiers were deliberately jumping on mines to clean the way for others because there was no way to disarm them under fire.

That is why general Anders ordered soldiers not to do this when he heard reports about such incidents. But still, do you really think that they would perform such assaults if sniper or handgrenede detonation would be possible? US Army, UK "Battleaxe", Indian, New Zealanders, Polish forces, all of them took excessive looses in this battle.

@sanimalscoolzfriend I found it super fun! And yeah it was too realistic. But war is not easy you know, the creators said though in a recent interview they realized how hard they made dragon rising. And in the new game its going to be a lot more easy but still brutal. Should not be no where near as hard as Dragon Rising

I'm not a specialist, but if almost all the sapers where killed during attempt to disarm mines, there must be a reason. If throwing handgrenades would solve the problem, then I'm sure that sapers would do this instead of being killed.

@church361 Actually i am not going to defend the SS in any way. But to be historically correct the Waffen SS did not run the death camps. Some later Waffen SS units personal were recruited from death camps, especially the Deaths Head division, but the majority was not. Of course they were NOT ordinary soldiers.

You people actually think that grenades and bullets explode mines? Sure. Maybe if you can see the damn thing, you can shoot it. But grenades? Even those that work on an HE principal, as apposed to a shrapnel principal, wouldn't be guaranteed to destroy a mine. A frag would do next to nothing to a mine, even if a shard hit exactly on it. It would take a one in a million shot to destroy a mine with a shard, and more than that to destroy a wide swath.
