In 2016 Sabaton recorded their own version of "Kingdom Come" by Manowar. A few months later a new video game was released by Warhorse Studios called "Kingdom Come: Deliverance". The band realised that the cover fitted great with the new game and as such they decided to release this new video promo featuring footage from the game.

The game was on course to be a pretty good game. Daniel Vavra had some pretty good past experience. He wasa programmer, director, lead designer, and screenwriter of the first two Mafia games.

BTW, for the folks thinking that the Hungarians were the bad guys... it' more nuanced. This will probably bore everyone who isn't a history nerd to tears, but here's the real history that the game is set in. And the game IS more historically accurate than really any other game or tv show, but it kinda leaves out a few important bits. And in the process it makes it look like more of a "Good vs Evil" kinda story than it really was. In case anyone is interested. (Disclaimer, I'm neither Hungarian nor Czech myself, just a history geek.) Sigismund and Wenceslas started actually on pretty good terms. Actually it was Jobst, not Wenceslas, who was designated hair for the Emperor crown by their father. Wenceslas got Bohemia, Sigismund got Hungary, and they were pretty happy with it for the time being. Wenceslas even sent the army to help Sigismund secure the Hungarian throne. The problem started when Jobst died. Wenceslas had a pretty good bid to become Emperor instead, as next in line of inheritance, except.... well, there's a reason why they called him Wenceslas The Idle. (Or more accurately in Germany, "Wenceslas The Lazy". I kid you not.) As Deutsch said back in Skalitz (you know, the guy whose house you "redecorated"), Wenceslas couldn't even be bothered to go to the DIet (sorta nobles' parliament.) And since becoming Emperor was a matter of politics and convincing the Electors to vote for you, yeah, Wenceslas didn't make the list. Sigismund was not eligible, since Hungary wasn't a part of the HRE. So, as Deutsch said, they elected Ruprecht from the Palatinate. Meanwhile Wenceslas was making himself as popular as a fart in a spacesuit in Bohemia. He wasn't only a bad administrator and lazy, he was also very arbitrary and at times tyrranical. He had bigger problems with the church than not showing up for coronation, too. E.g., he actually threw a bishop off the bridge into Moldau at one point. The net result being that most nobles, including Markvart von Aulitz (the baldie who killed your father), forced the king to accept Sigismund as a regent. You didn't get a regent unless you were under age or incapable. So essentially they made the king sign that he's incapable. Wenceslas actually didn't put all that much resistance, since he still got to be king and hold his banquets and have his lovers, but Sigismund got to administrate the realm in his name. Only catch: the contract they signed stipulated that Sigismund would try to convince the Diet to make Wenceslas the next Emperor. Since, you know, Wenceslas couldn't be bothered to play politician himself. Now a few years passed, and by 1402, it becomes obvious that Sigismund isn't putting all that much effort into getting Wenceslas the imperial crown either. And a bunch of nobles, including your good Daddy 2.0 Sir Radzig Kobyla, also start to miss the fact that before they could manipulate Wenceslas into signing just about anything (the guy REALLY couldn't be bothered to do his royal job.) Sigismund was actually a strong leader and administrator, and did his own thing. So what happens next is that Wenceslas and those nobles try to pull a coup d'etat. They try to dissolve the regency and put Wenceslas back in full power. Now although they thought they caught him at a bad time, Sigismund did react very quickly, bringing in the elite Cuman mercenaries. He puts Wenceslas under house arrest (kings didn't throw each other in the dungeon), assaults Kuttenberg (where, as the game tells you, the burghers were gathering their forces for the rebellion), and then deals very swiftly with the nobles openly supporting Wenceslas' coup. Such, as you know, Sir Radzig Kobyla. Now I say the game makes it a bit more of a "good vs evil" case than it really was, because the war you just witnessed in the game wasn't Sigismund attacking out of nowhere. He was officially the regent for years at that point, and damn if he was going to let some unruly nobles depose him at sword point. It was a matter of honour, if nothing else. Anyway, what happens shortly after the game is that actually the two brothers made up. Sigismund gave up and let Wenceslas dissolve the regency and have his power back. But then the contract was null and void, he had no more obligation to lobby for Weneslas to get the HRE crown, so he just went and got HIMSELF elected Emperor instead.

The actual problem that you also get to hear in the game, is that Zikmund (Sigismund's name in Czech) couldn't pay the Cumans so he also raided all the silver mines nearby, including the Silver Skalice, and the Cumans raped, murdered and pillaged to make up for what he couldn't pay them. That was a problem for the people. But other than that, Zikmund knew what he was doing as a ruler.

Sometimes the things are really surprising. Few days ago I read an article about soviet women pilots from WWII and in the discussion there was a link to Night Witches by Sabaton. I really liked the song so I went to youtube a looked for more songs. I was trully impressed how interesting topics they cover. For every song I listened to I went to wiki and read about the event. These events are so interesting and fascinating. I would never know about most of them. And 2-3 days ago I got to KCD and today I have found this treasure. Manowar is my absolute favorite band of all time. They're the reason that I became a metal fan. Sabaton has always felt like one of their spiritual successors to me.
