France Surrenders meme: *exists* Sabaton: “I’m about to end this meme’s whole career”
@Fr1kaD3ll374 жыл бұрын
I think the meme is just due to the French losing in world war 2. The nation was tired of war from ww1 and had an outdated military and stood no chance against the madness of the fully militarized third reich and had to surrender quickly to reduce civil casualties. For most of Frances history before ww2 and the Resistance the meme is very unfitting, but the ww2 part is very widely known. Eventhough i know the meme is bs, I'm german so naturally i have to use it sometimes to mock french (no hate tho, i love France
@thibskywalker44504 жыл бұрын
@@Fr1kaD3ll37 Thanks dude :) Technically, no country in Europe was ready to resume a conflict of this magnitude. And France, like the continental powers, did not have the luxury of being separated by the English Channel or the Ocean. However, I do not think that was not to say that defeat was inevitable. The Maginot Line has often been ridiculed on the pretext that it revealed a defeatist attitude. But, France being less populated than Germany, it could not hope to compete with its only army (Especially after the human disaster of the Great War). The fortifications had to compensate for this imbalance. The Maginot line aimed to protect the industrial heart of France from a lightning attack from the Germans, and thus create a funnel in Belgium to slow the invasion, and, at first, it worked. For 1 week, the Germans came up against the Fortifications. But they won the campaign of May and June 1940 thanks to its daring "sickle stroke" in the forest of the Ardennes, which was considered impassable by the Allied commanders. The British, French and Belgian armies were surrounded to the north, suffering a heavy defeat. French strategic planning is largely responsible for this catastrophe, but let's not forget that it was an Allied defeat, not just a French defeat. The Dutch and the Belgians being reluctant to risk their neutrality, there was little coordination with them, which facilitated the German attack. As for the British, they hired only a few Divisions (12), which seems little in view of what they hired in 1918 (59). After the Breakthrough in Belgium, the Allies somehow tried to plug the hole made by the Blitzkrieg, but the damage was already done. And because of this, the famous "cowardly French myth" has had its effect. Especially with the influence of American culture. While Defeat is not a question of courage or cowardice. The French Army was still on paper a well-equipped Army. For example, his Aviation and Tanks weren't bad at all. Quite a few Panzers or Planes from "the Lutwaffe" aircraft perished during the French Campaign (EX: Battle of Stonnes). However, unlike the Germans, the logistics were very badly exploited by Old Leaders and attached to the old doctrines, or then by Officials who were only there by opportunism. Communication has also been catastrophic too. Although their generals were surpassed in 1940, the French troops fought with courage and skill. For example, during the battle of Gembloux - from May 14 to 15, 1940 - the first French army succeeded in repelling the German assaults on numerous occasions, saving time so that their comrades and their allies could withdraw. Or the Battle of Lille where 3 French Divisions held nearly 4 Days against 7 German Divisions and 3 Panzer Divisions. Without such rearguard actions, there would have been no "Dunkirk miracle" and the war could have been lost in 1940. At the start of Operation Barbarossa - the German invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941, the Red Army lost almost 5 million men, including 2.5 million who surrendered. The Russians have also lost millions of square kilometers of territory. However, as Charles de Gaulle told Stalin after this terrible defeat, the Soviets still had a vast territory in Eurasia, in which they could retreat (and a huge demography + Rough Winter).
@thibskywalker44504 жыл бұрын
@@Fr1kaD3ll37 French military contribution to the Allied victory during the Second World War continued after 1940. For example, The Capture of Koufra in 1941, the Free French Forces who held 14 Days at the Battle of Bir-Hakeim against the Rommel (and Italian) Forces in 1942, who were chasing the 8th British Army from Montgomery through Libya and Egypt. The latter were able to join El-Alamein and prepare for combat thereafter. 550,000 French soldiers made a major contribution to the liberation of Western Europe in 1944. The Commando Kieffer who landed at Sword Beach in Normandy in June 1944 + The French resistants who had an important role of sabotage so that the Operation Overlord was a success, Operation Dragoon - the landing in Provence in August 1944 - was a Franco-American operation. French Airmen who were engaged on the Russian Front: The Normandy-Niemen squadron was created in 1942 in Damascus under the name of "Normandy". Many French soldiers involved in Operation Dragoon were recruited from the colonies, as well as from the British side, since 2.6 million Indian soldiers were involved in the war effort. In any event, the French units which served in Italy and in Western Europe between 1943 and 1945 fought bravely. Or then, the 2nd French Armored Division of General Leclerc who fought in Normandy, who supported resistance in the Liberation of Paris, who liberated Strasbourg and who would have reached Hitler's Eagle's nest in Austria first. However, the Americans maintain that it was the 101st Airborne that would have reached it first. Finally, there are debates, everyone sees as they see fit. Technically, France is a small winner compared to the others, because it came out very bloodless from the War (especially with the Vichy Collaboration), but De Gaulle (with the precious help of Winston Churchill) made it do everything the same part of the winners.
@bluenothing_6664 жыл бұрын
@@Fr1kaD3ll37 Germany invaded France with less tanks, soldiers and planes in comparison to the French army, and there were also the British. At this moment, Germany wasn't really militarized yet. The OKW (Oberkommando der Wehrmacht/Supreme Command of the German Armed Forces) also said, that parts of the armed forces weren't ready for a war yet.

Im glad our countrys are working so close now. We are from a common history, once, a eon back we were united in one. Our cultures clashed and may clash in future, but to a future where we are clashing together against any foe. But eachother. It was a pointless war but a War our countrys held nonetheless. And I would say both sides really didnt wanted this. None of these kids wanted that war when they realised how it actually was. To a great future together.

I remember hearing you for the first time ever at Hellfest 2019 when Joakim's voice went home early but you still managed to put a GREAT show out in a really good and uplifting mood. Got instantly hooked and bought my tickets to see you in Paris: absolutely worth it! The music by itself is excellent but man, the energy you put in your shows... impressive! And something very rarely seen nowadays: you do sound better live than on CD! See you soon Sabaton 🤘🏻

Lyrics: *French soldier screams "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" while looking at his blown up fingers* As the drum roll started on that day Heard a hundred miles away A million shells were fired And the green fields turned to grey The bombardment lasted all day long Yet the forts were standing strong Heavily defended Now the trap's been sprung and the battle has begun Descend into darkness 303 days below the sun Fields of Verdun And the battle has begun Nowhere to run, Father and son Fall one by one Under the gun Thy will be done , And the judgement has begun Father and son Fall one by one Fields of Verdun Though a million shells have scarred the land No one has the upper hand From the ground above to trenches Where the soldiers make their stand As the trenches slowly turn to mud And then quickly start to flood Death awaits in every corner As they die in the mud, fill the trenches with blood Descend into darkness 303 days below the sun Fields of Verdun And the battle has begun Nowhere to run, Father and son Fall one by one Under the gun Thy will be done , And the judgement has begun Father and son Fall one by one Fields of Verdun Fields of execution turned to wasteland from the grass Thou shalt go no further it was said, "They shall not pass!" The spirit of resistance and the madness of the war So go ahead, face the lead, join the dead Though you die where you lie, never asking why Descend into darkness 303 days below the sun Fields of Verdun And the battle has begun Nowhere to run, Father and son Fall one by one Under the gun Thy will be done , And the judgement has begun Father and son Fall one by one Fields of Verdun

@@gautierramet9627 I will like for Sabaton to do a song about the Napoleonic wars as well and one about the American Revolution since I am an American. I may only have English ancestors that been in the New World since the 1600s that fought for American Independence and against the Confederates but I am willing to admit France won the most wars.
