Cześć! Jacob. A, tu w latach 39'-45' i w Europie ludność cywilna cierpiała. Pozdrawiam.

DaimonF Thanks for the reply! We also have this verse in Hungarian, so it must be part of the common heritage. Also, its not only words that join us, for example, the grandfather of my high school classmate is Polish, he fled here in WWII and had a family here.
@daimonf46599 жыл бұрын
Lightbringer82 Nice to hear that. I have a similiar story; When I was a university student I had a friend ( a very nice and funny guy), and his mother claimed to be half Hungarian. Her maiden name in translation into Polish meant "Biały Potok", which in English could mean "White Creek", I suppose. I don't remember the original pronunciation, though my friend told me. Are such surnames popular in Hungary? Cheers!
@Lightbringer829 жыл бұрын
DaimonF According to the English translation maybe it was "Fehérpatak". It is quite rare and I suppose it was her last name. Most Hungarians have last names like Nagy (big), Kiss (small - that's my last name, too), Kovács (blacksmith), Horváth (croatian), Németh (german).
@daimonf46599 жыл бұрын
Lightbringer82 That's nice you have replied. Thanks a lot. The maiden name of my friend's mother might had been the one you've quoted. Thanks again. And coming back to the topic of last names; the Polish equivalent of Hungarian Blacksmith is "Kowalski" /"Kowal" and German = "Niemiec" . We have lots in common. Cheers, Hungarian Brothers and Sisters!

It's fucking terrible that Sabaton is so popular in Europe, yet so unknown here in America. Here, they're headlining a huge festival in front of 500,000 people. But in a few weeks, I'll be seeing them in Baltimore, at a small, about 1,000 person concert venue opening up for Trivium. I’m American. But I have family that immigrated to the United States from Poland (Before WW2 fortunately). I’m a huge WW2 buff and the constant amount of reading and watching about Poland in WW2 makes me proud to have Polish heritage. They truly fought to the end and never officially capitulated. Just read about what the allies thought of them, they ran blood hot with revenge for Poland. It sadly was either die under occupation, or die fighting, they chose the ladder. I’m gonna read more about Poland outside of WW2.

@@krzysztofhaaburda7210 As an American I respect that. And truly y’all can understand a saying here “Freedom isn’t free”. To me, it always felt like the occupation didn’t end in 44-45, it ended when the Iron Curtain collapsed. My dad watched the Berlin Wall fall and has talked about how much he remembers it. But tell me, what was it like living in Poland during the Soviet Union?

@@sylwia9034 Sorry my friend, we in my family have lost any sort of translation of the Polish language. I hope this translation is correct “How can I be a fan of war?”. Well I’m not, it’s a ugly thing. But wars in my country and yours has shaped today, and many things come throughout war like technology, historical figures, and new eras. I just like war history (mostly relating to the US) unfortunately, the tactics, the battles, and Generals can be great geniuses. Or it could be my family has a long line of service to our country in war.

You can't say that we are "brothers", that term is very sacred and it's used mostly in terms of service in battle. But if your concern is that Poles can't accept you for the individual that you are, don't worry, we forgive history. But it's important to talk about history because we learn from the past. This song is not a battle cry, it's more of a resolution of history and a song of valor. Just remember you don't take blame or burden for your families atrocities (if that's even the case). Live your life to the fullest, there is no grudge in your case.
