Do you teach your students that Austro-Hungarians are occupiers in Sarajevo, that they annexed Bosnia 6 years before assassination of Franc Ferdinand, that this assassination was fight for freedom of southern Slavs, and that real reason for the beginning of Great War was that occupation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and aspiration of Austrian kaiser to occupy Serbia too, and erase Serbian country from the maps of Europe. Instead of that David beat Goliath once more, and Serbia continue to exist, but the great Austro-Hungarian empire disappeared from the European maps for good. That's the karma. 🙃 For the better explanation how strong and unbreakable libertarian spirit had Gavrilo, as well all other Serbs, is the text he wrote on the wall in his cell in Teresin prison: "Our shadows will walk around Vienna, wander around the court, scaring the lords". It means that even after death they will not stop to fight for freedom of their fatherland. And it's important to know that he was terrible torched in the prison almost every day to death. But it does not broke his spirit and will for fight for freedom till his last breath.
@charlesroeckeriv6226 Жыл бұрын
@@dragan024 Wow! Thank you for your passion. I definitely let my students know that Austria was conquering other people and oppressing them. However, I think it's a shame some Serbians see Gavrilo Princip as a hero; murdering a political leader and especially his pregnant wife during non-war time is a terrorist attack, not freedom-fighting. There are definitely alternatives to resisting oppression other than political assassinations. Now, if Austria-Hungary had been at war at the time with Serbia, I could see assassinating the Archduke would be a good idea since he was a military commander, but leave his wife alone so their kids wouldn't be orphaned. Yes, I understand the Hapsburg empire brought misery and death to Serbian families, but Princip was a thug who brought a more devastation from the war onto his people than any annexation would. I'm sure there are more noble heroes in Serbian history that people can look up to instead.

The thing I love most about your albums is when they tell a story from start to finish. It really solidifies that online moniker you guys have of being bards, telling stories. Your storytelling is what makes you stand out and I love when stories are told through music and albums. Carolus Rex does this the best imo, especially the Swedish Version, it's so powerful. The Rise and Fall of the Swedish Empire told through epic metal music. Incredible. The next best I think is Great War, because ending with In Flanders Fields is just like being hit with a truck. And then comes this- I really like the musical parallels of Sarajevo and Versailles, the naming parallels AND the parallels between GW and TWTEAW throughout the album. In fact, I would LOVE, I would LOVE, a special double album about WWI that combines these two albums into one- I think that would be really awesome, and bring the story into a more complete loop. However, it's because of this, that I find the lack of this song on digital releases of the album to be so frustrating, and indeed, even heartbreaking. The story isn't right without it. How can I listen to the story without the first chapter?! How can I end the story without the beginning? It feels WRONG. And what's more is, I don't understand WHY. I don't want to believe the rumours that this is a marketing ploy to boost physical sales, I really don't, because I think that would be a shitty move. Especially to do so without any notice prior. So I really instead just hope, it's a tech issue, and you'll resolve it once you've sorted out the Vinyl Ordering issue. Please do. Your millions of listeners worldwide, who cannot get or have to wait for a physical album in the mean time, want to listen to your new album as the complete story. Not a cut off one. Please give us this song on digital releases~!

The tragic irony is that Ferdinand was actually sympathetic to the Serbs’ plight
@johnl10919 ай бұрын
...which is precisely why the Black Hand targeted him. Zealots don't care about collateral damage, and the Black Hand believed there could be no true victory without bloodshed - that Serbia must emerge victorious from the forge of war in order to stand tall as an independent nation. Had Ferdinand ascended the throne and granted Serbia autonomy within the empire or full independence, the Black Hand would have seen that as a hollow victory borne on the pen of an Austrian autocrat. They wanted Austrians, and a lot of them, dead at Serbian hands. Little did the Black Hand know that their actions signed the death warrants of a full 25% of Serbia's population, and doomed the Western world to three decades of chaos and carnage.

This and versaille are masterpieces. Especially this one where the sound of the song with the narration sets the stage, and the tone is ominous and sinister, like the creeping feeling of an inevitable war coming. And the sound gradually changes as the song progresses to become more and more frantic until it absolutely just goes off the rails and that is when you know that the war has started. When the song goes hectic and almost hateful it transitions over to a somber and almost desperate sound. It's just perfect. The tone, the voice, the lyrics are so perfect in this song it's hard to describe, and the story the song tells perfectly reflects those feelings and those chaotic and frigthful days before the war to end all wars would start. Bravo Sabaton. Bravo

I saw the last uniform of Franz Ferdinand, yes, the very one in which he was assassinated. I saw the dress of his wife, the car and the gun of Gavrilo too. I think what really sells the chorus is that it feels less like one singer, but a group of men singing together in apprehension. Like an officer and his troop, you hear the officer's voice first and foremost and he's the loudest, but there's a slight delay and echo right behind and beside him, the collective voices of his troop. Also this knee-smashes hard while playing Hearts of Iron IV, makes me wanna grow muttonchops and wear a classy war hat.

Love the song, just think it's absolute bullshit that the album opener isn't available on the digital versions of the album. Make bonus tracks exclusive to physical releases all you like, but the opening track that is even referenced again in the closing song (the second half of Versailles repeats the chorus of Sarajevo) being kept from the album is complete and utter nonsense. Like the album was supposed to come full circle with Versailles harkening back to Sarajevo, illustrating how indeed war is a never ending cycle that is doomed to repeat itself, but now every time you listen to the album on Spotify or wherever you're missing the setup for that brilliant callback. Just a shame really.

100% agree. The album is so off narratively because of it. If it really was intentional, I think there are better ways of promoting your physical sales than this.
@reptiloidmitglied29302 жыл бұрын
There were some changes at Nuclear Blast Records after a French investor that is specialized on digital sales (and usually not metal) bought the label. For example they let the contracts of bands like Amorphis, Helloween, Meshuggah, Opeth or Sonata Arctica expire without even talking to them and my guess is that some others will follow in the next years. Not Sabaton of course because they've become a very big name in the business. For the new album I could imagine that they thought that the CD needs to be pushed to make good sales and cut out a song to make it exclusive for physical copies and somehow choose the opener.
