We're back in World War Two with Panzerkampf about the Battle of Kursk and the included Battle of Prokhorovka. It's an exciting episode with lots of detailed maps made by Eastory. We would also like to thank Markus Linke for doing the research and of course our beloved Indy Neidell for writing and hosting. We are only able to hire all these awesome people because of your support on Patreon. As Joakim says at the end of the video: 'that's what makes this happen'. If you would like to help us create this awesome show, make sure to take a look at our Patreon page -> www.patreon.com/sabatonhistory That was it! Now, ROCK ON and enjoy the episode! 🤘🤘🤘

Konstantin Rokossovsky, possibly the most underrated Soviet general in WW2. Survivor of the Great Purge which ended up with him having iron false teeth for the rest of his life, one of the few Soviet commanders to have any kind of success during Operation Barbarossa, and one of a handful of people to openly tell Stalin he was wrong about something (and not get shot over it), and victor in countless battles all the while being constantly overshadowed by Zhukov because of his Polish ancestry. Plus he just had such an awesome name

Model is very much an underrated german general and is certainly the best defensive commander of the war . He is responsible for prolonging the war through excellent defence strategy. He is often overlooked in favour of men like manstein, guderian or even rommel. His analysis of the inevitability defeat at kursk and defences averted a complete route after he was forced to call off his attack.

@@SabatonHistory Oh I simply lost the interest for it...I respect the history and like to hear something I didn't know before but my interest shifted more to the future and SF. That's a shame :( I hope you somehow refind your passion (or if you're happy where you are, by al means, i'm glad you found a new interest). The German Tank Museum approves this message. :D Seriously though, a good production regarding the historical content. The storytelling managed to avoid the old myths and to show the modern research instead, and that is what has to be seen and heard on KZbin. Especially 3:55 is a very good point - the salient did not exist in a vacuum, but in a larger strategic context. Important were also the facts that Zitadelle was only a stop-gap to give the Wehrmacht time to breathe and rebuild (it was nowhere near the dimensions of Blau and Barbarossa) and the fact that the Red Army of 1943 was a completely different beast than 1941. The only addition that should be made: The British intelligence was not really crucial for the Soviets to realize that the Germans were about to attack the Salient. First of all it was practically a refelx for German general staffs to pincer attack wherever possible, so the place was pretty much predictable. Secondly the Red Army intelligence reconnoitered the German build-up itself, because they actually couldn't miss it. Additionally the long decision making process of the Germans made the intelligence's job much easier. Best wishes from Germany!

And yet he repeats one of those old myth by stating that the SS divisions at Kursk were the first to have the Tiger and Panther. Tiger Is first went to Heer units, as did the Panther. In fact the none of SS division at Kursk had Panthers.

Once again you guys have outdone yourself and further cementing Sabaton as one of the greatest Metal Bands of all Time!!!

A hearty thank you to you guys: this combines two or more of my very favorite topics: military history and one of my favorite rock bands that features in their songs historical events and has started many a debate... as being a wargamer is one of my hobbies, I want to extend my thanks... and as a fan of wargaming, I am also partial to alternate histories and alternate universes for storytelling.

The first sabaton song I listened to. I discovered in 6th grade(now I'm in 11th jr. 1 year to graduation) I loved the song and discovered more sabaton songs. I grew up learning about history and warfare mainly because of my dad who also has a big interest. Still prefer the history of ww2 over most. Sabaton helped me learn more and just person research. And this series of explaining the history behind the songs is awsome.

Alright I’ve just gotta say this only five videos into the channel. This shit is how the history of wars and warfare should be taught in schools. I had history classes every year of my time in the US education system in all but my last two years of high school and for all that, I’ve learned more today than in all my school years combined. Nobody has presented war history to me in a way that’s engaging and palatable until I came across these videos today. Thank you!!!!

Allthough I really like this video there's quite a lot of historical inacuracies in it... Worst one is that General Model was neither a field marshall at this time (he became in january 1944) nor did he command german army group center (that was field marshall von Kluges job) but 9th army AND 2nd panzerarmy at the same time. Also the whole "battle of prochorovka"-story just seems to follow the sowjet post war propaganda although - as recent studies by e.g. Dr. R. Töppel or Dr. K.H. Frieser showed - it was a total disaster for Rotmistrovs two tank corps who nearly got anihilated with losses of about 300 tanks while the SS-Panzer-Corps in total didn't even lose 20 tanks on 12th July 1943.
