Hey, please check out the 6th installment of the project I've been working on with Tim Fletcher which is being hosted by NoTreble!
www.notreble.com/buzz/2021/07/06/kansas-leftoverture-the-complete-basslines-part-6/
"Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" is the title track off of the album by Black Sabbath which came out in 1973 and featured Geezer Butler on bass. The song is slightly sharp of concert pitch.
I'm, once again, playing the Bruce Thomas Signature "Profile" Bass from The Bass Centre in England through a SansAmp Para-Driver Ver. 1.

Good stuff. True story. Came home from HS back in the day only to find my mom upset and crying. She found my Black Sabbath album We sold our souls to rock and roll. She couldn’t understand why I had an album that had a ghostly lady lying in a coffin holding a cross. She just couldn’t understand. Mind you now this kid just turned sixty and still loves the early Black Sabbath. Thanks for the upload.

Thanks. Great story! Reminds me of me and the guitar player showing up at our, potentially, new drummer's house for the first time when we were in the 9th grade. We knocked on the door and a very conservative, white-haired woman answered the door. We asked for Jim and she said he was at religion class, then she really went white and clutched her pearls when she saw the "We Sold Our Souls For Rock and Roll" album in my hands. She told us we could wait outside until he got home... if we wanted to. Jim wound up being a great drummer and we played with him through most of our high school years. His mother never did warm up to us though... haha.

It took me about a year to figure out just how hard Geezer is digging in when he plays. He REALLY Diggs in with his plucking hand. He plucks the strings the hardest and closest to the neck (especially early in his career, he’d pluck the strings 2-3 inches up the neck)! I’ve never covered anyone that plucks the strings as hard as Geezer.
@TJH3113
@TJH3113 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, he has a very unique plucking style, doesn't he?
@kenduffy5397
@kenduffy5397 2 жыл бұрын
@@TJH3113 Yes, he does! It took me forever to figure that one out?! I could play all of his tunes but it was sounding like garbage! Too small?? Is way too small? lol, I sounded nothing like him? It was extremely frustrating. Until one day, I was on KZbin watching an old Sabbath concert from the 70s and I said to myself: “man, he’s plucking the strings so high up on the neck and he’s using fingers as more like a paddle or maybe how an upright bassist maybe would pluck?” Then that was it, it was that simple. Lol, I was trying to play Black Sabbath tunes like I was playing “Ramble On” lol It just doesn’t work. Lol, Because the two players are opposite. “Ramble On” is a completely different playing style (I play much softer like JPJ) I’m NO JPJ! Yeah, that’s not what I meant lol no no no It’s just a completely different style to p bass playing for “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath” as compared to “Ramble In.” Lol Anyways, I only play like Geezer if I’m in the mood and I’m way too lazy to tune down my bass lol unless I’m getting paid to play Sabbath all night? Which would be cool and fun but that’s never happening. I’m not tuning down my bass just to practice. Thanks for awesome playing and responding. Ken

I never knew those were the lyrics. I assume he was singing, "God blessed all of you." I looked it up and this was Geezer's explanation, “The lyrics to Sabbath Bloody Sabbath were about the Sabbath experience, the ups and downs, the good times and the bad times, the rip- offs, the business side of it all. ‘Bog blast all of you’ was directed at the critics, the record business in general, the lawyers, the accountants, management, and everyone who was trying to cash in on us. Such a great Sabbath song. I'm burnt out on a lot of the Ozzy era Sabbath, but can always go back to this song no problem, catchy, heavy and dynamic. That riff in the middle is killer. Was always disappointed in live versions where they'd cut it out. The vocal part is nuts so I get it. Great playing as always! Fun to see you tackle some metal once in awhile. But I'll never be disappointed in what you post. Loving this P-bass so much as well. Sounds great and that color is amazing.

Bruce Thomas signature? From Europe must be good bass or I know you would’ve bought it with all the cool high-end stuff you have. I am lucky though the first base I ever bought for 250 bucks was my maple glow 78 Rickenbacker. As as you know through my videos on KZbin Steve Nordstedt Plays and Sings. Because I’m a Geddy fan. The first thing I did when I went to his concerts with my binoculars to study how he was playing because they didn’t have tablature in 1981 for bass at least not from rush. What is the study how he was playing certain songs and realized he had a bad ass 2 bridge on his Rick so I went out and got one. But when I was stationed in the Air Force in Hawaii in 1992 I got tired of my Rick sound and bought an active or Laney and I had them put in the back pick up that I play over but I’m getting ready to take it out and put the original pick up back in it so it sounds like a Rick,since I play my Geddy Lee jazz 2005 Japan model. I just had it souped up. I had the frets leveled and crowned, replaced the old nut with a Graph Tech Nut. It plays much better and easier. Because unlike you I’m still working on YYZ’s 1 of the 3 runs.

Yes. The Bass Centre has a series of signature basses based on British bass heroes of the day. I took a chance on one and am very pleased with it. They are actually manufactured in Korea with final set-up being done in their shop. They are very reasonably priced, especially considering the quality. Your arsenal sounds quite nice. Take care!

Anthrax does great covers. I love their version of "Got the Time". Very good, but maybe only good because there was a lot of metal hiding in the original Joe Jackson song.

I'm glad you could finally like a P bass. It is my favorite bass. Though I do have other basses. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is one of my favorite Sabbath albums. Maybe my favorite from that era. But it is not very well apreciated by the fans. And the band didn't play the songs anymore when they reunited... maybe because of the vocals being to high pitched on most songs. The same goes for some songs on Sabotage. Also a great album. And of course you nailed the tone and groove perfectly.

I would really like to check them out I love the color of yours but I’d like to see if there’s any other ones in different colors..I know Fender has 2 colors I really like the tide pool blue and a surf pearl green(I think).. but anyways I’ve taken up enough of your time..hope all is well and have a great night…
