Sabbath School Improvement By: Glenn M. Mortel Greetings everyone! Let me share with you an acronym I coined when I was requested to speak on sabbath school improvement. Everyone is given permission to use this when being requested to speak on the topic. I call it A.L.E.R.T. Let's start. A - Arrive early in church. (Cite reasons why people usually come late and state the advantages and benefits for coming early); L - Lend a helping hand. (We don't come to church to be served but to worship and to serve. Turn on lights and electric fans, set the audio-visual aids, prepare the hymnals, arrange the flowers, chairs and benches, etc.); E - Engage yourself in God's work. (God is already at work. What we need is to adjust and align ourselves with God, and work alongside with Him.Sing when it's time to sing, pray when it's time to pray, participate in the lesson review, and most importantly, listen and be quiet if you can't improve silence with your words); R - Reverence inside the house of God. (People need to be reminded that God is holy and the church is not a market place. When we invite the presence of God in our midst, the place becomes holy, and therefore no nail-cutting, no running around, no idle talking, no burst laughter but a conscious and collective effort and desire to worship God); and T - Take down notes. (Sabbath school is also a school. When we go to regular schools, we have bags or back packs with us. Do the same during sabbath school. Bring Bible, hymnal, lesson, notebook, ball pens, etc.,then take down notes during lesson discussion and during the sermon. We should not rely solely on memory. When we take down notes, we can refer back to them for future use). Discipline is the key. The secret to your future lies in your daily routine. The surest way to predict the future is to create it today. Let us create an improved sabbath school by improving ourselves daily starting today. God bless everyone!
