It would seem that the 31,000 vacant posts are currently filled by contract teachers. There is no security for these teachers as they can be let go at the end of their contract. Im not sure what the big deal is about this Afrikaans thing. I went to a school where you could learn everything either in Afrikaans or English. The question is why must Afrikaans have this special treatment. Im Zulu and would have loved to learn everything in my mother tongue and im sure this is true of others with their mother togues. Afrikaaners need to accept that they are not more special than the other SA languages. Just pick Afrikaans as a 1st or 2nd additional like the rest of us do with our mother tongues. English is most common language for us all and one that wouldn't start a civil war if we had to choose a single language. Get over it.
@nontuthukon13223 ай бұрын
@@okuhtttf Stop please stop with the selective outrage. If a school is private it's private by choice. Why start a private school and expect the government to fund it as they do with public schools. In the public schools in I know of including the ones I have attended we had a A class (Afrikaans only) and E ( English only) classes. That is unfair for Afrikaans to receive that special treatment and if it continues it will lead to having Z classes for Zulu and X classes for Xhosa. And let's be honest that that would be disastrous. So we must all learn in English as a home language only because it's a global language of communication then the other languages can be taken as 1st, 2nd or 3rd additional language. Afrikaners love to separate themselves from the rest of the country and then cry victimhood if things don't go your way. If you have chosen to establish a private school that only caters in the Afrikaans language then cool but don't expect the privileges reserved for public schools

@@okuhtttf I understand what I'm saying very clearly, you just don't want to accept the reality of how things are now. Sure Afrikaners marched, whatever. If they choose to hold the status of private school then that is their democratic right but everything has consequences and here it's that you cannot enjoy the same privileges as the public schools. The Zulu and Xhosa and other languages could have their own schools, yes. But we all seem to understand that SA needs to function as a unit whereas Afrikaners want to be special and act like victims. We learn in school in English but have managed to preserve our cultures and languages. Why can't you do the same?. I'll tell you why it's because Afrikaners just hate to function in a society with people who are not their own. They want to isolate themselves instead of embracing the new status quo and reality of the country they live in. The reason you put so much emphasis on controlling personal and student is this very reason. Get off your high horse and join the society of SA as a unit.

@@bafanamahlatse1923 Article 29 of South Africa’s constitution states that: Everyone has the right to receive education in the official language or languages of their choice in public educational institutions where that education is reasonably practicable. The question is, who decides what is reasonably practicable. Ideally, children should be taught in their mother tongue, at least for the first few years. After that, many children actually choose English, possibly because of American influence, I don’t know. As you say, children should be able to study any of the official languages. The problem though, is that we don’t have enough qualified teachers for that. Perhaps online teaching in the classroom could solve that problem for older students. I get back to, we have too many official languages in SA. There is no easy answer because we’re facing education funding cuts. The WC is eliminating 2,400 contract teacher posts in 2025. The BELA Act now provides for compulsory grade R. So we have another year of compulsory schooling to fund. I wonder where the money is going to come from.

The teachers are loaded, no free periods, can't do admin and sometimes the classes is 60+ in class. Also according to dept, is ratio like 30 plus per teacher. Yet there is some times when 1 class is split into 4 subjects. Then 1 split is 5 x learners and take the same period as 40 others. Meaning the teacher appointed was employed per class ratio not with all subjects per learner. Language's and math's the biggest problem as well as class doing physics. It is sad truly to witness this trying to cope and working out time table. Esp the suburbs and the schools where there is only 150 pupils and 8 teachers in high school. This with 11 subjects. To spread these 8 teachers.

Children not in school equal to jail time - does that count for sick and injured children unable to go to school , when roads are blocked in rural communities and your kid is unable to go to school are you going to go to jail, if you live far from town and your vehicle breaks on the way to school will you be criminally charged 🤔

The Bela Bill will only be possible if in those Grades Free Education is implemented. Because if Free Education is not implemented while the penalties will be imposed to them, how are the parents going to afford the school fees, the uniforms, etc, while some parents are struggling right now with absolutely everything, because it is difficult for them to get the right jobs? Only Free Education will make sure that the parents, their children are at school every BLOODY day. Without doing that just forget about the penalties you are talking about.

Let the government make FREE EDUCATION in all Public schools, and the parents who are taking their children to Private schools, should pay for all the needs in those schools, because they can afford them. Moreover, it was their choice, no one forced them to do that. Let not the poor family lose their rights because of the families who think they need different education for their children. Any of their complaints, those families, should not even be solved by the government, but by the private sectors authorities of those private schools.
@bevturner22583 ай бұрын
Parents of children in private schools already pay for everything, by paying personal income tax. The government cannot afford free education for all. There aren’t enough tax payers to fund the children whose parents don’t earn enough to pay tax. The tax payers are also supporting the 26 million people on social grants.

The majority of public Afrikaans schools are funded by the parents, NOT the government.
@bevturner22582 ай бұрын
@@susanstander7315 That’s interesting. I was under the impression that most received some funding, as quintile 4 or 5 schools. If most Afrikaans schools are entirely funded by the parents, then what is all the fuss about? Do you have figures to support your view?
@bevturner22582 ай бұрын
@@susanstander7315 The BELA Bill clearly states it refers to public, government schools. It does not refer to private schools. If, as you say, most Afrikaans schools are private schools, then you have nothing to worry about.
@bevturner22582 ай бұрын
@@susanstander7315 Okay, just done a quick online check and it seems you’re wrong about this. Of a total of 23,719 public (government run, state schools) 2,484 use Afrikaans as their sole or second language of instruction. So clearly there are a substantial number of Afrikaans schools that are partly funded by taxpayers. To retain autonomy, these schools would have to be entirely funded by the parents. I assume they would also need to buy the government owned school buildings and grounds, or lease them from the government. It seems clear to me that the government wants the superior former model C schools, established during the apartheid era, to be available to all school children. These are the schools targeted by the government in the BELA Bill.

They left a lot of information out of the booklet, and people were not happy. They are so scared of parents that they made it during the week, and the announcement was made a few hours before they came to the community. These government officials they always have police around when they have to come and propose things to the communities😂😂😂
