Rho Aias as a shield is specifically good against beams and projectiles. Against a melee attack it would instantly shatter, but against projectiles it will hold up for a while.

If I'm not mistaken, even though a Noble Phantasm has a certain rank, it can be shot at a lower one. For instance, an A+ NP, coul be used even at B rank if mana is insufficient or for some reason. Interpreting strictly from the movie, Artoria Alter is holding back significantly against Medusa. Against Heracles she adapted her power accordingly. We could also say it's because of a certain stress authors have so as not to have an overpowered protagonist or a deuteragonist. Medea's eyes are inconsequential in this situation since we clearly see Artoria dispelling the petrification earlier in the fight.

Pues ella ya estaba afectada por los ojos de medusa, por eso vemos como se le dilatan sus pupilas. Eso le bajo un rango a su ataque con excalibur morgan. Luego Shirou aguanta lo suficiente para que la energía de Excalibur Morgan baje otros 2 rangos (ya no es la misma intensidad con la que empezó cuando lanzó el ataque) al punto que el NP de medusa puede sobrepasar lo que le quedaba a excalibur morgan. Hay que tener en cuenta que medusa le acabo pegando con solo el 10% de su NP después de que el 90% lo gastará en contrarrestar la energia del ataque de Excalibur Morgan. Igual fue suficiente para inmovilizar a saber alter por unos instantes y que Shirou acabará el trabajo!!

Rho Aias es bueno contra ataques de energía como ese o proyectiles. Contra armas más cuerpo a cuerpo es inútil, por eso puedo aguantar lo suficiente el ataque. Estaba apunto de destruirse a lo último si no fuera por el NP de medusa, confiaron su vida el uno en el otro como hablaron antes de la batalla.

Seen alot of bitching about how Rho Ais could stop excalibur...wasnt it revealed in other paths the lore behind it that it was basically the ultimate defense against ranged attacks. But it was also only good against ranged attacks. Also the way it operates is that each petal breaks and takes off a percentage of the damage. With the chant he did he's essentially continuously casting this spell as it is breaking repeatedly over and over again just to buy time. You can physically see his body getting rekt doing so. Idk why yall complaining. Its not some bs plot armor everything fits.

No, Rho Aias was only able to delay Excalibur for long enough for Bellephoron to reach Salter, also Infinite mana source doesn't change the fact that Salter needs to convert the magical energy into light first, as Excalibur was sealed by the Counterforce, there's a hard limit on how much energy can be converted at a time. However, if it was the Excalibur from 12000 years ago when it was unsealed, it would've obliterated everything including Ea, as it instantly destroyed an extraterrestrial giant that decimated thousands of gods and was literally about to kill all life in the planet. Anyway, back to the topic, Gae Bolg was allowed to go through the full course of its attack, but in the end it didn't have enough power to break through the last layer. However Excalibur was obliterated Aias's layers like ten seconds into its beam attack, if Salter was allowed to continue Rho Aias would've been destroyed no doubt.
