This group changed Acapella forever when they won the first "Sing Off" TV show. They are the only Acapella group to win a Grammy Award. The first singer here was Scott who is the lead but he can sing Bass, Baritone, Lead, Tenor, amazing range. Avi (the bearded one) is one of the most phenomenal basses of all time. Unfortunately he left the group for a solo career a few years ago. The three in the middle Mitch, Kirsti, and Scott grew up together and have been singing together since elementary school. Enjoy the ride....

Welcome to the world of PTX! If you do Sound of Silence next, you'll notice the bass singer changed. The bass in this video, Avi, left the group in 2017 and was replaced by Matt but the other four members have not changed, although Mitch (countertenor) changes looks frequently and you may not recognize him. I do highly recommend Sound of Silence but also recommend Daft Punk (one of their 3 Grammy's) but you can't go wrong with whatever you pick.
@libertarianguy55674 жыл бұрын
You forgot Bohemian Rhapsody. Brings out Kevin's (Beatboxer) talent as a beatboxer. I would recommend staying with the pre 2017 stuff first. While Matt is an amazing bass, Avi is just next level good. Note: Mitch (Tenor) has a tendency to change his look a lot, but he is the tenor that has been with the group since the beginning. Same with Kirsten (Mezzo Soprano), she keeps dying her hair, blonde, then back to her natural brunette (and blue in Daft Punk). All 6 of these guys are amazing (including both Matt and Avi). And if you like the bass, try out Home Free's Ring of Fire featuring Avi Kaplan. Between Tim and Avi, you get more bass than you can handle. Both of them have fried speakers with their low notes.

'The Best Of PTX' ... imo: "Mary Did You Know?" - rich, gorgeous harmonies; beautifully done verses (each one is done as a solo, & they *all* get their piece, including Kevin the beat-boxer!); and the visual presentation is both simple and powerful! "Bohemian Rhapsody" - an *amazing* rendition of this challenging and delightful song ... it's obvious that they put a ton of effort into the video, but you really feel that they enjoyed doing it! "Sound Of Silence" - an *amazing* performance of a wonderful classic with such a powerful message, presented simply so that you focus on the song and their performance of it! "Say Something" - their beautiful rendition of a very good and very popular 'pop' song raises it to a whole other level! This intricately arranged and presented performance is almost *literally* mesmerizing, with layering that rewards repeated viewing (plus you get to experience Kevin *both* beat-boxing *and* playing the cello - which he does *so* well!) IMO, these four - along with "Hallelujah" - are their best! But they do have *plenty* of other great performances! *Enjoy!* P.S.- The group 'Home Free' is another amazing a cappella 5-some! Their performance of "How Great Thou Art" is a stunning tour-de-force of beautiful sounds *and* visuals! I think I can guarantee that you'll *really* enjoy it!

IMHO there are many reactors on KZbin. Of course, we have our own opinions about reactions in general. The good, the bad and the ugly. But, there is one thing that stands out to me. These reactors are the best of the best. You are one of those in the bestest category. My reasoning is simple in one respect; that being I WANT to go back and listen to your reactions again. Many times; like 6 minimum. That is also because the reactor is "expressing" their feelings and you cannot fake that. Enough already. BTW it is May 17th 2022 and I'm the only one making comments more than once. Love ya Sabina. Be safe.

That last note always gets me. Huge old Pipe Organ in a giant cathedral. :) MOST of what they do is acapella but there are songs where their beatboxer, Kevin, also plays cello. They also have collaborated with other performers, including with Lindsey Stirling a couple of times. Lindsey is a violinist and she can dance at the same time as she plays. She's awesome on her own, too but for me the collab covering Radioactive was golden.
@rlhcat76624 жыл бұрын
I love it when singers react to them. You know how difficult this is to do, and they are just as amazing live. They have toured worldwide for years, almost all a capella. The beatboxer, Kevin, on the far left in this video, is an amazing cellist, and plays cello on a few of their songs. The three middle singers, the tall guy, the girl and the guy with the hat, have known each other and sang together since before high school. They asked Avi (bass) and Kevin to join them to go on a TV competition show in 2011 - which they ended up winning, although they performed their first song as Pentatonix for the audition! The talent here is very deep, and they are all passionate, which is what comes through every time you hear them. FYI - the wonderful bass singer, Avi Kaplan, left the group in late 2017 due to personal reasons, and they have had a new bass, Matt, since then. Avi has continued with a solo career, and he is well loved and appreciated by his old PTX fans. Check out Imagine, or Havana (with Matt) or Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (one of their 3 Grammy winners).

Their Original song, "Run To You", will wreck your soul in the very best way possible. Background on the song: It was written by Kevin[the beatboxer/cellist/singer/etc] and Avi(pronounced Ah-vee)[the bass singer]. It is the first original song the group has ever done. The group had to practicing singing backwards in order to film parts of the video because they need the petals to seem like they were rising in some parts. There is more that I could say, but I believe that seeing and hearing for yourself would be even better.

Thank you for the great reaction. Pentatonix is amazing. Many of the "Vocal Coaches" do reactions to their songs and give a very technical breakdown of how they achieve their "sound". It is true that they are all talented singers. But in my opinion it is in their "backstory" where the true magic lies. Scott, Mitch and Kirstin all grew up together in Texas and have been singing together since they were 8 to 10 years old. They have a lot of practice together and have become best friends to each other. But that friendship turned to LOVE and that is where the magic comes from. They know each other on a very deep level and the arrangements of their songs are specifically made to take advantage of this fact. Their harmonies are legendary. I hope you continue to react to their large body of work. Thanks again.

I enjoyed your reaction very much. You are very articulate and all of your comments, both verbal and written , were an enunciation of what we all feel when we listen to this performance. I remember this first time I heard Leonard Cohen, Who wrote it, perform it. He was not a great singer but what came through in his singing was the emotional attachment he had to the music.(He heard this version before he passed away and said it was the best version he'd heard, at least that has been reported and I believe taped) We get that from PTX which is a big reason why so many people love them. We get that from you as well. As intrigued as I was by your comments there was a whole "other" portion to your reaction. I went back and watched again with the audio turned off. Your expressions during the performance were so "in tune" (pardon the pun) with what you were hearing and seeing we were given some insight into what you were feeling and it was so very congruent with what we were feeling . . .well, I cannot speak for others so, there was this concordance with I felt that it was one of those moments of connectedness that is a kind of magic. It was almost like a PTX harmony. Differences coming together but retaining their differences and yet blending. This without hearing you or them. It is a gift and I thank you deeply for that.
