I really liked Sable and I had a lot to say about the lore so I decided to make this video speculating it. This is the first time I've done anything like this so I'm sorry if it sucks. I feel like there's so much to talk about with this game, and I wanna make more videos in the future, so this is just a general video to get my ideas out. I'm sorry about the fuzzy audio.

The radiation given off from the damaged terraformers could have mutated the fauna shortening the time needed for them to change so much.

There's a few questions I keep coming back to 1. What happened to the hydrology of the area? We see a hydroelectric dam early on that's obviously been abandoned for a long time as well as several abandoned settlements that suggest that at some point the area had significantly more water than it is now. 2. What is producing the Oxygen that people are breathing? What we see is too arid to support abundant plant life and we see no indications of oceans (though admittedly Sable may be taking place in the planet's equivalent of the Gobi Desert). Is there an Atmosphere factory somewhere (like in the John Carter books)?

I never thought about the hydrology across the map but I did notice that the area seemed pretty barren, my thinking is that once The Whale crews were able to begin living freely on the planet they reproduced at a somewhat stable rate, probably a pretty high rate considering all of a sudden they're free to do just about whatever they want, until reaching a sort of ecological maximum population. At this point the resources began declining until they got to the point they're at during the main story of the game. I think once the resources reached this point they kept the population fairly consistent over the years, and this is why the humans were never really able to get a big hustling bustling city going. The oxygen, I think, was produced by the terraforming that took place when the ships first landed. They could have had massive drills that bore down to find water already buried beneath the surface of the planet, and then either planted their own plants or further developed the existing flora to produce lots of oxygen. The terraformers also could have brought the water with them. I'm guessing the planet already had an atmosphere because of the massive skeletons that must have existed way before the ships ever landed, but it may have been an atmosphere with too much of any one gas, so further balance was required. The terraformers may have been atmosphere factories that released massive amounts of o2, along with radiation, until the planet was self sustaining. Could be anything, really, but these are my thoughts.

What a fantastic video! I'm close to finishing the game in the next couple days and have been loving trying to piece together the lore and story but found the ship logs and the watch too lacking. This video was perfect, filled in all the blanks and now I feel so clued in to the game. So, thank you for making this video! It's been a real help and was also very entertaining and well made. The narration was spot on and I though for sure after finishing the vid, that I'd scroll down to find a channel with many more subscribers and regular uploads. Well done for the impressive video!

Just finished the game and of course, was thinking about the history and lore of the world. Really enjoyed watching your takes on it. I ended up choosing the atomic mask as I felt it could be a way for Sable to pave a new way in the world and possibly find a way (or start finding a way) to somehow reconnect with Earth.

Nice video! What do you think about the Crystal Farmers? I think they are fascinating!

Thanks! I'm also really interested in them. I haven't thought too much about it because they don't seem to have a lot of answers to any of the questions I might think up. So far I think they've been in the crystal plateaus at least as long as the humans have been there, if not longer. I'm guessing the neverending storm has something to do with the perpetual. I also think the Whale's crash could've been what disabled their farming robots if they were there at the time. I've thought at times that they might be humans who hyper evolved because of the lightning crystals, but I don't really think that's what they are, because then I wouldn't know what disabled the farmer-bots.

Hey man! I see you've stopped making these brilliant videos two years ago, unfortunately. If you're still interested in debating Sable, there's a relatively new thread on Steam where we're trying to put everything together (YT doesn't let me link it here, but it's called "Lore (Major SPOILERS, don't open if you haven't played the game to the end)"). I just referred to your videos there. Among other things, we unveiled the meaning of the ships' names and their link to London's Brutalist architecture. Incredibly fascinating.

Theyres a log where they mention begin terraforming, I assumed they were always going to terraform, crash landed , and so terraformed but terraforming released all the energy

this is the first video i watched of you. i liked it. i think i can help you with sound mastering. volume is all over the place. make sure speech hovers around -20dB and -12dB during the most intense narration. music should be significantly lower, like -32dB and lower . except when you finish or start with a title card, then it can be as loud as -12dB. if you ever want to include screaming, never go above -6dB. hope this helps you

Amazing video I recently got into shadow of the collasus and wanted to revisit this game cause it's the only other game I can think of that also has similar exploration and feeling of being in a foreign environment. What was the song you used towards the end of the video?

Here's some speculation for you: The setting is Kharak earlier in its history, already experiencing technological regression but before completely forgetting its origins. Sable is a proto-Gaalsien

I appreciate the video, but I feel that the world building is not in-depth enough and too vague to say anything for sure. Any way you role it, there are a plethora of possible holes that open up. If the Hicaric are predecessors of the current humans, they'd likely have to be dominant civilization, because all architecture shares the same style, that on the other hand doesn't explain, why people suddenly decide to revert back to older tech at some point. This would also cause trouble, since the planet sized space station that orbits around the sun is either the mothership of the whale, that seems to have never sent out a search party but stayed there long enough for the Hicaric to incorporate it into the Watch, or a Hicaric necropolis or enclave in space. And to round it all of, the spaceships that can be found are, aside from crash damage, in too mint of a condition to have survived enough time for a civilization to collapse, even if it got hurried along by a cataclysm of ecological proportions. If the Hicaric are aliens that look like humans, then this would check out with the tech that is in use and the architectural constancy. The crash could be closer to game-time and the state of the wrecks would also appear more plausible. This however would make it necessary, that those massive robots the crystal collectors used to have worked an unspecified amount of time after the Hicaric disappeared, since there is no hint of any human-Hicaric conflict and the script used in Eccria conflicts stronger, the younger the crash is, since it seems to adhere to the stylings of Hicaric carvings of the glowy kind. But this kind of misses the point of the game, I think.

The likes are at 69 (March 2022) so I'm not gonna leave a like, but loved the video anyways! I've been enjoying playing sable so much, and while I just finished all the quests, it feels like I still have a lot of explorring to do. Your theory proved some of my speculations right and made me appreciate the world of Sable more!
