"Once positioned, your apparent gentleness immediately turns into a frightening threat to your opponent. He can only see you, the last rampart separating him from your owner, he is hypnotized. He forgets everything and only focuses on you. Then begins a waltz of blades, his trying to break you, and you, twirling with all your soul to stay alive because the slightest touch would destroy you. Like a cat chasing a mouse, it tries to capture you, the line. Above, below, inside, outside, you dance lightly, continuing to taunt him. Despite all of his trainer's instructions, he doesn't catch you. You got it, you're in his head. He feels it, he knows it, you're going to pierce him. So in the end, who was the cat?" -Ode to the Line, Bolade Apithy

Ref question. Fencer A attacks and falls short, recovers forward and launches a new "offensive action" at the same time Fencer B launches an offensive action. Ref calls it Fencer A attack no, Fencer B counterattack yes (or attack Yes). We all get this, provided Fencer B does nothing to stop or go backwards. Any forward motion on his part is going to give him priority after Fencer A fell short. But with line... Fencer A attacks and falls short, immediately recovers and puts out line, and Fencer B has to respect it by beating it or totally avoiding it. Why? Simply put, a fencer who falls short on an attack and makes an immediate remise has no priority over the opponent who does anything to look remotely offensive, such as advancing. But the fencer who falls short on the attack and immediately pops up to put out a line means the opponent does not have priority, even as they immediately advance. Note that I'm basing this on plenty of KZbin videos that show the opponent having to get rid of the line established by the fencer who just fell short. Thank you.

This is not about refereeing, but about the Situations when a Fencer uses Line. If A attack no, A will normally use Line if B is not able to pick up the right of way immediatly (for example: B Speeded Backwards an needs 2-3 Steps to stop After A finished the attack). If A fully extends his Arm before B is able to establish his own attack, it is counted as Line from A. If there is no real chance of getting the line, most fencers wont do it and try a counterattack instead.

Also, Fencers often "accept" a Line and act as the defendent against it even if it is not necessary. This is for twoe reasons: First at all, when you retreat after a failed attack and you are approaching a opponents line, you cannot be entirely sure if the line is correct or incorrect. Second, by rushing forward against a line you risk attacking to late and getting one light against you. So you stop and calm down to clear the situation. If you do this, you are in preparation - not attack - and the opponents line counts.

Can someone explain 1:25? How does the right fencer have priority? Thanks.
