What I love is the clear comparision of the original Journey to the West novel, relative to Black Myth's in-game interpretation. No one else goes into such storytelling, including superimposing images or clips of the characters from other Sun Wukong media (80's tv series, 90's movies, etc), providing an 'Ask Historians'-esque context. The story in this chapter is deeper. The whole narrative technique is narration, and the slices are very confused. There are past events, events in the middle of Journey to the West, events in the Heavenly Palace with the Bull Demon King, events in which the Bull Demon King and his wife broke up because of their children, and now the hatred between the Red Child and the Bull Demon King. Many Chinese people can't understand it at first. You can understand that this degree is really powerful.

I think Bull King was forced to marry Lady Rakshasi as punishment for fighting with Wukong, as a scheme to create the Red Boy. That's why she was saying something about "our separate lives in peace if not for that monkey" in the Chapter 5 animated vid.

I think she means because of that monkey, their family is separated. After the pilgrims defeated them and Red Boy has been taken away by Guanyin.

I got three questions: One, if they’re called the Five Element Carts, where are each of them in the game and what are their names? Two, what is the name of the previous Yaksha King? I search it up and it said it was a deity named Kubera. And three, is Rakshasi a Rakshasa or Yaksha?

I didn't remember their locations correctly. You can check it out in the characters 's descriptions or here: blackmythwukong.fandom.com/wiki/Five_Element_Carts Five elements wood, fire, earth, metal, water which correspond to 5 organs liver, heart, pancreas, lung, kidney for Red boy's cultivation. Yaksha's king is Kubera. In both Hindu and Buddhist as I know. Rakshasi is the princess of the Rakshasa Kingdom. Rakshasa women in human form are called Manushya-Rakshasi. They are usually considered beast-like and feast on humans. Yakshas look pale, similar to the Top Takes Bottom, Bottom Takes Top yaoguai. We encounter them often throughout the game because their kingdom was destroyed. However, I couldn't find any strong evidence to confirm whether the Rakshasa Kingdom fell due to Buddhist forces.

Their exact name is "The Seven Sages". These titles are self proclaimed. They formed a brotherhood early in the novel but rarely mentioned later in the story so there are not many articles about them. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Journey_to_the_West_characters#Others The Seven Sages (七聖) are a fraternity of demon kings who become sworn brothers with Sun Wukong early in the novel. They are Bull Demon King (牛魔王), Jiao Demon King (蛟魔王), Peng Demon King (鵬魔王), Lion Camel King (獅駝王), Macaque King (獼猴王), and Long-Tailed Marmoset King (禺狨王).

They were mainly mentioned in chapter 3 and 4 in the novel except for the Bull Demon King, right after the part where Sun Wukong got his weapon and before the part where Taibai Jinxing came persuade Wukong to accept Heaven's offer the second time. After Wukong defeated Nezha, they came celebrate. Wukong said since he called himself ""The Great Sage Equal to Heaven", they might as well call themselves "Great Sage" too. So they all make up titles for themselves. They were kinda more like drinking buddies in the novel than alliances.

around 11:30 how can Red Boy ask for the relic if this is during the original JTTW when Rakshasi is surrendering the fan and Bull King doesn't have Wukong's relic yet? Is it a plot hole or is the plantain fan the "relic" he's asking for at this point?

These scenes like the Bull King recalling all the injustices that befell his family, lead to his moment of rage. These events did not occur at the same time and are the the game's lore. - The scene where Rakshasi tells the Bull King, "If not for that monkey, we could have lived in peace," she means that their family being separated, happened after the pilgrims defeated them and Red Boy has been taken by Guanyin. - The scene where Red Boy asks for the relic happens after he leaves his discipleship with Guanyin and learns of his origins. The Bull King has to chain him and imprison him in Bishui Cave.

@@Williamsweeb got it, so the order in which the montage is shown isn’t chronological. It’s a bit confusing since Bajie saying he killed the fox princess (which was in JTTW) seems to be the last straw but the stuff they show before that all happened as a result?

@@Pingbo97 I think so. All those things combined finally pushed him to a breaking point. He has always been reluctant until that moment. But his enrage against Wukong's force led to his subjugation. All his life seems to be a series of bad decisions like Wukong said. I also got confused a bit about these details when playing, because in JTTW the confrontations with Red Boy and Bull King occurred in different time and location. FYI if you are interested in the novel, In the ending animation Wukong mentioned a brother of Bull King. He is Immortal Ruyi, a Taoist appears in Kingdom of Women. He guards the Spring of Abortion. When the journeyers travel to the kingdom, they accidently drink from the Child Bearing river and get pregnant. They need water from Spring of Abortion but Ruyi refused so that's why Wukong beat him.

@@Williamsweeb In the Journey to the west, Sun wukong beat red boy with Guanyin Bodhisattva and red boy was taken way by Guanyin Bodhisattva, then suwukong go to the flame montain meet Rakshasi (bull king's wife) , fox Princess (bull king's concubine) and Bull demon king. Bajie kill the fox Princess. After Journey to the west, the red boy been told that he is the King Yaksha's last Descendant then he decide to get the one of the relic from his adoptive father Bull demon king after sun wukong's dead

Different immortals fight for their respective factions. From their perspective, they don't see themselves as wrong. However, there's a saying, "When gods fight, it's the little people who suffer," which reflects the helplessness of ordinary people.
