Thank you for the video. The real question is how do you differentiate between them? We all have a bunch of hdmi cables and not all of them has the version written on the cable. For example, I have one saying “High Speed HDMI Cable”.

It does seem a bit odd that you describe DVI as an analogue interface that predates HDMI. DVI can carry digital signals as well as analogue, so you can convert VGA to DVI-A or convert HDMI to DVI-D using simple cables.

Yes technically you are correct about DVI, I was referring to VGA and DVI-A (I should have been more specific in the beginning of the video but I think most understood the opening to the discussion of HDMI) and also DVI does predate HDMI

What is the impact of having lower vs. higher framerate on a TV? My amp blew up, and I have to decide on whether to get a new one or a used one. I've found some that are HDMI 1.4....but my TV is 4K, and from the video's commentary, it appears that my frame rate would be half of what it was with my amp that blew up....I'd be going from 2.0 back down to 1.4. In terms of what the "experience" would be, would I see a difference?

What about Display Port to HDMI adapter?. I'm wondering if the adapters downgrade the performance instead of just using a full cable having Display port to HDMI. But I know it would be a down grade if using a HDMI to Display Port but if the Display Port was plugged in first to that Display Port going out= (Output) then to the Monitor or TV = (Input) HDMI port it would be better. BUT I wonder if that would damage the TV or monitor latter down the line. I'm saying this might damage because it's forcing to change the design of voltage coming from the Display Port to the design of the Input HDMI port. I am not sure if Display Port has the same Voltage design as the HDMI.

Yes you can 👍 HDMI 2.0 is backwards compatible with HDMI 1.4 but remember you will not the the HDMI 2.0 benefits until you upgrade your device that has a HDMI 2.0 port

You don’t need hdmi 2.0 unless you want to run 120hz at 1440p. You can run 120hz at 1080p with the 1.4.

It's about bandwidth. You can exchange one thing for another. So you could do 8k 1000hz on hdmi 1.0. But to keep the bandwidth down you have black and white only. Must of the hdmi upgrades are about standards and testing. In reality what goes into the cables it about the same but if you put it all together better you can send high data speeds without dropping signal intergraty.

Depends on what resolution you want to run. If it’s 1080 you only need 1.4 to run 120hz. But if you wanted to run 1440p at 120hz you’d need the hdmi 2.0

Don't buy HDMI 1.4 cables, period. It will not support UHD for a monitor, no matter what anyone says. You can get 2.1, 48 Gbs, for under 10 US$ and it does the job.
