This was such a fun and laid back Tiny Desk. It was great because without the bigger stage production, we really got to see her let go and show a lot of her personality. Concerts of this scale are my favs because without the showier stage performance that incorporates way more than just singing, it allows the performer to lean more into singing with more fullness, and play with facial expression and different diction techniques (which really can make a difference in how one sings). Sabrina, her band, and her music arranger did a great job balancing that laid back folk-feel with the groovy pop playfulness and humor, and also having moments of tenderness. The instrumentation was so good with the strings and the slide guitar.

24:06 You had me cackling with the vodka joke istg 😂 Maybe the first one is cold water because of the blue straw..? I was thinking maybe the 2nd one is warm water to help soothe the vocal folds, but I'm not sure since it looks like a plastic water bottle. Idk if you've ever tried to put warm water in a water bottle, but it starts to deform and fog up. Maybe the 2nd one has something like throat coat in it. I know RAYE sipped on throat coat during her tiny desk, I'm sure lots of artists do. Also, I think I like this version of her songs better. Her voice - esp in Slim Pickins - is so nostalgic for me. It reminds me of female country artists that I grew up listening to with my mom, lots of Dolly and imho some Loretta Lynn too. I hope Sabrina puts out an acoustic session album at some point! Her twang in this tiny desk lives in my head rent free now.
@ChibiTatertot18 күн бұрын
The non-blue straw aka 2nd bottle in that time stamp is a regular room temp water bottle. I thought the blue straw had to do with something for steam for the throat, thinking maybe the blue straw was a new portable advance technology nebulizer/steamer. So I did a bit of research on this, but its actually a phonation straw that "helps the vocal folds vibrate efficiently" I guess (I'm not an expert just what I found the item to be). I even scoured the internet to find the straw she is using and the closest thing that I could find is the "Voice Straw H20" by Mindy Pack, who happens to be a celebrity vocal coach

This was one of my favorite Tiny Desks just because everyone seemed to be having so much fun. I feel like her tone is so similar to Ariana's because both of them have a lower speaking voice but they have a crazy range that can adjust to sounding higher than their speaking voice. Good Graces is like a song that I feel like both of them can sing. And I always think of the live performance Ariana did with The Weeknd on Save Your Tears because that's the lowest I've ever heard her voice! Those vibrato comments are so stupid btw. Tomato tomahto veebrato vibrato 😂 I think people are trying to say Sabrina sounds like Shakira but those are both totally different things.

It’s so nice how positive this specific musical reviewer/voice trainer is. Ppl who don’t understand/know things about singing or only like one type of music are so critical of her. I am not a country person, so I am not into the twang as much, but I respect that she is able to convey many different genres. I also think she’s either an excellent actress or has such confidence and thick skin. Ppl are mean and she continues to be kind, herself, and humorous. This really serves her.

6:17 this is true ) (shes still and Soprano maybe lowerset) but There is a noticeable difference in Sabrina's overall tone and quality in her recent albums and performances compared to her earlier work, such as in her song "Sue Me." Where her voice is noticeably darker not lower despite being younger then During her tour, there are moments when she completely drops her light, girlish voice and returns to her original style. For instance, when she sang "Ain't No Other Man" with Christina Aguilera.

This is pure speculation but I think she likes how slim pickins sounds with her voice and wants Juno to succeed. The other 4 are the singles, those are gonna be performed. But then you maybe start to think what could be a 5th single, and everything on stage feels like it's designed to push Juno. Like Sabrina is trying to get it to go as viral as possible. She has 4 moments in her tour that can go viral, and 2 of them are part of Juno. And so then that leaves no time for anything else when even the most outstretched show she can do short of an actual concert is 6 songs
