The Su Yari (straight spearhead) will almost always be superior to the Hadome, katakana or Jumonji yari (trident). The trident style is only good for dismounting samurai on horseback. The small, stubby blade of the straight spear is good for penetrating armour and being used in mass formation to create a defensive wall against a mounted charge.
