Thanks for this. Today I was working on a five speed Pentasport and saw the little dots on the planetary gears. I figured they were timing marks but could not find any info on them except here.

Yes, I have. I often replace cables and shifterboxes. It is always a problem at winter when cables are freezing.

Yes. Actually, I think I should have said NLGI 00 semi fluid. If the hub does not have a coaster brake, you could safely lube it with a light oil such as ATF, but once you convert it to oil lube, you will need to replenish it regularly, like once a year. If it has a coaster brake, I would stick with grease.

Thanks for the comment. For advice on greasing see comments below. Don't think teflon grease is necessary but it probably won't hurt anything.

Normally you use the following tool: SRAM Mounting Tool Super7/S7 Coaster Brake - Red the blue one is for the old 5 speed Pentasport

Just one word of caution. Regular wheel bearing grease is fine for the bearings, but far too viscous for the internal workings. You need 0 grade semi fluid grease for that.

you really helped me aut with this video :) im wondering why almost noone else is doing a professional video like yours. this days im working on a sram super 7 witch is similar to the spectro 7. i´ll try to clean it with gasoline used for cleaning purposes and then regrease it. do i really need some grease with teflon in it or can i use grease for bearings too? what would be your advice? have a good day, your Oliver D..

Like I said in the video, I know there is a tool for this, but what I demonstrated is that it is not necessary. getting that tool, or any Sachs/Sram gearhub parts on this side of the Atlantic is pretty much impossible.

No. If you need more ratio range, the 5 speed is a good option.

On my bike I've got those gears. At the beginning they worked perfectly, but now. They just don't want to change... it's stuck on I don't know, maybe 4-th gear and it can't change... any advice how can I fix that ?

Hard to diagnose something like that on the internet, but I'd start with the simple stuff first. Make sure the click box is attached to the axle properly. Check that shift cable housing is properly seated in the stops.

Вероятно, у вас неправильно установлена длина троса при его замене. Должно быть 90мм от зажима троса в кликбоксе и до пластиковой гайки на оболочке троса. Далее обматываете тросом барабан кликбокса и взводите его пружину по часовой стрелке на один оборот.

I checked, they really have to be phased/timed. But why? Aren't the theeth evenly spaced? If the theeth are evenly spaced how can it matter what position you put it in? It shouldn't make any difference.

When there is a single sun gear and single planet pinions, it doesn't matter. When there are multiple sun gears with planet pinions of different size on the same shaft, if it were a single shaft, it wouldn't matter. But, when you introduce multiple pinion shafts all meshing with the sun gears of varying size, it matters a great deal. If you closely inspect a planetary shaft, you will see the timing marks correspond with a point where the teeth on the a joining gears are aligned. This creates a common return point which is necessary in this case so the gearbox doesn't bind up as I demonstrated. I'm sorry if that isn't clear enough, it's the best way I can think of to explain it.
