They used an ancestry site. I dont know why she is so secret about it. They found a family tree and then zeroed in on him. She makes it sound like its a new technique. Its just someone thinking outside the box. They followed him around for 4 months waiting for him to leave DNA. She is a crappy person to interview. Also some of the questions she would have no clue. She was a kid. And yes the sketches are similar to him, he is just a younger guy. I grew up in Citrus Heights. So I have been following this case.
@judyberends45866 жыл бұрын
I thought you knew Wow ! that is weird to live so close to him. I have questions about his ESTRANGED WIFE .Where was she all those years ?. I hope they don't drop the ball. They need to follow all the leads .Lots of people haven't even been interviewed yet that could be his victims . I think Megan asked the right questions but the D.A. didn't know much or didn't want to answer them.
@muserussell23775 жыл бұрын
Why was that considered outside the box? It almost seems like common sense to me
@CurtisDensmore15 жыл бұрын
I believe the new technique allowed them to identify relatives of the donated DNA.
@scoooter784 жыл бұрын
At the time they uploaded the killers DNA to GEDMatch to see if he had any relatives in their database that could be identified. They found some, built a family tree, cut it down to possible killers, then snatched used tissues / drink bottles from these people to confirm it. She could't say anything at that time as it had just happened and they were still working out whether the breached the T&C of that site. E.g. did the people who uploaded their DNA authorise it to be used this way? They needed to cover all their bases before explaining to the public (and probably GEDMatch) what happened.
@paulcompme8563 жыл бұрын
I guess you have not heard about ancestry sites; They are scam sites that have no real ancestry accuracy at all. There is however one thing you can be sure of and that is “The Results”. Whatever results you receive from any of these ancestry sites, you can be sure that they are not true and accurate.
@Samuel-dc2mq6 жыл бұрын
a family member was arrested and came up as a partial match to the golden state killer. They used a genealogy website to find who most likely would be related to the family member and age appropriate and surveilled him till they were able to obtain some discarded DNA in his trash. Once they got that they had enough for a warrant and a direct sample. Its going to be interesting to see what happens in court. That is why the DA is choosing her words so very carefully.

Also it doesn’t necessarily mean that law enforcement setup the dna profile that hit. Amateur sleuths, investigative journalists (Michelle) all looked into this being how to get him. I’m just speculating, they will have to explain how they got his name soon
@OB1.Benobie6 жыл бұрын
Stefanie B no but they used it to build, create, manipulated, innovate, a Dna sequence since they already had the killers dna on profile, they took this man's partial profile, and used what they had of the killers to combine both dna sequences together. Meaning they made it fit by innovative techniques, ultimately framing him. Is it really that hard to see.

@brittanysouthworth39556 жыл бұрын
I believe that it is due to familial dna becoming a recent tactic for finding killers. One of his family members could have been incarcerated, they got a familial dna match and then they knew it was someone from the family and narrowed it down.
@lemonlimesnout6 жыл бұрын
Rae Caliguri the investigation is still ongoing. They had his dna profile but no identity attached to it. Plus unless youre a juror, judge, or lawyer for this man, you won't be able to know all of the exact details of the investigation. All will be revealed after he has been sentenced.
@rosep84816 жыл бұрын
Rae Caliguri what the DA wasnt saying is that the ‘innovative DNA techniques’ they used was to research DNA databases from those 23&me sites. A family member of his had had that DNA testing done. That persons DNA was statistically similar enough to the killers that they began looking at members of the family. They came up with the killer by doing that. Then they had a warrant to collect his DNA from items in his trash. It was a perfect match
@Samuel-dc2mq6 жыл бұрын
close but no warrant was needed or issued to surveil him and collect the abandoned DNA from his trash.

Rae Caliguri @Brittany Southworth explained it very well, and she is exactly correct. it was familial DNA, which is a bit controversial, ethics-wise, and perhaps not the MOST legal thing that can be done lol. and that's the reason why she was beating around the bush in this interview.

That's not farfetched. Familial DNA matching is a new tech. He's been in the CODIS for eons with no matches, because he doesn't commit crimes that will put him in the system. It only makes sense that they decided to use familial DNA (either criminally or through and ancestry site). You used normal, rational, basic deduction--based on information that is readily available. And it was a smart, well conceived deduction at that!!! Why are people freaked out by admitting that they've been thinking, these days?! It's driving me bonkers. I challenge you to think a WHOLE lot more, and start looking PAST the obvious/what they want you to see--to the underlying subtext. You say something about that, and then you'll really be thinking ;)

His relative was on a ancestry. Com website, and because of proposition 69 in California, his relative was seeing what nationality he came from and sent in his DNA for testing which pinged their data base as an ancestry match, which led police to his door. There ya go. That's how they were led to him, and took his DNA. Due to a ancestry match. A son or other family member. Patton Oswald wife didn't put anything in that book that ppl didn't already know about him. Dna and police work caught him, not her book. Lol, she kept the case alive, but so did a lot of other ppl in the true crimes world that weren't married to a famous comedian, but no one is giving them credit. Lol DNA DID IT.
@OB1.Benobie6 жыл бұрын
I can almost guarantee that if it was this man, I bet, most of these crimes occurred, while he was on duty. Therefore the victims should file a federal lawsuit against the police departments, for what they endured, damages, and for the loss of loved ones. Especially it being a police officer on duty, raping, and killing innocent people. It being one of their own, would make it possible for a class action lawsuit.

@donnanhuggler84514 жыл бұрын
This is a pathetic interview.... 1) the killer left DNA on the bodies years ago that was collected and saved. 2) modern DNA databases from random citizens (who are looking to have some medical procedures unrelated to crime are on file.) 3) they search randomly for DNA profiles that contain 99% similar DNA profiles and match them to the DNA that was left on the bodies years ago (such as a mother, a son , a cousin, a brother, a sister) and whiddle down who it may be RELATED to. 4) once they think they know who it might be based on the 99% match, they follow that suspect around until they discard something (like a bottle of coke or a glass of water or a napkin) and finally compare that to the original DNA left on the bodies. It’s not easy to explain, but it’s doable
