The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has returned the Sacramento perch to its namesake city and county for the first time in many decades, stocking 3,000 of the native sunfish into a pond at Granite Regional Park to create a unique urban fishing experience. The experimental pilot program will study how the fish do in the former quarry pond now surrounded by office buildings, soccer fields and parking lots and how urban and suburban anglers take to this opportunity to catch a historic, heritage - and good eating - sport fish in their backyard.
