We were taught this printing process in junior high in the LA city schools. We were taught the California Job Case were you selected each letter of type to assemble each line to print. And we had a Linotype machine for larger jobs. They would have a sh**t hemorrhage today to have one of those is school near students. It had a cauldron of molten lead that fed the machine to form the letters as you typed them. And they had classes of other trades that are missing today.

These old printing ways are great, but computers and laser printers sure did speed things up

Yes, but books aren't printed by computer printers.
@ZaydDepaor2 ай бұрын
@@zyxw2000 I know but they use computers though...I really like these old machines and printing machines, but there is a tremendous amount of wasted ink....but just as in the case of the old typewriters as opposed to modern PC based word processing and printers, we don't know if that electricity will always be there... So there is still a role and some advantages with an old printing machine and an old manual-mechanical typewriter

Back in the day, how did they get hundreds of copies out and given to the kid who’d yell in the streets “EXTRA EXTRA, READ ALL ABOUT IT”? This process looks like it took forever!

Whoever edits these videos is clueless. Nobody wants you to speed up the videos, as the mundane aspect of this process is the entire aesthetic and reason people watch in the first place.
