Wow!! Thanks for this documentary! So many fond memories here. Attended from first grade to 8th grade (1976) Excellent education received! Lifetime friendships made. I always was in awe of the church.

Superb documentary. Proud graduate of SHS 1973. Sister Thadaeus and Sister Ellen both taught me and Sister Maureen was the Principle. Brought back lots if memories!

Thank you so much for creating this. My father was baptized in the original church, my uncle said his first mass here in 1935 shortly after being ordained and my parents were married here in 1943. Though they moved to North Arlington in the late 40's, we visited frequently when I was a child. I still have bookmarks with depictions of the stained-glass windows.

Thank you so much for posting this. I was a Sacred Heart parishioner from 1965 to 1985. I miss it dearly. Such a beautiful old church and a great school! I'm so glad the school is still doing well. I hope the church finds a sensitive new owner who will properly care for this historic structure. Did you know Ralph Adams Cram also designed the Princeton University Chapel and the Chapel at West Point?! Sacred Heart Church is a very fine and very important American Gothic structure.

I can never give Dan enough praise for making this historical film on our architectural,beautiful iconic Sacred Heart Church. This film brings back such wonderful memories . Our religious foundation, which defines our character , were developed at Sacred Heart Church and School.

My Aunt Katy (Sr Mary Imelda) taught there 1977-1979, My Grandmother Alice McCarthy (Aunt Katy sister) worked for the convent for years, I remember as a child getting to ring the dinner bell.... It was awesome... I got to know so many of the Nuns there.... This is very sad for me to see this closed... Both my Nana and Aunt are passed, and I had a very special relationship with them both.... Miss you So much....

I graduated from Sacred Heart School in 1948, I loved the school and the beautiful Church. I was married there in 1954. I lived on Bayview Ave and had a short walk to school and church. We would wait outside the school until the principal, a nun, would ring this large bell in her hand. The first clang of the bell meant to stop whatever we were doing and proceed to line up to go into the school. Then rang the bell again. Then we went to school and no talking. I think about the good times I had. We had the sisters of Charity as our teachers. I miss those days and I am 89 years old now. Dot Boisvert

My Father graduated from Sacred Heart I believe in 1952. My Father passed away in 2020 one year after my Mother passed from Lung Cancer. We moved to Hollywood Florida in 1973 prior to that lived in Nutley. I am now in Northern Florida.

Thank You and God bless you for such a heart warming story.I was the proud lector of its fine mini cathedral as I always called it for many years. I bet you don't remember how we used to cool the church on warm days? Blocks of ice in the basement with huge fans blowing the cool air up into church. Just a little history for you. Thank You.

YES INDEED. THE LAST TIME I SPOKE TO BOTH OF THEM WAS IN THE EARLY 90'S. CAN'T EXACTLY REMEMEMBER THE YEAR. THEY WERE SHOPPING AT STOP & SHOP IN BAYONNE. GOD LOVE THEM !!!!!!!!!!!

The pipe organ in Sacred Heart was by Geo. Kilgen & Son organ company of St. Louis, MO who also built the organs for St. Patrick's Cathedral NYC. It must have been magnificent and as it is still in the church should be dismantled, cleaned and stored until it can be repurposed in a new church home.

Gee, Heik, how things go round and round and connections come back! Literally, just was checking things up on JC (still doing stuff for St. Pat's) and figured I would look up SH and , here you are posting! In other words, no matter how far we get from "duh Junkshun" or JaKsun Ahven-oo" we still wind up back in Greenville! The other odd reflection of the 2 parishes is that SH Church is closed but School open. Well, SP church is open but the school is no longer (public charter place now).

In 2019, i went there because there was a school shooting. I go to scared heart school, the school next to the church. To be honest the inside of the church was super beautiful

That poor church needs massive repairs. Such a shame --- gone to rack and ruin. There are cracked and water damaged walls -- I saw no candles for an offering and I saw no holy water available.:( I was there yesterday and I couldn't believe what I was seeing.:( The church is still open. It isn't closed.
