On Saturday, 25 May 2024, we set off to meet some fishing friends at what we can call a "Sacred Fishing Spot". This was one probably one of my best as well as my worst day in ONE!!
At around 10h00 on this Saturday morning I set off on a +/- 4km walk to meet up with Hilmar and Travis. Obviously to cast a couple lines and see what nature is prepared to give us on this day.
The walk was one of my favorite experiences as the scenery was spectacular, WOW!
Upon arrival Travis has already proved this spot to be what they said it is and caught a Wildeperd Fish. After releasing it, I set up and made the first cast.
It wasn't long before I realized there's some really solid strikes and the chances of landing something edible for the day was HIGH.
After a cast or two I managed to hook a small Karenteen and then it seemed to quiet down a little, as is what to be expected during Mid-Day fishing.
Eventually we decided to shift to a new spot and upon locating another hole we can target some fish. Then it happened. My luck started turning from bad to worse as I kept on snapping lines to cast the distance I needed to.
Luckily this is also a good thing as this showed me the braid I was using at the time is inferior quality, and its time for a change.
Happily, as the clouds started to roll in and the Sun is starting to turn, facing east the fish came on the bite. During the small window of "Golden Hour" the guys landed plenty fish, and after dark I was blessed enough to see the most beautiful Bronze Bream get reeled in. This was, also only but one of the plenty that was caught during this session and I will most certainly make a return to this spot in the near future...
After dark we also managed to land a couple cat sharks as well as a small Spotted Gully Shark.
The fish caught for the day was, Galjoen, Streepie (Karenteen), Shad (Elf), Bronze Bream, and Wildeperd.
Sharks caught was, Spotted Gully, and Leopard Cat Shark, also a massive strike from what would be expected from a Spotty, but unfortunately snapped my line.
Once again I would also like to thank Hilmar and Travis for inviting me to fish this day with them and congratulate them on their trophy catches.
Fishing gear used for the day was;
Rod: Assassin Equinox 6-8oz
Reel: Daiwa BG8000
Rod: Blue Marlin Trueflex 360 2-4oz
Reel: Rovex Big Boss 8000
