In the book, the drug label was shown as a drawing so you knew THAT was going to come into play. The precise reasoning of why the killer did it isn't clear until it's revealed. The rest was a matter of ignoring false leads and coming back to that physical clue. The label meant the killer was a liar and we just needed to watch the logistics of the plan continue on.

I loved that this book kinda was a courtroom drama. It felt very different. On my edition of the book, there was a drawing of the "morphine" lavel and I DID notice the lower case M meant that was not really morphine, showing the ( insert murderer) had lied. And there was some vague mention of the (murderer) connected to Australia at some point, plus the mention of those roses having no thorn vs the prickled wrist.

Oh that's interesting! I didn't notice this because I listened to it -- usually I find the audiobooks pretty enjoyable but I only learned after listening to quite a few that Christie occasionally likes to throw in a nice hand-drawn clue for the reader to figure these things out. Nice work solving it.

Why didn’t Bob Gerrad ever mention Mary about aunt Mary. He never knew ?

Mike, what minor flaws did you notice in Sad Cypress? I would like to know and see if they match those that I've heard from others.

For me there were just a few aspects of the mystery that seemed like they'd be too hard for readers to figure out because they relied on information we couldn't have easily known or guessed. (I don't want to say them here but I talk about a few of them in the spoiler-filled second half of the video.) All in all though I liked the characters and found it a fun book!
