This is such an underrated Christie! it has some of my favourite tropes of hers. The secluded house, a large cast and some family dynamics.

"It's been hushed up very nicely, hasn't it? But he was murdered, wasn't he?" This would be one that I have read, hurrah :D

It’s a goody! I take it you enjoyed this one? I’m a little sad, because I think it’s the last really good book I have in this project 😂

I gave it a 4/5 at the time but couldn't remember it too much! Hey, are we still on for our buddy read of the autobiography? Do you wanna maybe drop me an email on danecobain@hotmail.com so I've got your email address?

I think you missed the obvious. You were talking about Christie's string female characters who loved their men more than the men loved them. What you missed is that this description fits Agatha and Col. Christie perfectly. He told Agatha that the woman he was leaving her for was the first time he's ever been in love. Yikes.

I always assumed that one of the reasons she writes a strong woman with weak men. Perhaps because both her husbands cheated on her and wasn't her first husband pretty horrible in how he ended their marriage to be with the other woman? Perhaps some of her own rage, embitterment, and frustrations in her marriages in showing up in her writing.

I really enjoyed this one, I never seem to see it in people's top 10 list

The adaptation of this one is definitely one I think of as being right up there with the best of them; it could've gone so badly, and it worked out so well. I enjoy rewatching it and noticing how it still stands up when you know the solution. And hahaha "but we're cousins!" always sticks out to me when I remember it too 😂 Plus Michael Fassbender... 😉 Haven't read the book for an age, really should pick it up again. I'm inspired by how much you enjoyed it. I seem to remember really liking Rosamund but thinking of her husband as a creep. I've always enjoyed those characters of hers who are able to put their fingers on the truth in that kind of innocent way. And when the novels contain seemingly normal situations where something just seems a bit "off" to everyone but they don't know why. These types of stories of hers are always enjoyable to me.

Uh, yeah- if Michael Fassbender was my cousin, I would be saying fuck it to laws of inbreeding too :) And yes, you remembered rightly that Rosamund's husband is one hundo percent a creep. She's way too fabulous for him, IMO, especially after she becomes an heiress. But... the heart wants what it wants, I guess

I liked this book up until the solution 14:00 interesting that you think Christie was unsympathetic to that attitude, when i thought she was pushing it in her work :s

Great review! I haven't read this one but I have watched the film adaption- Murder at the Gallop starring Margret Rutherford as Miss Marple- old as tea, easy to guess, but fun, you should watch it if you haven't already. Really want to read this one! I tend to read the Poirot's in any order- whichever takes my fancy, however, I read on the Agatha Christie website that Lord Edgewere Dies should be read before After The Funeral, do you agree with this and why? (please no spoilers!) Thanks!
@bookslikewhoa6 жыл бұрын
I think there is an oblique reference to Lord Edgeware Dies about midway through the book, but I can't remember if it's truly spoilery. I want to say it's not, but if you want to be careful, it would be no hardship to read Edgeware first. It's a great one! :)

Could you place subtitles in Spanish please? I would love to understand your video, I am a fan of Hercules Poirot

I'm sorry, I don't speak Spanish :(. I do have community subtitles on, so hopefully someone who does speak Spanish can add some subtitles for me! Thanks for watching!
