TODAY IN THE MOD SHOP WE HAVE BEEN WORKING ON THE VW GOLF MK2 RESTORATION PROJECT! IT WAS SUCH A FAIL!! WE HAD TO REMOVE OLD PARTS TO GET TO THE HEAD LINER WHICH WE WANTED TO RETRIM/REUPHOLSTER!! WE DIDN'T MANAGE TO GET THE ROOF LINER OUT OF THE MK2 GOLF IN ONE PIECE!!
THE VW TRANSPORTER T6 CAMPER VAN CONVERSION PROJECT ALSO GOT SOME MORE WORK DONE TODAY, WE REMOVED THE ROOF READY TO CARPET THE WHOLE INTERIOR! WE HAVE CARPETED THE CAMPER VAN AFTER HOURS AND WILL BE REVEALED SOON!!
THE R53 MINI COOPER S SUPERCHARGED TRACK CAR PROJECT HAS BEEN BOOKED ON FOR A TRACK DAY AT THE RACE TRACK WHICH WE ARE MASSIVELY EXCITED FOR!!
THE CUSTOM SANTA CRUZ DOWNHILL/ENDURO MTB HAS HAD NEW PARTS DELIVERED AND WILL BE FITTED IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE!!

I made this mistake with my freelander. Roof lining looked well shoddy. So out it came. But my god did it come out in pieces. NEVER going back in ha. Glad I’m not the only one that makes mistake. Keep up the good work bud

Hi, when you come to cutting the rear window out on the T6 best way it’s to cut through the straightening bar in the middle with a grinder then cut the rest out with a jig saw and cut from the inside it work for a company converting T6 ( Hillside leisure ) cut windows and roof out on this everyday!! Looking great so far 😀

Looking good mate. When you line the van make shore you de grease the van with brake cleaner before so the glue sticks. Start at the front and leave around 2" of lining at the top so it is hidden and looks seamless. Also when you glue it make shore you glue both sides (van and carpet) the wheel arches are the hardest to do but if u lift the carpet at the bottom and work it down then you will be able to work out the crease. Make shore you leave some extra on the floor so when the floor is in it will be all covered. 12v led spots look really good in the van and as it's all dark you will want at least 6. Glad you have taken on board the comments that I have made. Keep it up

A good way to fully carpet a van interior is to create wood interior panels for everything out of 1/8” or 1/4” plywood then once you have everything to shape pull them out and glue the carpet to them then reinstall. If your carpet has enough nap to it, it can hide the screw heads for the panels pretty well. Carpeted the interior of my ‘65 Chevy bus with shag this way. Also by making the panels removable and somewhat modular it is easier to fix or replace individual sections if the carpet gets damaged.

I have just retrimmed my Mk2 GTI headlining in charcoal acoustic cloth. Looks brilliant (or 'sick' as you'd say). The old ones never come out on one piece and always need sticking together with duck tape once out. You'd have got it out in fewer pieces if you'd removed the inner sunroof surround seal and A-post trims first. Once you have stuck the new cloth to it it will be a lot stronger so replacement is much easier. Still needs care and 2 people though. Don't rush it and you'll be fine. Trimming the sunroof panel is a bit trickier and requires the sunroof metal panel to be removed so you can remove the inner panel. Plenty of info online how to remove the sunroof. Again, key is not to rush it and be methodical.

I personally like the original plan of a diy respraythe best! I don't know why but it just seems like the right thing to do to me. And VW centre bores are 57.1mm. If the wheels you fit have a larger CB you can still run them but it is recommended that you rub 'spigot rings' as well. They are plastic rings that adapt the diameter of the hub to the same as the wheel. I run 57.1mm to 72mm on my vw with TSW wheels on. Hopefully that makes sense to you dude

I don’t know how it is in the uk but in the states it’s like impossible to find mk2 headliners in the states we usually end up fixing them with super glue and popsicle sticks 😂 I’ve had 4 mk2s and none of them have had headliners. Love the car though man good work.

Add some sound deadening to roof, makes a massive difference. Also after carpeting roof or side etc use a soldering iron to burn thru holes in carpet, makes it easier than trying to cut them out with knife 👍

You can use the wiring from the existing roof lights to wire up the led spotlights. space them out evenly, will look good. Also could make a ledge with led strips hidden under edge, will look cool

Vinyl best stuff to use is 3m air release vinyl. Stops any bubbles and much easier to apply.

The roof panel towards the front falls short of the trim due to bulkhead. Make another out of 3mm ply. Use existing panel as a guide to draw around and for the holes and add 1-2 inches on front edge. Should tuck nicely under trim then 👍

For future reference. If your using suede liner and decide to do cabin roof liner and a pillars have a look on A trim website. There stuff has a little stretch so no need for stitching.

Make sure you use heat proof spray adhesive, I know from experience, the one i used is from screwfix, cobra I think its called, this is what I used the second time when I retrimmed my zafira roof liner, the first time I used generic spray contact adhesive and within a week it was sagging bad.

I'd reccomend plasti dipping the golf, it's a happy medium between wrapping and painting, extremely easy to apply and even easier to remove, you can get all sorts of crazy/different colours and can even get gloss colours, just make sure you put at least 5-6 even coats on so it's easy to remove🤙🏼 oh and what ever you do, DO NOT ROLLER IT!😂 you'll honestly regret it!!

Harry watch guides on removal next time!!! MK2 headlinings aren't available new, and are a complete pain to remove and refit. You need A/B/C pillar trims out also. You can fix the black board with fibreglass, and re-trim accordingly.

@@harrymain lay the board on its back, pull the fabric off, tape the board back into position, use some sticks to hold it in place, flip it over and lay some fibreglass over the cracks. Once dry you can re-fit into the car.

Harry Main So I don’t know if you’ve seen when people have carpeted over a Volkswagen symbol. It makes the Volkswagen symbol stand out in the carpet. I’ve also seen it being done with Fox logos, and thought it could look quite cool if you did a ‘Mod Squad’ or ‘Mod Shop’ panel on your rear door.

Harry Main low mileage T4s are like gold dust😂 my T4 isn’t that good to look at but it’s an on going project and work on it in the garage where I work when I can.For your T6 try Vee dub transporters there have parts you might need for the T6 or try just kampers as well👍🏻

If you are going to cover the roof strips (2” wide plastic strips) paint them with plasticoat frost or the glue won’t adhere long term, the glue melts the top coat of the oe plastic. You also need a new mid roof panel or it will be short at the front where it meets the cab roof, and will sag in time as it won’t be supported by the roof strips.

Steps to removing mk2 headliner: A Pillars, B Pillars with seat belts, all grab handles, both sun visors, rear view mirror, centre light fixing, Rear speaker/parcel shelf supports, C Pillars and all central pop rivets that hold it into the roof supports. Actually has me creasing watching knowing I've been through the same thing and knowing exactly what you're going to have to do next after thinking you're good hahaha Also a point, most people when stripping a mk2 interior will end up fibreglassing inside all the weak parts because they are notoriously difficult to remove without breaking bits or snapping it within the material. Ended up just removing mine all-together and putting in a ragtop from a polo and adapting the stronger headliner to fit (y)

To be honest I have pushed out of doing that for a couple of reasons I’m not 100% sure I’m leaving the bulkhead out, so it leaves me the option and I don’t trust myself with a grinder inside the van

@@harrymain They are a bit tedious to make but there is a lot of tutorials on youtube to help ya and you can find fairly cheap fibre optic kits on amazon.

Easy mate just looked on ebay n ya can get a black headliner with red highlight stiching for 120 quid but only set back is ya need a original headliner to stick it to lol vids are much better went away for a while .got bored n un subscribed but liking the new content so another subscriber here .keep it coming bud
