This is great to hear! How do you like your red light panel? Do you use it for your skin? Also, what brand do you use for SAD? I was looking at buying both also? Ty for your reply…

@@theartgirl777Lumie is the brand he mentions in the video. He has the alarm clock but they also make SAD lamps! They all emit 10,000 lux.

Thank you for paying attention to the data. I have a portable one, but I am looking to purchase a floor standing model. I am really looking forward to watching more of your analysis. Not all light is the same, as you say.

I have just gotten a sad lamp from a sleep clinic . It’s so bright and my doctor didn’t tell me how far or how to use it. Thanks so much for this explanation, I also find it hard to wake up so I think I might think of getting a sunlight lamp

Measuring illuminance is complicated, but simply saying "10,000 lux" is a bit nonsensical unless they also say over what distance/surface area that is measuring, similar to how sound measured in DbA is always stated with a distance. The item you linked does specify 10klux at 10cm (presumably using the implicit surface area of 1m^2), which is a lot more than most of the cheaper ones on Amazon that simply state 10,000 lux with no other qualifier, and if measured would probably be at 1mm :D!

100% love this comment! The lighting industry have simplified this wayyy too much and often don’t share the distances and surface areas that are crucial in understanding whether they meet the clinically recognised threshold to treat SAD. Having said that, many historical studies assessing clinical benefit have also been guilty of just stating Lux without much more. It’s intuitively likely that there will be some benefit even below the studied threshold but when it comes to purchasing a light, people want to know they’re getting one that works! Really appreciate your comment, it’s a really important consideration!

Is it better to have 10000lux at 10cm or at 20cm?
@iwantagoodnameplease
@iwantagoodnameplease 21 күн бұрын
@@salttothesea if it's the same intensity measured further away then it's almost a square more powerful, so if "better" is stronger: 20cm

He didn't say which ones are good. I'm looking for one that gives the best light specifically for treating SAD The ones I find are adjustable, which means they can be set to not work properly

if you've got the space, it might be an easier way to get the light intensity you need without it having to be too close to your face.
