I used Pixelborn to test my physical decks out before I played them in Local LGS store events.

I'm hoping that Disney/Ravensburger releases their own licensed/Official Online Platform soon.
@6thface8 ай бұрын
They should have announced it at the same time, but that is Disney for you.

it will be awhile if anything

My thoughts on what happened here.... RB thought it was a positive for the game at the beginning and perhaps even now but Disney had to fight for their IP in this situation or they would lose other court cases going forward. I don't think they have any online plans. I'm not even sure they have the rights. I do think this will slow the game down. I don't think RB can even speak to the community on this matter. There would be legal ramifications. Kind of a nightmare... Overall, they used Pixelborn to grow the game until the legal team from Disney said action had to be taken.

I think the fact a tab appeared on TWICTH for LORCANA with all PixelBorn content and almost nobody playing the actual cards... made Disney eager to drop this NOW. Otherwise why not BEFORE the launch of series 4 ???

OP hit the nail on the head my dude. Sad but all of those things are the real issues here. RB is just gonna have to eat the bad community feels right now and hope that the game came continue to grow with a much smaller online footprint (I'm talking the loss of content creators here in addition to the actual loss of the client)

As a content creator who used Pixelborn for gameplay and deck profiles, it does hurt. I loved using Pixelborn because I could share deck profiles and gameplay without having to print proxies and either find someone to play with or use a webcam. I completely understand that Disney has a right to protect their IP, and I can see them shutting down Pixelborn either because they want people to play in person or because a possible online client is in the pipeline. But Pixelborn allowed people to play and try out decks before investing in them because legendaries still hold a reasonable price. I do not believe the death of Pixelborn will completely hurt the game, but it does hurt those people who have no way to play the game without getting on a webcam and either printing proxies or paying for the actual cards.

We will be on proxy cards and webcams, for sure.

I enjoy Pixelborn and it was a good alternative especially when supply was short in first two sets. Having said that, I understand why Disney did this. I also believe they will have their own online client but not all cards will be available for play like Pixelborn. Also, I feel the cash tournaments certainly did not help Pixelborn as they were making money off Disney IP.

Ravensburger probably asked them to wait a bit. Till the first couple challenge events were in the bag. But If you think Disney cares about anything going on with lorcana outside of "are they paying us our license fee" you're nuts. They shut down pixelborn cause it was an IP infringement and Disney ALWAYS shuts them down once there but enough for it to not be feasible for them not to be aware (in the legal sense).

Yeah this is a bummer. Frustrating blow to people using this as a resource to learn and grow their collections

Love ya buddy but I dunno about claiming an "I called this" on this situation. Like, everybody did. It was an obvious IP infection vs Disney. That said, it was an IP thing. It has nothing to do with ravensburger (or Disney) wanting to sell more cards (in the direct sense). It's an IP protection thing. They had to eventually object to it for legal reasons. Now that's not a good thing. It means that this wasn't a "we've got our own digital platform coming and we want you to buy it" situation. They're clearly not ready with one of their own. Not even close or they would have already announced it to try to calm the uproar. They'll need development time and, ya know, to negotiate/pay for a separate set of rights to release a digital game. Which they may not even want to do. They're not a video game company. Ultimately this was inevitable but is still a significant blow to the games visibility as it will remove most content creators who have been helping drive the hype for months. It's not a nail in a coffin but it is a real problem for a physical card game with an expensive license to maintain to lose any amount of online presence.

As imperfect this fanmade game was, it was amazing! I enjoyed it a lot to practice for my tournament last month! It WAS The best TCG card game online. Heartstone is the 2nd funniest one behind Lorcana through the fanmade client. Hopefully Disney capializes on it and had to ask before launching themselves to clear the way. And there are timeframes for this. Maybe a year? 14-16 months maybe before we see an online Lorcana official client?

I think this really hurts the game. Getting to test decks before buying is great . Getting it shut down before they have their own client is dumb.

Disney/Ravensburger should have hired him on to their company to assist them with an online server licensed by Disney/Ravensburger, similar to MTG Arena...

Disney is not in the habit of rewarded those who flagrantly copy their IP. It would encourage others to do the same, in hopes they too get a payout.
@therealsheldonjplankton8 ай бұрын
Yeah, I saw a lot of youtubers saying since the game is going offline they're going to stop buying the physical cards and stop playing the game all together. Boo hoo.
@mynameisgrundle81578 ай бұрын
Lol "boo hoo"? Yeah a bunch of content creators giving free advertising and driving hype for the game jumping to ship to go to other games. This is fine. No problem at all. You really got this situation nailed my dude.
Disney waited until they had established tournaments that will keep the die hard creators happy before pulling the PB plug. Am I happy? When is anyone happy with a money grab from corporate America? I will switch to Webcam and proxy cards, for sure. I may even slow down my purchase of new product. However, the few that will quit will be replaced by thousands wanting those huge tournament payouts.

I'm excited about it. It's definitely an advantage to deck builders in tournaments. No more KZbinrs announcing meta card decks from Pixelborn. I also think the cash tournaments did Pixelborn in. Was not a good idea. It went away from the purpose. Also, people who play Pixelborn are not buying products. Now, it forces players to buy cards.
@mynameisgrundle81578 ай бұрын
I love how many people think this is gonna work out for them at the big tournaments. The sharks are still gonna roll you, guy. Only difference now is you'll never see it coming cause their decks won't be all over the Internet for a month ahead of the event. Pixelborn helped level the playing field. The top players are still gonna have the top decks. It's the casuals that have lost a resource here.
@lerak84528 ай бұрын
@mynameisgrundle8157 Don't forget many people who won also tested on Pixelborn. Now that'll be gone. Have to test it in person now. That's why people like myself are excited. I don't play pixelborn. We actually have, in my opinion. He is one of the best players. You wouldn't know because he doesn't have the ability to get out to far tournaments, but locally, wow. He can put together decks and play. He also always helps other people.
