This beautiful skit was directed by the late Matt Villines. He died in 2016 aged 39 after a 2-year fight with cancer. It was originally aired in 2012 and SNL reuploaded it in 2016 as a tribute to him. The music in the background was done by Mark Maxwell.

The sincerity of this was a refreshing gear shift for an snl skit. Good to keep a comedy audience guessing. It was like a pitcher surprising u with a change-up. I think thats why it ended up really tugging at peoples heart strings. U weren't expecting it. Vulnerable and sentimental- It was very subtle in its humor yet still had the ability to feel like a gut punch to the sensibilities.

You been to times square? There are 50 of these characters dressed up and they scam tourists by getting their attention like this and then getting them to take photos with them.
