My grandma loves this song. When she was still healthy, she would tell me to stop my devil music (I'm a metalhead) and would tell me to play this song instead. When I roll this one on, I would always tell her how old her music taste was, teasing her to make her mad and I will laugh on it. She died last week and now I'm listening to this song alone but the feeling is different. This song used to make me bored but now it's making me cry. I miss my grandma. I can remember her old, croaky voice singing this while listening to this one. I'm glad that we used to jam on this one. She may have been gone, but at least she left me a piece of her heart that I can cherish throughout my lifetime that I can listen everytime I miss her. She's 85 years old.

This is the only song you ever memorized, you used to sing this song everytime you miss your children back in 1985. I can still remember how you shed tears while singing and I did not understand the lyrics because I was only a kid then . the last time you sing this song was 2 or 3 yrs before you died of breast cancer (2011) I miss you so much Auntie. Sad song, but beautiful and poetic. An ex of mine grew up hearing about this song, and one day, tried to describe it to me in the form of a "little story she knew." We were still in the process of feeling each other out, so every positive interaction counted. After a few lines of describing this "story," I stopped her, held her hand, look her in the eye, and said; "It's from a song, and it goes like this..." I proceeded to sing it, and she was amazed that I not only knew OF the song, but knew (virtually) every word. I'm a pretty horrible singer, but she was so stunned it didn't matter. I felt like that moment is what sparked a flame. This song was part of my father's collection that I recorded and kept over the years. I knew the words to every song on that cassette.
