I do saddle repair also, a couple of things to make string replacement easier for you. Use the right Phillips bit size for the screw head slot. A driver bit set for battery drills will give you several sizes. Chose the one that fits tight.

Yes very good point, as I did forget to mention that in my video... it does make a difference and easier as well as not stripping the screw and keeping all parts as original as possible. :) My drills are always battery and there are great sales on them a lot if someone does have one.. Mine came with 2 rechargeable batteries as well for $99.00

Hi Patti, Thank you so much for responding to my comment. So as you know, I bought a used saddle which has been recondition with saddle soap. A few of the saddle strings broke because they were just so dried out so I’m going to replace them. My saddle did have a hole in the ceiling which has a very poor patch job. Would you be able to make a video on how to properly patch a seat?

My saddle strings go through the tree. lol. Any tutorials on replacing these?

yeah, many of the saddle strings go through the tree. This was just in case somebody wanted to replace theirs without re-threading through the tree. I am getting some trees in for teaching so when I get them, I will definitely do a video for you on how to thread your saddle strings.

what kind of screw do I need? all the parts were lost on the trail. I need the screw. what do I need?

sorry for the delay, I was away for a bit. You can use any small screw that fits the hole or slightly bigger. I just use a little 3/4” Phillips head screw, but a flat head screw can work as well. If you have a concern the screw is a lil loose you can put a dab of wood glue on the screw if the tree is a wood tree, but be VERY CAREFUL putting any glue in any holes as you may get it stuck in there for good. never use super glue if at all possible, that can be irreversable

Drive a golf tee into a worn out hole, then snap off and use a new screw, some glue is ok as well.

Not going to work on my saddles. The saddle strings are attached to the tree away from the hole.

that is like many saddles. I just did one that took me 4 hours to replace after dying and conditioning. To get to those you have to go under the fleece, so if a saddle needs refleecing and I examine the saddle strings I suggest to the client to do both. There is a way to save the partial old saddle string and add new ones even if threaded and are just as secure.I have done it several times
