When transferring your tracing to the board, could you use a coloured pencil so you would easily know if you had missed transferring any lines of your drawing ?

Yeah that's a good idea. A red ball point pen works well, too.

Why not draw directly onto the canvas?

Thanks for your question! Yes for many techniques drawing directly on the canvas is useful. This however is the technique I use for Indirect Method, which I use to create very detailed realistic paintings. The preparatory drawing for this method must be very detailed and precise, so it's more useful to draw it on paper first and then transfer. The pencil she's using is "Staedtler Mars Lumograph". And I believe the eraser is "Tuff Stuff Eraser Stick" made by Papermate.
