"Sadistic & Grotesque": Noam Chomsky on How Israel Limits Food & Medicine in Occupied Gaza

www.democracynow.org - On Gaza, MIT Professor Noam Chomsky says the debate inside the Israeli government is whether to allow "bare survival" or to inflict "misery and starvation," as a former Israeli national security adviser recently proposed. “Israeli experts have calculated in detail exactly how many calories, literally, Gazans need to survive, and if you look at the sanctions that they impose, they’re grotesque,” Chomsky says. “I mean, even John Kerry condemned them bitterly, they’re sadistic - just enough calories to survive." Chomsky also addresses the widespread focus on the Hamas charter platform calling for the destruction of Israel. "The only people who pay attention to it are Israeli propagandists, who love it," Chomsky says. "It was a charter put together by a small group of people under siege, under attack in 1988. And it’s essentially meaningless. There are charters that mean something, but they’re not talked about. So, for example, the electoral program of Israel’s governing party, Likud, states explicitly that there can never be a Palestinian state west of the Jordan River… And they don’t only have it in their charter, you know, their electoral program, but they implement it."

to all critics of Professor Chomsky, watch all of his debates, he is always stating facts and the other person is always attacking him and calling him a liar. he welcoms all people who want to debate him and he always destroys them! you know why ? because he is right. you can scream all you want, but you cannot hide the truth. many has attempted to challenge his truth, and they all were destroyed in 5 mins when they ran out of "facts" and resorted to attacking him personally. so stop attacking him if you dont want to be completly blind, and start checking his facts and challenge them instead, if you really seeking truth!

Why doesn't Noam Chumpsky ever criticize Hamas and the Palestinian Authority? If he really cared about the Palestinians (and he doesn't), wouldn't he at least devote some time and energy focusing on Hamas and the Palestinian Authority (both of which truly oppress the Palestinians). Never a peep out of this alleged genius. His hatred of Israel is so obvious with his slanderous lies and ridiculous accusations. This guy really makes me sick.

Bc we do not fund Palestine. He has been very clear on this. He has condemned Hamas many times but since he is an American and pays taxes he believes it’s important to speak out on these matter more

@@tookie36 I don't believe that. Not even for one second. First, we do fund Palestine and Hamas so that is not really true at all. Second, Chomsky has been critical of many other countries that don't receive funding. And his critique of Hamas has been merely in passing remarks. He never lambasts Hamas in any of his books or writings. But he never tires of bashing Israel in both his talks and his writings. I think his bias against Israel is so over the top that it negates any legitimate criticism (if it even exists) he might have of Israel.

Actually, all of the countries in the Middle East have a far worse human rights record than Israel. To expand upon this, most countries on planet Earth have a far worse human rights records than Israel. Speaking of which, the USA also funds the Palestinian Authority and Hamas (both of which have abysmal human rights records). Nary a peep from Chomsky. Nope. These guys get a pass. So much for Chomsky's great equanimity and integrity. Nope. This sick little guy has a strange hatred for Israel and it surely shows.
